  • Showcasing Design and Technology at Greswold!

    Mon 24 Jul 2023

Following on from a previous Latest News story back in autumn, check out some updated photos below of Design and Technology learning across the school.

The learning gained from these experiences has been so valuable and has helped children to adopt roles such as architects, designers, engineers and chefs.

Throughout their time at Greswold, children will experience food technology, learning around structures, mechanisms and electrical systems along with textiles and controlling products using computing.

  • St Patrick's crowned House Point champions!

    Mon 24 Jul 2023

Congratulations to all the pupils from St Patrick's who were today crowned champions of the 2022-23 Greswold House Point competition.  St George's took second place overtaking St David's in the final term by just a single point and St Andrew's were 4th despite winning the year 6 House sports' competition earlier this month.

The House Point assembly was also an opportunity to congratulate swimming passers, 100% attendance pupils, the best attended class of 22-23 and the class with the highest engagement in the Travel Tracker.  We also celebrated the success of five pupils who all achieved unique success in various out of school activities.

Thank you to the children for all their wonderful efforts.

  • Attendance Awards

    Mon 24 Jul 2023

As well as celebrating the classes with the best attendance for the year, we are also celebrating individual pupils who achieved the school target of 97% attendance and above. We are delighted to say that 265 pupils have been awarded their special certificates and that 20 of those children managed 100% attendance!

We also received a letter from the Secretary of State for Education highlighting the importance of attendance (see below). At Greswold, we want to work with families to improve our attendance as we know that good attendance leads to improved outcomes for children. We look forward to a positive start in September and hope that we can celebrate even more success next year.

Letter to schools: supporting strong attendance from the first day of term

I am writing to thank you for your continued hard work and dedication in supporting strong attendance and ensuring that children and young people across mainstream schools, special schools and alternative provision receive an excellent education.

Because of your efforts, we have begun to turn the tide on one of the biggest challenges that COVID-19 has posed to the education system. Over 350,000 fewer pupils were persistently absent in Spring 2023 compared to Summer 2022.

But there is more to do, with absence rates still well above pre-Covid levels. Improving attendance is a top priority for me and the Department. The steps we take now will be critical to the start of the next academic year. I want to ensure that as many children as possible in mainstream and specialist settings are present from day one.

Those first days back really matter.

  • Y5 Oaks top of the pile when it comes to attendance this year!

    Mon 24 Jul 2023

Well done to Y5 Oaks who achieved the best attendance throughout the year of the whole school with an average of 96.8%.  Thank you children for all of your commitment.  Well done also to Y2 Badgers who achieved the best attendance of all the classes in KS1 and Early Years' with 95.3%.

Our whole school aim for next year once again will be to reach 97%.  This year's average whole school attendance was 94.4% so definitely a challenge for everyone to bridge that gap in 23-24.

  • Celebrating the unique personal achievements of our Greswold pupils

    Mon 24 Jul 2023

Today's House Point assembly was a chance to celebrate the unique achievements of several of our pupils out of school.  These included:

    • Ezra in Year 5 being one of the 50 winners of a story writing competition to have his entry published in a book by Chelsea FC.

    • William in Year 4 appearing in The Nativity Musical at the Birmingham Rep Theatre over the Christmas period.

    • Evie-Bella in Year 5 representing England at the Dance World Cup in Braga and winning team gold along with a whole host of other individual medals too!

    • Florence in Year 6 demonstrating her amazing hobby of water skiing so effortlessly!

    • Sam in Year 6 competing at various national tennis championships and classics usually against players several years older than him!

It's wonderful to hear about these fantastic achievements and even better to show them to the rest of the school, perfect role models and inspirations to other children and adults everywhere! Well done children.

  • Greswold staff again showing the importance of lifelong learning!

    Mon 24 Jul 2023

In today's House Point assembly, we celebrated learning and the success gained from it from a range of activities undertaken by children out of school, whilst also remembering that our learning journey never stops.  With this in mind, the children were shown certificates and accomplishments made by school staff this year.

These successes have included staff passing various training courses, achieving accreditations from programmes they'd completed, learning new skills and pushing themselves to accomplish things not tried before.

  • A well deserved post production treat for Y6!

    Fri 21 Jul 2023

After their 'Darwin Rocks' performance exertions on Tuesday, Y6 pupils were treated to a visit from an Ice Cream van courtesy of ABC Teachers, one of our supply teaching agency partners.

Of course, it had to rain!  However, this didn't deter the children from enjoying their treats with their friends, classmates and teachers.

  • Congratulations to Mrs Bibi...the glue that holds us all together!

    Fri 21 Jul 2023

A wonderful sporting year at Greswold can only be achieved through the hard work and commitment of absolutely everyone involved.  One of those many individuals who create that wonderful team ethic is Mrs Bibi, who this week, has been deservedly awarded with a School Games Advocate Award, a prestigious awarded given to those unsung heroes to help to give the pupils the opportunities they experience and deserve on a weekly basis.

Mr Bibi's vital role involves ensuring the logistics that go with every sporting event are in place so, first and foremost, the children are safe.  This includes arranging transport, ensuring the right number of adults are attending for pupil/adult ratios and that the venues are sufficiently safe through the use of risk assessments.

Please view the photo gallery for the official reason for Mrs Bibi's award as it's truly inspiring.
