Spelling
 

This week, we looking at adding suffixes to words. Watch the video below to find out what a suffix is. 

This week, we are focusing on words that need you to double the consonant before adding the suffix. Work your way through the PowerPoint to learn the rule and have a go at the challenges throughout.

English - Writing Questions 

Today, we are focusing on writing questions, as you often find questions in a non-fiction text. 

Work you way through the PowerPoint below and then complete the Mild, Spicy or Hot activity. Complete on a lined piece of paper.

If possible, go outside and have a run around to make sure you are keeping up with your daily exercise. 

Then, have a go at practising your underarm and overarm throws from last week's PE lesson. 

 

Library 

Usually, we go to the library on a Wednesday afternoon. Spend some time snuggling up on a chair, reading a book of your choice!

Spellings - Doubling the consonant 

Today you are going to be adding the suffixes -ing and -ed.
The sentences below each contain a word without a suffix.

Rewrite the sentence so a suffix has been added to the root word, but make sure the sentence makes sense. 
Remember the rule for doubling the consonant. 
1. One syllable (hop, skip, chop)
2. One vowel (a, e, i, o, u) then one consonant (all the other letters in the alphabet)

 

Example: The woman pet the cat.
The woman petted the cat.

 
1. My brother cried when he pop his balloon.
2. Dad and I went shop after school.
3. The wind slam the door closed.
4. My new jumper fit me perfectly.
5. Carefully,  I chop the vegetables.

Today you are going to learn about the artist Ted Harrison and create a piece of artwork inspired by his paintings. 

 

You will need some plain paper and some coloured pencils, felts or crayons to complete this lesson. There are also some helper sheets below that you can print to use.
