  • Year 5 crowned county cricket champions at Edgbaston!

    Wed 19 Jul 2023

Yesterday, 10 children from Year 5 took part in the Chance to Shine County final after winning our regional event a few weeks ago.  The team played exceptionally well throughout. They won all 3 of their group games, which meant they qualified for the semi-finals which was a tense game indeed, however they prevailed and secured their place in the final.

The final was another nail-biter, but they worked incredibly well as a team, showing not only their skill but our school values, and came out on top again.  We are officially the top team in the county!!

Mrs Howell and Miss Carpenter, who went with them on the day, were so proud of them! They put a huge amount of effort into training for the day and it really paid off. A massive congratulations to them all.

  • A lovely community atmosphere during Open Afternoon

    Wed 19 Jul 2023

This afternoon's Greswold Open Afternoon was another resounding success with hundreds of parents visiting the school site to find out about their children's learning through the viewing of their books.

Pupils and their families sat together to look through their learning both inside of school and outside with some bringing blankets and chairs to create a lovely communal atmosphere.

Thank you to all the parents who joined us today and we hope you enjoyed your time sharing your children's learning.

  • Year 6 show that Darwin Rocks!

    Tue 18 Jul 2023

Our brilliant Year 6 pupils put on a fantastic performance of the show Darwin Rocks at the Bushell Hall. After rehearsing the singing, dancing and acting, it was time to take to the stage in front of a audience. The children brought amazing energy to their performance, in a show that told the life story of famous scientist Charles Darwin. Everyone was so impressed with how well the cast told the thought-provoking story through sketches and song. Well done Year 6 and many thanks to all of the staff who made the performance possible.

  • The rain couldn't stop yet another wonderful PTA event! A summer fayre to remember!

    Tue 18 Jul 2023

Greswold would like to express its thanks to everyone involved in Saturday’s very successful PTA Summer Fayre.  Even though the inclement weather meant the event had to be staged indoors, all families and visitors seem to have a really good time and, once again, it was lovely to organise a school based event which brought the whole community together.

A special thank you needs to go to our wonderful PTA who selflessly organised everything, along with the numerous helpers and staff members who all chipped in on the day to create an event with such a lovely atmosphere.  We have raised in the region of £3,000 which is marvellous and will be used to help fund curriculum enhancements for all the pupils at school.

  • Greswold's sponsored walk raises over £4000

    Wed 12 Jul 2023

A few weeks ago, our pupils took part in a sponsored walk around the Key Stage 2 field, with children walking, running, hopping and even three-legged walking laps. It was all in order to raise money for the Educaid, a charity that Greswold has been supporting for many years. Mr Carnell, Greswold's former headteacher and a representative for Educaid, popped into school to collect a cheque for all of the donations. He was amazed to find that we had raised an amazing £4193.76! A fantastic effort on behalf of the children and many thanks to all of the families who have supported the charity. Members of School Council presented to cheque on behalf of the school which will now go to fund the education of children in Kenya.

  • Greswold 'blown' away by another entertaining musical performance!

    Wed 12 Jul 2023

KS2 children were treated to yet another musical extravaganza on Tuesday when year 4 performed a brass concert to the rest of the school.  Year 4 have all been learning a brass instrument this year as part of our Wider Opportunities curriculum and the concert was the culmination of all their hard work.

Well done to all the pupils for their performance, you were amazing!

  • Sustainable Travel - Greswold rising to the challenge!

    Mon 10 Jul 2023

Greswold's determination to raise awareness of the benefits of travelling actively to travel to school will never diminish, and this year, we've made great strides in our quest.

Walk to School Week, the Walking Bus, Bikeability, the Living Streets Travel Tracker, the input from the Solihull Susatinable Travel team and the increased involvement of Junior Travel Ambassadors have all helped to engineer vital change in the choices made by our whole school community.  Admittedly, there's still a long way to go!

As always, we will endeavour to continue spreading the message of how to keep our children and community safe as well as endorsing a healthier way to travel to school.  The quest goes on! Here's to another successful year next year.

  • KS2 enjoy a very competitive Y6 House Sports' afternoon

    Mon 10 Jul 2023

As is tradition, KS2 pupils spent Thursday afternoon being entertained by year 6 pupils who were competing in their annual House Sports' competition.  Football and Rounders were the two sports on offer with all pupils representing their houses in at least one event.  The expectant crowd were both entertained and gripped by the action, with Greswold's values being clearly demonstrated by all pupils throughout.

Well done to St Andrew's who won the football competition and to St George's for winning the Rounders.  Points gained from the afternoon will go towards the whole school House Challenge leaderboard, with the winner for 2022-23 being announced on the 24th July.
