Phonics - ch

ch can be pronounced differently in different words. It makes a 'ch' sound in words like church. It makes a short 'k' sound in words like chemist and it makes a 'sh' sound in words like chef.

ou can be pronounced differently in different words. It makes a 'u' sound in words like could. It makes a short 'o' sound in words like mould. It makes an 'ow' sound in words like proud and it makes an 'oo' sound in words like you.

PE - Gymnastics (Different ways of travelling)

Make sure you are in a large, safe space for this lesson.

Start by playing a game of musical statues: 

When the music is on, use some of the different ways of travelling around the space (e.g. jumping, hopping, skipping, crawling etc...)

When the music stops freeze in a shape (can you use any of the shapes you have learnt in gymnastics this half term?)

PSD/ Jigsaw

Our Jigsaw theme this half term is 'Dreams and goals'. We would like you to think of a personal lockdown challenge (Something you want to improve on or learn over the next 4 weeks. Remember this does not need to be linked to a school subject). Write down your goal and any steps you think you need to take in order to achieve it. Then spend 30 minutes practising/ working towards your goal.

If you are struggling for ideas, there are some suggestions below (but it would be nice if you could think of something personal to you!)

- Learn to skip with a skipping rope

- Learn to count to 20 in a foreign language

- Learn to recite a poem (without the words)

- Learn a dance or gymnastics routine

- Learn how to cook/bake a recipe

- Complete a 1000 piece jigsaw

- Learn how to make your bed

Phonics - Recap of ch, ou and ai

This week in Phonics we have been looking at alternative pronunciations for the 'ch' and 'ou' graphemes and different spellings for the 'ai' phoneme.

If you are finding any of these pronunciations tricky you could watch the video lessons from this week again.

 

Please practise spelling the words below. You may want to use the 'Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check' worksheet. Once you have spent some time practising the words you could get someone at home to test you on them.
