  • Easter egg competition

    Fri 27 Mar 2015
This year's egg decorating competition had record number of entries. The children, staff and visitors have enjoyed looking at all the creative designs. Mr Gooch had a difficult job deciding a winner but after much deliberation managed to pick one boy and one girl from each year group. The lucky winners were awarded an Easter egg as a prize. Thanks to the PTA for providing the prizes and to everyone who took part.

Having been running the school bank every Friday for this term, today was our current team's last day. The children were presented certificates to thank them for their contributions to the bank and they also drew the special prize draw for our savers in assembly. A new team will be taking over when our school bank reopens at the start of the Summer term.
  • House Point Assembly - Spring 2

    Fri 27 Mar 2015
The house captains from St. Patrick's led their house point assembly on the theme of Easter. The children had prepared some history about the traditions associated with this time of year including the origins of hot cross buns. Mrs Robson also revealed the house who had won the competition for this half term and it was St. Patrick's. Well done to everyone in St. Patrick's house. The next house point assembly will be at the end of the next half term.
  • A musical treat to end the term

    Thu 26 Mar 2015

Greswold's school band made their debut performance in a special assembly to show what they have been working on for the past few months. The band, led by Mrs Donohoe, includes strings, brass, percussion and guitars in addition to the vocalists. They performed two songs including Count on Me by Bruno Mars, a video of which is available here.

Also performing in the assembly were the pupils who have been learning to play the drums with Mr Collier. They had chosen which song they wanted to perform and the audience certainly enjoyed the selection. A compilation video is available here.

  • Greswold enjoys the solar eclipse

    Fri 20 Mar 2015
It's not often we get to experience a solar eclipse. Today we had a special assembly to celebrate the event. Our former head of Governors, Mrs Pickard, explained to the pupils why the event occurs. We also watched the event live via a webcam on our playground and via the BBC Stargazing Live website. The children experienced the way the day suddenly became dusk-like, however the birds didn't stop singing (which is what they were supposed to do). It will be 2026 when the next eclipse like this occurs in the UK.
  • Year 5 visit St Alphege Church

    Tue 17 Mar 2015
Children from Year 5 walked to St Alphege Church to find out more about the Easter story. The pupils visited five stations to hear different parts of the story and completed a different activity at each. Many thanks to Linda and her team for making us so welcome.

    Thu 12 Mar 2015
To help our pupils say 'thank you' to their mums, Greswold's PTA organised a special store. Children who visited were able to select a gift to present on Mother's Day. Thank you to the PTA for organising this event.
  • Year 3 visit to Cadbury World

    Tue 10 Mar 2015

Year 3 have been learning all about rain forest environments this past term. To bring their learning to life they investigated a popular export from rainforest regions at Cadbury World in Birmingham. Of course finding out about chocolate was very popular with the children. They found out how the cocoa beans are harvested in countries such as Brazil and enjoyed a talk about rainforests. The children visited the 4D cinema then had a tour of the factory to see how the bars are produced. There was also a chance to pop to the shop to buy some chocolate. Thank you to the parents who accompanied Year 3 on the visit. There are more pictures available in the Cadbury World Gallery (Extranet password required).

  • World Book Day 2015

    Fri 06 Mar 2015

Greswold celebrated World Book 2015 in style. All our pupils (and staff) came into school dressed up as characters from books. Some of our governors also joined us to take part in the event. The day started with Mrs Scott leading a whole-school assembly which was a chance to see each others' costumes. Mrs Scott also shared some of her favourite books which included Hairy Maclary, Northern Lights and Charlie Brown's Fifth Super Book of Questions and Answers.

Our older pupils visited our younger pupils read to them. It was great to see the Key Stage 2 pupils acting as role models and sharing books with children in FKS and KS1.

Miss Whiting had also organised a book exchange. Children bought in books they had read and swapped them for another book to enjoy. Thanks to the PTA for helping to support this event.

During the day the children completed different book-related activities. Each year group had different activities planned to make the day special. At the end of the day the children were given a £1 voucher which can be used to buy one of the special World Book Day books or to get £1 off a book at participating book shops.

  • Sainsbury's Active Kids is back...

    Thu 05 Mar 2015
Greswold is currently collecting Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers. In previous years we have used these vouchers for sports equipment and cooking utensils. If you have any of these vouchers (or have friends or family who can collect them) we would be very grateful to receive them. Please send them into school with your child. Thank you.
