  • Year 4 Brass Blast

    Mon 29 Feb 2016
Warwick Arts Centre provided the venue for an evening of musical entertainment as part of Solihull Music Service's Brass Blast. Pupils in Year 4 have been learning to play brass instruments since September and tonight was a chance to perform as part of a brass orchestra. We are very proud of all the pupils who took part and many thanks must go to Mr Jones and Mr Bull who have been teaching Year 4 this year.
  • Indoor Athletics Update

    Mon 29 Feb 2016
After winning the first round of the indoor athletics competition, our Year 5 and 6 team went back into training to get ready for the next stage. Today the team were in action again at the South Solihull final at the North Solihull Sports Centre. There was a bit of confusion with the scoring, however the end result was that Greswold came joint first and now go on to the county finals. Well done to the team.
  • An enhanced healthy school...

    Fri 26 Feb 2016
We are proud to be a Healthy School here at Greswold. This national award recognises schools who promote healthy lifestyles and emotional well being for their pupils. Today we were visited by our Local Authority advisor David Gill who presented Greswold with our certificate to celebrate achieving an Enhanced Healthy School Status. Mrs Woodcock has been working hard over the past year to ensure Greswold offers all of the requirements for this award. A big well done to everyone involved.
  • Poet Neal Zetter visits Greswold

    Thu 25 Feb 2016

As part of a week of poetry themed activities, our pupils were visited by poet Neal Zetter. Children from Reception to Year 6 came together to enjoy hearing Neal perform a selection of his poems aloud and to talk about being a professional poet. There was also a chance to ask questions. It turns out that the question Neal gets asked most frequently by school children is, "Are you famous?" and he had already penned a poetic reply for when it inevitably came up.

Neal will be working with our pupils to create some poetry of their own. We are sure the children will enjoy his humour and creativity. A big thank you to the PTA for paying for Neal's visit to Greswold.

Listen to Neal perform two of his poems in our special assembly on the Greswold website.

Read a great selection of Neal's poems on his website.

  • House Point Assembly - Spring 1

    Fri 12 Feb 2016
The theme of this half term's House Point Assembly was 'Keep Calm and Celebrate Success'. Our house captains from Year 6 helped Mr Hornsey to lead the assembly in which our pupils were encouraged to be proud of their successes this half term. Members of St. Patrick's house can be very proud of themselves having earned the most house points this half term. They are now catching up on St. David's house who remain in the top position.
  • Bananagrams

    Mon 08 Feb 2016
At Greswold's we're always keen to develop our pupils' thinking skills. Children from Year 6 have been enjoying playing Bananagrams with Mrs Scott at lunchtimes. This fun game is a bit like Scrabble and encourages the development of spelling strategies. Today a trio of pupils managed to use all of the letters in one game - a great success! Look what words they created in the picture below.
  • Indoor Athletics Success

    Fri 05 Feb 2016

A team of children from years 5 and 6 took part in the South Solihull Sportshall Athletics Competition at Solihull Sixth Form College. We were very proud of the team, who had been training with Mr Hornsey at playtimes in preparation for the event.

    Final result

    1st Greswold – 258 points

    2nd Dorridge – 224 points

    3rd Monkspath – 158 points

    4th St Patrick’s – 150 points

5th Our Lady of Compassion – 144 points

    6th Kineton Green – 80 points

Considering it was the first time ever Greswold had participated in the Sportshall Athletics competition, the whole team performed exceptionally well and really excelled in all of the track and field events. Of the 12 boys and girls track events, Greswold came first in 8 of them. Their reward is the chance to compete against 7 other schools at the South Solihull Sportshall Athletics Finals being held at North Solihull Sports’ Centre on the 29th February. The winner of this particular event has then the chance to represent the whole of South Solihull at the County Finals.  Fingers crossed and more practice to be done!

  • Book Fair

    Wed 03 Feb 2016
During the parent-teacher consultations, Mrs Faulkner will be running the Book Fair. There is a great selection of books to choose from for all ages. Each class has been visiting the Library to browse the books and thinking about which they like. Greswold earns commission from books sold at the Book Fair and all the money raised will go towards buying books for class libraries.
