  • 'Punctuality Push' - Week 2 update

    Fri 15 Mar 2024

    Dear Parents or Carers,

This is an opportunity to update you on our promotion of 'Punctuality Push', our campaign to instil life long punctuality habits across the whole school community.

Unfortunately, there were still 103 pupils late in the mornings this week compared to last week's 104.  Although a very slight improvement, 46 reasons were attributed to 'traffic', exactly the same number as last week.

Please be aware that on rainy days, there will naturally be more vehicles on the road.  However it might be worth pointing out that if you're driving a vehicle to school and you state the reason for being late is traffic, you are, in essence, part of that ongoing issue.

If you have been previously late due to traffic, please consider leaving home a little earlier, even if it's by five minutes!

School have also been monitoring lateness in the afternoons as well this week.  The results below are the average amount of pupils who haven't been picked up from their class three minutes after release time:

    Y6 - 2

    Y5 - 5

    Y4 - 3

    Y3 - 8

    Y2 - 1

    Y1 - 1

    Rec - 6

It is particularly noticeable that KS1 parents are all usually on time when collecting their children so thank you very much.  Thank you to all other parents who arrive on time to collect their children too.

By doing this, it not only demonstrates the school value of Respect, it enables staff more time to continue working, evaluating and preparing while helping them to be on time for after school meetings or clubs they're required to attend or lead.  On some occasions, staff might also need the opportunity to attend a vital medical appointment on time, after contact hours (staff don't arrange medical appointments during the school day), another important reason why collecting children promptly is necessary.

School's ambition is to reduce these late figures further next week, and at the start of next term, something we can only achieve through the ongoing co-operation of our parental community.

It's understandable that on occasion, life dictates that you may be late through no fault of your own and there are numerous examples of parents rushing to make up the time while offering their apologies, something we very much appreciate.

    Thank you.

  • Y5 & Y6 Lunchtime Football Club update

    Thu 14 Mar 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

From now on, year groups will be combined for both lunchtime football clubs.  Therefore, year 5 and year 6 boys will join together on Wednesdays with year 5 and year 6 girls continuing as one group together on Fridays.

As always, children are required to wear their PE kit for the whole day and a change of trainers for when the field is wet or muddy.

    Thank you

  • Last week's Book Sale a roaring success!

    Wed 13 Mar 2024

To coincide with last week's World Book Day, the Eco Team in collaboration with Mrs Mason, Greswold's school librarian, held a book sale using a number of pre-loved books, some of which were left over from the recent Bring and Buy Sale.

The year 6 helpers who assisted the younger children to pick and collect a book were a credit to Mrs Mason and the school as a whole.  100 children in years' 2, 3 and 4 participated by donating small fees to buy a book and over £50 was raised in total.

Thank you to everyone involved and another perfect example of how the school comes together to highlight the importance of raising money for charity and recycling.

  • Greswold's school choir entertain the school during singing assembly today!

    Wed 13 Mar 2024

Children in years' 1-6 were treated to a wonderful performance from our Greswold school choir this morning during singing assembly.  The choir, including children from years' 4, 5 and 6 performed several songs they had been learning during their after school sessions.  Their parents and family members were also invited to attend.  It was safe to say that the audience were completely captivated by their wonderful performances with the children making their parents, classmates and the whole school very proud of their achievements.  Thank you to everyone involved.

  • Results from our recent Communications Survey

    Wed 13 Mar 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

By viewing the picture gallery below, you'll be able to see the results from our recent Communications Survey.  We were thrilled that 162 parents took the time to complete the survey during Parent Consultations and afterwards, and we have spent time analysing the results.

The survey itself was an action taken from priority 3 of our School Improvement Plan for 2023-24 which focuses on:

Changing the culture of communication at Greswold so all communication is firmly rooted in our BRICKS values, especially respect.

The results were very satisfying and demonstrate that, in general, our systems of communications do work well here at Greswold.  However, extra clarification to parents about which platform to use for what query is definitely something school will look to reaffirm soon, something suggested by several feedback comments.  We are also looking at increasing how many key family members can receive Parent Pay emails in the future, as this was mentioned several times too.

Also, during next half term, Greswold's senior leadership team will be reintroducing Parents' Forum, an opportunity for parents to attend a special evening meeting to discuss matters relating to pupil, family and staff wellbeing, with communication channels being the focus of the very first meeting.  More details about Parents' Forum will be communicated soon.

