Charities We Support

At Greswold we support a number of national and local charities, in addition to taking part in national fund raising campaigns like Children in Need or Sports Relief. We are always very grateful to our families for their generous donations which we pass on to the charities. The Educaid charity is very special to our school. Our former headteacher Mr Carnell and former deputy headteacher Mrs Robson are both trustees of the this charity that supports the education of children in Kenya.

EducAid Africa Sponsored Walk 19th May 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

EducAid Africa is a small charity dedicated to improving the educational opportunities for young people in a poor rural area of Kenya, not far from Mombasa. It is a charity close to Greswold’s heart and in the past we have sponsored children and our staff have been out to visit the schools. Ian Carnell, a previous head of Greswold is Chairman of the Trustees. This small charity is run by volunteers in the UK so that all the money donated to them is sent out to Kenya, where their trusted contacts ensure it is spent where it is needed.

Several years ago, Greswold raised money to buy a water tank which gave a small village fresh water for the first time ever. As a school, we have also bought books and helped build classrooms for a primary school.

From the charity’s last visit, it was apparent that the nursery and primary schools have a great need for new books and sports equipment and, with a new curriculum pending, the junior/secondary school needs subject specific items.  Staff can buy them in Kenya but require the funds with which to purchase them.   The secondary students also now need more uniforms and items such as laptops. With your help, we can support the purchase of these basic resources to support their educational experience.

If you would like to find out more about the charity, please visit the website: https://www.educaid-africa.org/

On Friday 19th May, children will be taking part in a sponsored walk around the school field to raise money for Educaid Africa. Children are welcome to dress in the colours of the Kenyan flag (red, black and green) or African animal prints.  There will be activities to complete on the way round and the children can challenge themselves to do laps in different ways: running, skipping, hopping or even 3-legged to add to the fun.

Your child will be coming home with a sponsorship form to complete. Please help your child to help the children and schools in Mombaso by sponsoring their involvement in this fun whole school event. Please send all sponsorship money (cash only) in a named envelope and give to your child’s class teacher.

Many thanks,

Mrs Foster and Greswold School Council
