We are delighted to welcome you to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Greswold. This is where our youngest learners begin their exciting journey, developing a love of learning in a nurturing, stimulating and supportive environment.
In Early Years at Greswold, we provide a safe, happy and inclusive setting where every child is valued and encouraged to thrive. We recognise that each child is unique, and we work closely with families to ensure the very best start to their school life.
Quality interactions are at the heart of everything we do. Our skilled staff carefully support, extend and challenge children’s thinking through meaningful conversations, ensuring that every learning moment is purposeful and enriching.
Play is central to our provision. Through both structured and child-initiated play, children explore, investigate and make sense of the world around them. This enables them to develop confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning.
Our Early Years curriculum is thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity and develop key skills through a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated learning. Our learning is rooted in high-quality texts, which provide a rich context for language development, imagination and understanding of the world.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, ensuring children build strong foundations for future success.
Prime Areas are the key building blocks for learning and development:
Specific Areas build on the prime areas and broaden children’s knowledge and skills:
Play is a vital part of how children learn in Early Years. It allows them to explore their interests, test their ideas and develop key skills in a meaningful and engaging way.
Our adults carefully observe and interact with children during play, enhancing learning by asking questions, introducing new vocabulary and modelling ideas. Through play, children develop creativity, resilience, problem-solving skills and confidence.
We provide a well-planned and stimulating learning environment both indoors and outdoors. Our continuous provision offers a wide range of opportunities for children to explore areas such as role play, construction, creative arts, reading and investigation.
Our outdoor area is an extension of the classroom and is used daily, enabling children to be active, curious and engaged with the natural world. We encourage independence, allowing children to access resources and make choices about their learning.
Developing strong communication and language skills is a key priority in our Early Years provision. Through high-quality interactions, storytelling, singing and sharing texts, we create a language-rich environment where children can flourish.
Our use of carefully chosen key texts helps to build vocabulary, comprehension and a love of stories, forming a strong foundation for future learning.
The Early Years Team make use of the Tapestry learning journal to record your child's progress here at Greswold and to communicate with parents. Click here for a useful guide for parents or click here to log in using the details you have been sent home by the School Office.
