Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Any chance we get to celebrate group, school or individual success, Greswold always jumps at he chance! Over the summer holidays, Castiel in Chaffinches passed his piano exam pre grade 1, atruly fabulous achievement that he parents have said he's very proud of, and rightly so! By all accounts, Castiel worked very hard and is already practicing for his next exam. Well done Castiel, you're a true role model to us all!
Congratulations to a team of year 6 pupils who successfully won their regional Chance to Shine cricket heat back in June which culminated in a finals day at none other than Edgbaston stadium. A magnificent achievement was capped with a really impressive display on finals day with the team eventually finishing 4th. Well done children, we couldn't be prouder!
They also appear on the Warwickshire CCC website which you can access using the following link:

Upwards of 60 KS2 and KS1 pupils took part in the Solihull Libraries' Gadgeteers Reading Challenge during the summer holidays, a special effort that school always likes to celebrate. The challenge involved visiting a Solihull library and reading 6 different books over the summer. Each child then had to tell a librarian what the book or story was about. For children who completed the challenge, they received a Gadgeteers medal and certificate. Well done children. It's wonderful to see you still striving to develop your reading schools in your own time too!
Over the summer holiday, Mrs Frankland and other members of staff have been busy collating old resources, teaching materials and reading books (which don't match up with Greswold's curriculum) to send to Africa through the charity Books2Africa. The PTA have also been involved in contributing funds to pay for postage with the final collection being picked up and transported tomorrow. Well done to everyone involved in what it such a positive and worthwhile charity.
Greswold was thrilled to host Reverend Susan and Linda Hicks, Director of the children's and families' ministry at St Helen's Church, who took both the KS1 and KS2 assemblies. Both assemblies acted as an introduction to next week's Harvest Festival assemblies taking place at St Helen's Church for years' 1-6. Food donations are already arriving at school and once collated and collected will be shared amongst local food banks, charities and The Hermitage, the housing community on Lode Lane.
Today marks the International Day of Languages. Here at Greswold, we're extremely lucky and proud to have so many pupils who are multi-lingual, with over 30 languages other than English fluently spoken, including:
Arabic | Russian | Hindi | Urdu | Kannada |
Polish | Tamil | Spanish | Tamil | Telugu |
Chinese | Bengali | Gujarati | French | Malayalam |
Turkish | Croatian | Hungarian | Persian | Esan |
Cantonese | Pashto/Pakhto | Greek | Turkish | Sindhi |
Norwegian | Kurdish | Albanian | Marathi | Ukrainian |
With this in mind, it was so important to celebrate today's event. As well as this wonderful display near the main entrance, there is a language focus in school each term as well as an updated Modern Foreign Languages scheme being implemented this year. Finally, after school on a Friday, we have an outside provider (Madame Lamarti) who provides a languages club.
In March, Greswold launched a very successful Active Travel campaign enlisting the help of Living Streets' Travel Tracker to encourage pupils and families to travel actively to school. Although Greswold are yet to launch this year's Travel Tracker yet, it's really encouraging to see just how many families are maintaining the good work achieved during last year's campaign. The photos below demonstrate just how many children are scooting and cycling to school. In total, over 120 scooters and bicycles were counted which is a wonderful sight. Let's keep it going Greswold.
A healthy school is a happy school!
This week, members of the Senior Leadership Team enjoyed a chance to undertake a Learning Walk, an opportunity to to take in classroom learning environments and to offer advice and guidance where possible.
As I'm sure you'll agree by viewing the photos below, every class teacher had already been incredibly busy and innovative over the summer generating ways of making their classrooms as supportive, purposeful and inspiring as possible.
Each classroom emphasized our Greswold school values at every opportunity possible as well as capitalising on any opportunity to promote our learning philosophy of encouraging independence and 'Learning over teaching'. Thank you to all school staff for everything you do to support the children of Greswold.
Yesterday marked the return of Greswold's school council, an initiative geared to empower pupils to make decisions for the benefit of the school and the pupils as well as putting their energy and enthusiasm to good use for their local community and further afield.
First on their agenda was to reignite the school's fundraising passion and devising ways of raising money for our partnership charity, Educaid.
Congratulations to our first Weekly Attendance Winners of the new school year! In KS2, it was Chaffinches and Maples with 100% attendance for the first week back and in EYFS and KS1 it was Squirrels with 99.5%. What a great start to the year. We wonder which classes we'll be celebrating next...
