Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Well done to the year 5 and 6 boys' and girls' Cross Country teams who successfully represented school at the South Solihull annual event recently hosted by Old Silhillians.
Year 5 girls' came 5th overall out of 11 schools with Ava-Rose finishing 2nd in the whole race.
However year 6 girls' finished 1st overall out of 11 schools with Evie-Bella coming 3rd in the race.
In the year 5 boys' race, the team finished 9th out of 11 teams with the year 6 boys' finishing 12th out of 15 schools.
Thank you to Mr Isles, Mr Chater, Mrs Reilly and Miss Smith for organising and attending the event with the children.
Finally, well done again to all the children involved with some of the results showing that Greswold, once again, have a very exciting and strong chance of competing well in all the athletics events this year!
Pupils from year 6 have been given the very important role of Junior Travel Ambassador for this academic year.
These children will assist school in promoting active ways of travelling to and from school as well as being in charge of giving out WOW badges to children who have earned them through using the Living Streets' Travel Tracker.
Parents might also see them, from time to time, in the car park or out on Buryfield Road assisting staff in promoting our Sustainable Travel initiatives as well.
For more details on our Sustainable Travel initiatives, please click on the Parents section of the website and look for Sustainable Travel.
Recently, year 6 pupils have nominated themselves for the role of House Captain for this academic year. This meant they had to address the whole of year 6 and talk about the reasons why they should be chosen. The whole year group then voted for their choices and above are the new house captains for this year. Well done children. Their role will involve helping to deliver termly house point assemblies, to be a role model and ambassador for their house and to lead their houses at whole school and year 6 events.
Thank you to all the families who attended another very successful PTA Social event on Friday. This was a chance for families, especially families new to school, to see how very special our Greswold PTA are.
As well as cost price refreshments, children were treated to free face painting, a visit from Colin from Tikety- Boo and so many other activities, all provided by school staff. Activities included Tug O' War, Parachute, Football, Tennis, obstacle and assault courses, netball, basketball and bean bag shoot!
Thankfully the weather was kind to us meaning everyone involved had a lovely time and again allowing Greswold to show how unique its community is!
Today, Mrs Scott was delighted to award the first bronze badges of the new academic year to two pupils from Year 3 Sparrows. She was very proud.
The first classes to return all of their data collection forms were:
Owls (Year 1 and 2)
Nightingales (Year 3 and 4)
Cedars (Year 5 and 6)
Well done to children and parents from our winning classes. It's not too late to return any remaining data collection forms.
New field markings have helped to motivate the children's active enthusiasm already this year. Three 5-a-side football pitches have helped to organise our lunchtime quadrant system as well as providing perfect facilities for Y5 and Y6 Wednesday and Friday lunchtime football clubs, run by the Football Development Scheme.
The Daily Mile course has also been reinstated around the outside of the KS2 field, something Greswold have adopted for several years and a way for children to increase their physical stamina and general health at times other than PE lessons.
However, watch this space because the start of next half term will signal the unveiling of another equipment location which will help to increase the physical wellbeing and motivation of the children even more!
Congratulations to Eleanor in Y4 for competing in the Associate Board of Dance Autumn festival dance competition in Tamworth. She gained gold medals in Junior lyrical trio, Junior ballet trio, junior cabaret troupe and Intermediate Acro troupe categories.
She also performed her first ever solo and gained bronze medal for her junior ballet solo out of 12 entrants.
Everyone at Greswold is so proud of your achievements Eleanor, you're a role model both in and out of school!
We are delighted to announce that, once again, we have been awarded a School Games Gold Award for Greswold's commitment and engagement in School Games during 2022-2023. Well done to all of the children who participate in the events and thank you to parents and staff who support the events.
The certificate is framed and will soon join our other School Games certificates on display.
We also delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Silver Skillsbuilder Award for Greswold's involvement in the Skillsbuilder programme to develop speaking, listening, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and treamwork. Every child participated in a Skillsbuilder challenge last year. The certificate is proudly on display.
