  • A very close race heading into the summer term!

    Fri 22 Mar 2024

After today's House Point and Star Pupil assembly, St George's are still in front but only just!  Well done to St Andrew's who accumulated the most points this half term and well done to all the other pupils who received certificates today.

These included Star Pupil certificates, House Point certificates and Star Reader certificates (Children who have read a million words!).

Next term's value focus will be Independence and the children were introduced to the value's new slogan, 'Your choices make you, YOU!'

  • County Champions for the second successive year!

    Fri 22 Mar 2024

Yesterday, the Greswold Sportshall Athletics team took part in the School Games Level 3 Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire County Finals at North Solihull Sports' Centre.

The event was the culmination of a very competitive competition which spanned a qualifying event (against 10 schools) followed by an South Solihull Area Final (8 schools) which Greswold won to earn their place at the regional event.  In total, nearly 200 schools will have taken part in the regional competition.

On the day, the competition was immense with area finalists competing from North Solihull, and regions in Coventry and Warwickshire.

The team themselves dealt incredibly well with a couple of team absences, with their replacements stepping in and performing admirably.

In the end, the children's commitment, their eagerness to train and their teamwork meant that, once again, Greswold pipped everyone to the title of county champions.  They overcame every challenge, supported each other and won a combined 7 track events out of a possible 12 which also matched their amazing performance in the field events too.

Everyone at Greswold are immensely proud of their achievements this year, with their success being celebrated in this morning's assembly, a perfect way to role model what can be achieved using our Greswold values.

    Final results:

1st: Greswold (South Solihull) 252 pts

    2nd: Stivichall (Coventry West) 234

  • The football season isn't over yet after all! Congratulations to the boys for reaching the Play-Offs!

    Wed 20 Mar 2024

Greswold today received confirmation that the boys' school football team placed 1st in their Large/Medium Schools' football league.  Even though the league 3 standings (below) show Greswold in second with the same results as Tidbury Green, our goal difference of +10 was better, meaning we now go through to the Play-off finals against St Alphege, Knowle and Dorridge on Thursday 21st March at Solihull Moors. This mini-tournament will determine the best Large/Medium school in South Solihull.

In the semi-final, Greswold will face St Alphege school.

A wonderful achievement for the team, who started the season tentatively but ended with three consecutive wins.  Onto the finals and fingers crossed!

  • Y6 pupils perform at world famous Cavern Club in Liverpool!

    Wed 20 Mar 2024

Yesterday, Isla, Ciara and Eva from Year 6, were invited to play at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in a performance organised by Solihull Music Service.

They played four songs with guitarists from other schools: Insomnia, Houdini, Angel of Mine and Lady Madonna.

Isla said: 'The best bit about my day was being able to watch other schools perform and writing our names on the wall!'

What an exciting opportunity! We're incredibly proud of all three of!

  • 'The time is now', another fabulous Science experience for the whole school to enjoy!

    Tue 19 Mar 2024

This year's Science Week theme here at Greswold was 'The time is now' and on Thursday 14th March, every class in the school changed their timetables to focus solely on Science.  However, it enabled the children to see how curriculum subjects are all very much intertwined and connected too.

We were very lucky to welcome representatives from National Grid who helped us to deliver the week's theme and to share with the children their current work around the Great Grid Upgrade which is increasing the amount of renewable energy people have access to.

Activities included an assembly with National Grid, recruiting engineers, creating a time machine and looking at electricity use over time.

Thank you to Mrs Mills for planning such an engaging and informative theme day and for all of the staff for making it such an immersive experience.

  • Greswold pupils help to showcase our Maths talent at annual KES competition!

    Tue 19 Mar 2024

Greswold once again took part in King Edward's School's annual Maths competition this month.  Mr Hobday accompanied two teams, from year 4 and year 5 to take part in a competitive challenge which involved a whole host of schools across the region.

Well done to all the children involved and thank you to Mr Hobday for again organising such a wonderful opportunity for our confident mathematicians.  An extra well done to the year 5 team who came second overall on the day, a wonderful achievement.

  • An informative and entertaining treat from Year 5!

    Tue 19 Mar 2024

Over the past few days, the pupils, staff and parent community have all been treated to a wonderful performance from year 5, showcasing their learning over the spring term.

The focus of the performance was the Victorian Era, the children's current History topic.  Coupled with Dance and Music, the staff and children put together a memorable show, full of interesting facts, entertaining dances, authentic costumes, inspiring songs and engaging acting!

It was a perfect example of Greswold's ambition to provide extra purpose to the children's learning and a different context for allowing them to retain all of the skills and knowledge they've encountered during the term.

Well done children, you're a credit to your teachers, Greswold and your parents.  A fabulous idea and performance!

  • The Great British Spring Clean - Greswold helping their local community!

    Tue 19 Mar 2024

The wet and the drizzle couldn't stop Greswold pupils helping out their local community today.

Greswold's Eco Action Group took part in 'The Great British Spring Clean' this morning by litter picking along Buryfield Road and in Coldlands Wood. They worked really hard as a team to collect a whole bag of litter.

Most of the litter we found was actually outside the front of school, near the vehicle and pedestrian entrances, therefore we'd like to remind all parents and children to be careful not to drop litter on the way to and from school.

We would also like to encourage families to get involved with community litter picking around Solihull and take part in 'The Great British Spring Clean', which continues until the 31st March, over the holidays. More information can be found on the following websites:

  • The PTA School Disco makes a memorable return......thanks to Mr Chater!

    Mon 18 Mar 2024

Friday evening marked the return of the much anticipated PTA Discos and what a memorable evening it was too!  A massive thank you to Mr Chater, our resident DJ who put together two wonderfully entertaining discos, firstly for years' 1-3 followed by years' 4-6.  Nearly 120 pupils attended each and everyone had a wonderful time, adorned with glow sticks and smiling faces.

Thank you to the PTA members who attended helping to serve much needed refreshments and a special thank you to the members of school staff who stopped after school to help out, mingle with the children and even bust some moves themselves!

    A great evening!