Thank you again for working in partnership with school on important matters such as these, as collaborative approaches will help to make school life for pupils, families and staff more purposeful, enjoyable and memorable!

  • Both children and staff join in the fun to make World Book day a real hit!

    Fri 08 Mar 2024

It was a wonderful carnival-like atmosphere today at Greswold as children and staff equally joined in the fun and dressed up accordingly as their chosen book characters.

Thank you to families for helping to make today such a memorable experience for everyone.  The day really showcased the whole school community's commitment to raising the profile and promoting a love of reading.

Take some time to see if you can guess the books which inspired the staff's costume ideas!

  • 'Punctuality Push' update (Week 1)

    Fri 08 Mar 2024

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We've reached the end of the first week of our 'Punctuality Push' campaign, a chance for Greswold to highlight the lifelong importance of being punctual and on time.  Time for an update.

In total, there were 104 pupils late into school in the mornings compared to 115 last week which is a small but pleasing improvement.  However, just under half of those lates (46) were attributed to 'traffic'.  Although Monday was quite rainy and Wednesday was very foggy, the advice shared last week will help to still avoid lateness.  Leaving the house a little earlier when weather dictates there will be more traffic on the roads will help your children to still arrive at school on time.

Thank you to the one parent who attended this week's coffee afternoon to discuss matters relating to punctuality.  It was still a really interesting and purposeful meeting.  Mr Hornsey is hoping for more parents to attend next week's coffee morning on Wednesday between 9-10am.  Again, if you wish to attend, please inform the school office beforehand.

Thank you to the parents who have also communicated their their own helpful tips and successes which help their children to be on time for school.  We will share these in the coming week.  If you wish to offer your own tips or advice, please click on the link below and complete the short survey.

    https://forms.office.com/e/8tzqHK9Lc3

Next week, school will be focusing on afternoon collections as well as morning drop-offs so please remember that collection times are 3:10pm for years' 3, 4, 5 and 6, 3:20pm for Reception and years' 1 and 2, and 3:30pm for Nursery.

Thank you and here's to a further improvement next week.

  • Champions of South Solihull.....for the 3rd successive year!

    Wed 06 Mar 2024

Another memorable morning for the Greswold Sportshall Athletics team as they took part in the School Games' Level 2 South Solihull Area Finals at North Solihull Sports' Centre.

After winning their qualifying heat, Greswold were up against the seven best schools in South Solihull with the aim to finish first out of all the large schools to make it through to the County Finals and be crowned South Solihull champions.

Another challenge the children faced was that two members of the team were taken ill meaning teammates had to step into their events at the last minute while keeping to the rules of competitors taking part in only a maximum of four events in total!

The children were magnificent, winning 8 out of 12 sprint events and being crowned champions by a margin of 80 points! A fantastic achievement culminated in the children receiving medals and being invited back to North Solihull to compete in the Level 3 County Finals on 21st March.  This time, schools from Warwickshire and Coventry will compete with Greswold and the North Solihull winners.

Roll on the 21st! Thank you to the parents who came along to give their support as well.  A real team effort!

    South Solihull Area Final results:

    1st: Greswold - 340 points

    2nd: Knowle - 260 pts

    3rd: St Alphege - 222

    4th St Patrick's - 202 (Small School Winners)

    5th: Dorridge - 192

    6th: St Augustine's - 190

    7th: Shirley Heath - 167

    8th: Bentley Heath - 160

  • Positive feedback from School Nurse Team

    Mon 04 Mar 2024

School was yesterday visited by the Solihull Schools' Nurse Team who carried out weight and height checks on all pupils in Reception.  The feedback given by the team was very complimentary who  expressed their delight at how well behaved all of the children were.  The team wanted to pass on their thanks to parents.

  • Solihull College parent workshops prove a hit with Greswold school community!

    Mon 04 Mar 2024

At Greswold, we firmly believe that parents should be partners in learning. The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) published in 2018 that 'Parental engagement has a positive impact on average of 4 months’ additional progress. It is crucial to consider how to engage with all parents to avoid widening attainment gaps.

Therefore, through working in partnership with Solihull College, we have been able to launch and run a series of parental workshops, the first of which has been focussing on understanding of grammar to support children in key stage one and two. The workshops have been that popular that within one day of sharing these with our parental community, the number of parents/carers showing interest was over double the size of the cohort we were able to offer.

Therefore, we look forward to offering more workshops in the future.
