Weekly Timetable

Phonics - Spelling words ending -dge

This week the focus is on making the /j/ sound in different ways. The rules are below:

The letter j is never used for the /dz/ sound at the end of a word.
Straight after a short vowel it is spelt ‘dge’ e.g. fudge.
After all other sounds it is spelt –ge at the end of a word e.g. village.
It is often as g before e, i and y e.g. age.
The sound is always spelt as j before a, i and o e.g. jog.
