  • Year 4 have a 'Terrific Time' on Tudor Day!

    Thu 29 Jun 2023

Year 4 had a fanastic time learning more about the Tudors today.  We re-enacted the Battle of Bosworth, dug deep for archaeological treasures, looked at and tried on amazing artefacts, fired at targets in archery, discovered facts about the Tudor Economy and got to know more about all the Tudor Kings and Queens.  Well done, Year 4 and we hope you enjoyed yourselves!

  • Y5 Greswold Maths Team crowned champions of KES competition!

    Thu 29 Jun 2023

Wonderful news from yesterday.  Our year 5 Maths team who again entered this year's King Edward's School Maths competition, an annual invitation to schools across Birmingham and Solihull, and made it to the final, ran out eventual winners for the second year in a row!

What a wonderful accomplishment and a clear indication of how wonderfully well the children achieve in Maths across the Greswold community.  Well done children and than you to Mr Hobday for supporting the children.

  • West Midlands Police visit school to offer welcome support to Y6 with their transition to secondary

    Mon 26 Jun 2023

Y6 were very lucky this morning to meet with PC Birch from the Youth Intervention Team. He delivered a presentation to the children about transition to secondary, the importance of their uniform, taking care on social media and respect. He also talked about the 'right to say no' and the importance of this, discussing the potential consequence of actions.

PC Birch will be supporting their transition to their respective secondary schools within Solihull so it has been helpful and insightful for them to meet a friendly face ready for September!

  • A wonderful event bringing our whole school community together!

    Mon 26 Jun 2023

A huge thank you to the marvellous Greswold PTA and all of the staff, pupils and families who attended Friday's PTA Social evening; it really was a lovely way of bringing our community together.

From refreshments, BBQ food and face painting to the wonderful circus skills, archery and all the other activities to take part in, everyone contributed in making it a memorable event for the Greswold family.

Staff received a lot of positive feedback from families and we look forward to repeating the event in September, as a prelude to next year's impressive array of PTA events.

  • Year 3 show appreciation of an author's writing!

    Fri 23 Jun 2023

Year 3 pupils were given the opportunity to provide feedback on a very special story that was read to them yesterday.  One of our wonderful volunteers, who regularly reads with year 3 pupils on a 1:1 basis during the week, read the children a story written by her about her own guide dog called Buzz.

Year 3 teachers were blown away by the incredibly thoughtful and kind messages the children responded with Every child was extremely complimentary and understood how important it is to have a guide dog to help children and adults who are visually impaired.

Well done children and a very special thank you to Mrs Manning for not only working with the children in her own time but for providing such a wonderful opportunity for the children to meet an actual children's author too!

On the subject of volunteers, Greswold are always on the look out for volunteers to help with reading at school so if you have some spare time and don't mind us carrying out a DBS check, share your interest with your child's class teacher or email the school office.

  • 3rd place finish at Borough Sports', Greswold best performance for many years!

    Thu 22 Jun 2023

Today's Borough Sports' competition, an outdoor athletics event at Norman Green Track at Tudor Grange Sports' Centre, attracted over 20 schools this year, with Greswold being grouped with 7 other large schools.

Each competitor had to participate in a throwing event (Javelin or Shot Putt), jumping event (Standing Triple Jump or running Long Jump) and a running event (75m sprint or 600m) with 8 other pupils making up the final event of the 300m relay.

Despite a heavy 30 minute downpour, the Greswold team, consisting of 12 Y6 boys and 12 Y6 girls, competed admirably against some very tough opposition.

These were some of the stand out Greswold performances during the day:

Silver medal in Boys' Long Jump

Gold medal in Boys' Shot Putt

Bronze medal in Boys' Long Jump

    Bronze medal in Boys' 600m

Gold medal in Boys' Standing Long Jump

Gold medal in Girls' 75m sprint

Silver medal in Boys' 4x75m relay

Bronze medal in Girls' 4x75m relay

Greswold took 3rd place in the final standings, the school's best performance in the event for over ten years.  Final positions as follows:

    1st - Solihull School

    2nd - Dorridge

    3rd - Greswold

    4th - Monkspath

    5th - Sharman's Cross

    6th - Shirley Heath

    7th - Balsall Common

    8th - Olton Primary

Special thanks to Miss Bragg and Mrs Mills for accompanying the children as well as marshalling an event.  A wonderful day out for everyone!

  • Skills Builder Challenge

    Tue 20 Jun 2023

Next week all classes will be completing a series of challenges centred around “Future Transport”.  The challenges will take a day to complete and depending on the age of the children, activities may include researching and identifying problems that existing transport may experience in the future, looking at how to be eco-friendly when creating their transport and then pitching and marketing the finished product.

We are looking forward to seeing some great designs and hope the children have an exciting challenge day.

  • More sporting success for Year 6....silver medals at the annual Rounders competition!

    Fri 16 Jun 2023

A huge congratulations to the Y6 Rounders team, who took part in a tournament last night with 20 other schools from Solihull at Lode Heath Secondary School.

In the first round, they won all their games with absolute ease!

They were faced with Oak Cottage in the semi-final, where they won 3 and a half to 2 and a half and sailed through to the final. In the final, the opponent was Solihull School, who unfortunately did beat us, but only just! They were the toughest competition the team had come up against by far.

Our Greswold  team played incredibly well throughout and showed all of Greswold’s values in supporting each other, staying positive and working as an exceptional team. Mrs Foster couldn't have been more proud of them and she is ecstatic that we came home with silver medals.

Thank you for all of your hard work in training sessions at lunch and giving up an evening last night to compete.

    Well done to everyone involved

  • Our PTA is the envy of Solihull! Check out why.......

    Thu 15 Jun 2023

As we approach a very busy time for the Greswold PTA, this is a chance to celebrate the numerous curriculum enhancements that their fundraising has helped to purchase.

Ranging from sporting equipment to help our sports' teams excel at inter-school competitions, to the vital IT resources such as Ipads and the hall sound systems needed every minute of the day, their impact is evident everywhere you look!

Upcoming events such as the Father's Day Gift Shop, PTA Movie Nights, the PTA Social and the PTA Summer Fayre are just a handful of reasons why the pupils at Greswold are extremely lucky to have such a selfless committee and members.

But please remember, anyone can get involved with the PTA, whether that's helping on stalls at major events, supervising children at Movie Nights or being part of the team that organises these fabulous opportunities, everyone can make a difference.

So why not pop down to the PTA Social evening next Friday 23rd June and get a feel for the fabulous work the members of the PTA do whilst enjoying the community spirit that the PTA inspires!

Please take some time to have a look below at the endless items that the PTA has purchased for school in recent years.
