  • Greswold leading the way in recycling

    Thu 21 Jul 2022

As you may well gather, this time of year in school, there's a great deal of sorting out to do, especially if teachers are moving classrooms.  Here at Greswold though, we ensure that we don't just randomly throw things away.  Every class has a recycling box for paper and card, the staffroom contains recycling for card, plastic, glass and tins and there are a host of other sustainable initiatives that the school has in place.

You may have noticed school has accumulated al lot of second-hand school uniform which it sold at the recent summer fayre or distributed to families.  The uniform that is still left (7 bags!) will be taken, by teachers, to various charity shops around Solihull so not to be wasted.

Felt tip pens are other items which can easily be tossed away with general waste but here at Greswold, we have recycling stations to store used pens which can then be recycled properly.  Look out for one such station in the entrance foyer!

Milk carton tops are currently being saved by all members of our school community.  These will in turn be used to help fund another school defibrillator, a wonderful and useful way to recycle things people might sometimes take for granted!  Again, there is another collection station for these outside the school office.

Finally, any story or non-fiction books which are no longer needed are earmarked for other children across the world.  We fund the postage of used books (£8 per 20kg) to Africa in partnership with Books2Africa charity.  The following link provides information about the charity:

However Greswold is always looking for other ways to become even more sustainable and would be happy to hear from members of our school community with ideas and initiatives of their own to help us.

  • National Geographic helping to develop the reading of year 3 pupils!

    Mon 18 Jul 2022

This year, Greswold have been working in partnership with National Geographic to help develop children's reading in year 3.  Five identified pupils were each given a whole year's free subscription to National Geographic Kids with each child receiving an issue each month.  The school itself received an issue for its library.  Another example of Greswold sourcing expertise to support and enhance our curriculum further!

  • House Trophy winners for 2021-22 revealed!

  • Brodie shines for Solihull Moors!

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

At Greswold, we always like to hear about our pupils' successes out of school too and one particular child in year 6, who has endured some challenging times over the past couple of years, definitely has something to celebrate and be proud of.

Brodie from Maples in year 6 originally signed to play for Solihull Moors Under 11's for this season and has now signed for Solihull Moors U12's for next season 22-23 where she will continue playing in the position of centre forward.

Each of the girls in the team were awarded a trophy for completing the season and for their excellent contributions. There were 5 additional special trophies and Brodie was recognised as being “Most Improved Player” of the season.

Her family as well as Greswold are so proud of Brodie’s achievements so far and the potential she shows is very exciting. She’s possesses a brilliant attitude and works hard both in training and during the matches. She’s also made new friends and the whole team support one another which is fantastic.

Well done Brodie.  You're a real role model to us all!

  • Wonderful Nursery Sports' marks end to fabulous Sports' Day season at Greswold!

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

This week has seen the pupils in Nursery participate in their Sports' Day.  Not only were there numerous examples of sportsmanship and encouragement being shown by the pupils but really impressive running, scooting, hurdling and balancing skills too......and not just from the pupils!  The parents had a race as well!  Thank you to all the pupils, staff and parents for making the two events  very memorable occasions.

  • Very positive feedback from yesterday's successful Open Afternoon

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

We welcomed over 320 different families to school afternoon at our Open afternoon, a chance for pupils to share their books, work and progress with their parents.  It was a lovely atmosphere and something which was really appreciated by lots of our families for which many gave us some lovely feedback.  Again, it was a wonderful opportunity (after the Jubilee gallery and picnic, Sports' Days and Summer Fayre) to invite parents back onto site and bring our whole school community together again.  Thank you to everyone who participated.

  • A well deserved treat from our community!

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

The day after their memorable production, our year 6 pupils were treated to a free ice cream after lunch, a gift from Danny, head of ABC agency, a company Greswold have been working in partnership with for several years.  Both the pupils and the staff were very thankful for the kind and thoughtful gesture.  Thank you Danny.

  • 'A Big Leap' for year 6 and they definitely rose to the challenge!

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

On Wednesday evening at Bushell Hall, Solihull School, year 6 pupils gave an audience of over 300 people an absolute memorable treat with a breath-taking performance of 'The Big Leap' based on High School Musical.  The performances from each and every pupil were outstanding and a credit to their families and the staff who have supported them during their time at Greswold.  They also wonderfully demonstrated the ethos, values and belonging of our Greswold community.

Thank you children for a night to remember!

Below are just a few comments sent in by parents afterwards:

'Thank you so much to everyone who made tonight possible. It was such a delight to see the children shine so brightly. We are super proud of ***** who in year 1 would barely go on the stage to year 6 singing a solo. She’s come such a long way and we couldn’t be more grateful to the support the school has given her over the years.'

'We just wanted to say thank you and well done on the Y6 show last night - it was fantastic to see all of Y6 on stage together. Brilliant! Please pass on heartfelt thanks to all those staff involved in making this happen.  As we left Mr Hornsey asked us, jokingly, where ***** gets his confidence from - mum or dad? I think the answer is from Greswold and all his experiences with you all over the years. Thank you so much for making ****** time at primary school so happy and for giving him the opportunity to find and develop his own strengths.'

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

Yesterday, Miss Ceillam and the rest of the staff received confirmation from the Skills Builder Partnership team that we had achieved a Silver award for our achievements this year.  Parents will have become more familiar with our Skills Builder initiative due to the activity course set up by Miss Ceillam at the recent PTA Summer Fayre.  Everyone is incredibly proud of our achievements and of the hard work the children have put in as well.  Below is a message from the Skills Builder team:
