  • Greswold Active Travel campaign update

    Tue 29 Mar 2022

After reviewing the results of the first week of the Active Travel campaign, three classes have logged over 100 journeys so far.

Out of a possible 150 journeys which could be logged by each class, Nightingales in year 4 logged 126, Cedars in year 6 logged 117 and Sycamores in year 5 logged 114.

In terms of journeys which have been deemed as active, it’s very pleasing to announce that an average of 92% of all journeys logged so far have been active.

Let’s keep up the positive start and keep logging those journeys, especially pupils from Nursery, Ladybirds (Rec), Squirrels (Y1), Badgers (Y2), Sparrows (Y3), Skylarks (Y4) and Chaffinches (Y4), all of whom have below 40% engagement so far.

Thank you for your co-operation and participation.

  • A memorable visit to Play Town

    Mon 28 Mar 2022

Some of our children visited Solihull's Play Town on Tuesday 22nd March and had a fantastic time! The purpose of this trip was to develop communication, literacy, and numeracy skills through imaginative play in real life scenarios.

It was fantastic to observe the children in a different setting, role-playing with their peers and engaging with the different resources that were available. This is very local to school and we highly recommend a visit!  We all know that children learn best when it is through play and Play Town enables children to develop and extend their imaginations.

I would like to thank Mrs. Willis for organising the trip and our fantastic support staff, Mrs. Owen, Miss Baker and Mrs. Taylor.

  • Updated Travel Tracker instructions

    Wed 23 Mar 2022

    Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to the ongoing problem pupils and families are experiencing when accessing Travel Tracker, below are some updated instructions:

    (1) It’s really important that families and pupils only use the Classroom Login screen.  If for some reason, you find yourself on the Account Login screen which requires a username as well as a password, simply click on Recorder Login function at the bottom of the screen.  If you type in Living Streets Travel Tracker classroom into your search engine and click on the first option, it should take you straight to the correct page.

    (2) Type in the new password viper-zebra-elite into the Classroom Login box.

    (3) Click on your child's year group and class then click on individual (not batch) and your child’s symbol to log their travel.

    (4) You can then go back to previous days using the calendar function in the top left hand corner of the screen and fill in any day you've missed.

  • Cinderella, the poem - a real Greswold team effort!

    Tue 22 Mar 2022

As a follow-up to Storytelling Week, Mr Hornsey presented to the children his version of Cinderella in the form of a narrative poem.  He had originally set the children the challenge of helping him to remember the second half of the story (which he had forgotten!) with a number of pupils including Eliza, Tanushree, Faryal, Manishaa, Willow, Ruwaida and Aiza all contributing their own versions and ideas to help him.  It was a real team effort with the final poem being read out to KS2 then KS1 and Reception.

The final challenge set was for the pupils to think of an appropriate title for the poem.  So far, suggestions have included The Girl in the Ball Gown, Pumpkin Girl, The Midnight Princess, The Twilight Princess and The Princess who lost a shoe.  Keep the suggestions coming children...........and they have.  New ones include The Last Slipper, The Lost Princess, Oh Poor Cinders, The Sinister Stepsisters, The Runaway Beauty, The Girl who went to the Ball, the Girl who lived.... and Cinderella and the handsome prince

  • Bollywood arrives at Greswold...thanks to the PTA!

    Tue 22 Mar 2022

On Friday evening, a number of parents enjoyed a night of entertainment and dancing at the PTA's Bollywood Night.  It was a fabulous evening where parents not only fundraised for school but immersed themselves in the traditions and culture inspired by Bollywood.  Special thanks to the PTA for arranging such a unique event, the first of its kind here at Greswold and here's hoping many more can take place in the future.

  • Dr Bike is at it again!

    Tue 22 Mar 2022

As part of Greswold's Active Travel campaign, we enjoyed another visit from Dr Bike, a fully trained mechanic, who serviced and repaired children's bikes completely free of charge.  Thank you Dr Bike and we hope to see you again soon!

  • World Down Syndrome Day

    Mon 21 Mar 2022

    What does inclusion mean?

    #InclusionMeans

    #WorldDownSyndromeDay

Together we can empower people around the world to advocate for full inclusion in society for people with Down syndrome and for everyone.

Children and staff have recognised this important day and have been wearing our brightly coloured socks! Lauren in Y4 has raised awareness by sharing badges with other children and celebrating this wonderful day with her peers.

  • (Actively) leading by example...

    Mon 21 Mar 2022

Monday 21st March marked the start of Greswold's Active Travel campaign but it's not just the children who are joining in the fun.  Several members of staff are challenging themselves to travel to school in a more active way too, as you can see from the photos.  Keep up the good work everyone!

  • Perry the Bull visits Greswold

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

Children in Years 2 to 6 got a treat when Perry the Bull popped into a special assembly. The mascot for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham helped the children to find out more about the events that will take part at the event. It was a lively assembly with plenty of fun and volunteers were needed to take part in the activities. Many thanks to Perry and his friend for giving the children such a fun end to the week.
