Two pupils from Year 6 represented Greswold in a Panathlon Challenge at Langley Secondary School. The children tried a number of different sports including polybat and boccia blast. Well done to the two boys who received a medal and did a brilliant job at participating in all the events.
Miss Nock took a team of Year 6 pupils to a tag rugby tournament at Birmingham Exiles. It was a warm day for the competition and the team played brilliantly well against other local schools. Our team ended up placed 4th out of 10 teams. Well done. One of the team was also recognised for the way he played and received a special award. A brilliant success.
To celebrate the recent royal wedding, Greswold had its own special picnic lunch for the children to enjoy. There was a choice of sandwiches, including the traditional filling of cucumber. For pudding the children could choose either jelly or Union Jack sponge. Very patriotic. Thanks to Mrs Card and her team in the kitchen for making it a special occasion.
Children from Year 2 stepped back in time when they visited the National Trust Back-to-Backs in Birmingham. After getting dressed up into traditional Victorian clothes, the children found out how to light a coal fire using paper and kindling. They then got to explore the different rooms in the houses and see how different life was in the 1800s compared to today. There certainly were far fewer luxuries back then and the toilets left a lot to be desired. Many thanks to the volunteers at the Back-to-Backs and to the parents who came along to help the group.
Today we launched our first Greswold lunchtime concert in the hall to further improve the atmosphere at lunchtimes. Y2 were treated to keyboard and violin pieces by three talented musicians from Y4 while they enjoyed the delicious food served by the catering team.
After being awarded the MBE in the New Year's Honours List, Mr Carnell has visited Buckingham Palace to collect the honour for services to education. Our former headteacher popped back into Greswold to show the children his medal and a video of him receiving the award from Prince William. We now have two former staff with MBEs (Mr Carnell and Mr King) and feel they are rightly deserved.
