  • Local politicians and Greswold pupils working together! Another example of Greswold impacting the community

    Fri 25 Nov 2022

Following on from a recent response to a pupil letter from The Royal Family regarding deforestation and climate change, Greswold have recently received another letter (see picture gallery) about the same subject, this time from Solihull MP Julian Knight.

Not only does this demonstrate the school's aim to promote such important global issues and how our curriculum then inspires the curiosity of our pupils but it also shows what lengths staff go to to add purpose and context to whatever they teach.  Well done everyone.

  • Learning never stops, especially for our EYFS parents!

    Fri 25 Nov 2022

On Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, we welcomed parents to join us in Nursery and Reception for a curriculum workshop. They joined in with a Phonics and Maths session and explored the classrooms and outside area with their child. We all had a wonderful time and the feedback was very positive.

    Reception parents commented:

“It is lovely to see what you do”

“I can’t believe my child knows how to split a word up”

“ The little rhymes will stick in my head for me to support them at home”

A Nursery parent commented, "Great experience…. Really got to understand what the kids are learning as well as what they get up to. Thanks for you getting us involved!!!"

In the words of a child, “This is the best day of my life having you in my class mummy!”

  • It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

    Thu 24 Nov 2022

Friday marked the final day of entries to our annual PTA Christmas Decoration competition and, as always, everyone in school were in for a treat!  The entries were fabulous and will surely make the judging very difficult indeed.  Thank you to parents and families for providing their children wiht the chance to make such creative and unique decorations.  The Christmas trees, bought by the PTA, will arrive next week, and all of the entries will be used to decorate them, just in time for the festive period and the PTA Christmas Fayre on the 10th December.  The winners from each class will be awarded their prizes at our end of term House Point assembly in a couple of weeks time.  Well done children, you've made Greswold very proud once again!

  • The first PTA event of the year is a cinema success!

    Tue 22 Nov 2022

  • Greswold now has an elite Rubik's Cuber!

    Mon 21 Nov 2022

Some wonderful news from year 5 from a few weeks ago.  Rudra in Elms was invited to take part in the Rubiks Cube National Championships. In the competition, the worlds fastest Rubik's Cubers were participating including the world record holder Max Park from the USA. Rudra did very well against the world's best and averaged 37 seconds in his 5 attempts, which means he is now part of the elite Rubik's Cubers in the country.  His family and everyone at Greswold are very proud of his achievements.  Well done Rudra.

  • Kindness Week 2022

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

Children have had a wonderful time celebrating Kindness Week this week!  Kindness Week was celebrated to empower pupils to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying can cause. They have taken part in some activities, including: designing kindness badges, writing themes such as poetry and creating class kindness diaries.

Children have been encouraged to apply for a newly released, silver Blue Peter kindness badge. This badge gives the children free entry to over 200 attractions in the UK.

  • Year 6 pupils continue their 'lifelong' learning through Bikeability

    Fri 18 Nov 2022

This week, school has provided our year 6 pupils a cycling opportunity which is the first of its kind at Greswold!  They've had the opportunity to pass their Level 3 Bikeability certificate, something usually reserved for secondary aged pupils.

The Bikeability Level 3 course aims to develop riders’ skills and confidence so they can ride in diverse road environments, including complex, often busy roads and junctions, sometimes with speed limits above 30 mph. Successful demonstration of National Standard assessment criteria in Bikeability Level 2 (which the children complete in year 5) is a prerequisite for participation in Bikeability Level 3.

The pupils have done exceedingly well cycling on the roads around school, whilst traffic passes by and are now increasingly confident in their own skills and ability in such an important lifelong learning situation.  In total, 70 children passed which is fabulous.   Well done everyone.

    In total, £540.09 was raised.

    Thu 17 Nov 2022

In a special World Cup 'Luck of the Draw' assembly this week, hosted by Miss Bragg, every class along with other members of staff were allocated, through a special draw, a country to support during the upcoming football World Cup 2022.  The prize will be an hour of golden time for the winning class to play football with a new World Cup football!  Let the competition begin....

  • A letter of thanks from our local community

    Thu 17 Nov 2022

Greswold recently received a letter of thanks from the Christian Renewal Centre for our generous donations to their Helping Hands charity.  The wonderful donations that families were able to give which coincided with October's Harvest festivals, were gratefully received by Emily and her team, as detailed in their letter below.

Thank you to everyone in our school community for demonstrating our school values, especially those of Belonging and Kindness.  Our local community always appreciates your help.
