  • Y3 Den Building - using Greswold's own environment to enhance their learning

    Thu 23 Nov 2023

This morning, year 3 children came to school geared up with wellies and waterproofs for a special Design and Technology lesson taking place outdoors!

As part of their work on building structures, the children had the opportunity of applying their existing learning to building real life shelters using materials found in our Forest School area.

As you can see below, all the children had a really purposeful and enjoyable time experimenting with different ways of joining natural materials together to create shelters which would keep themselves safe.

Thank you to the year 3 staff and Mr Cooper, in particular, for providing such an immersive learning experience within the backdrop of our own school field.  Most other schools would have to travel to such a destination so it's wonderful to be able to provide this sort of experience without travel or cost!

We are so fortunate to benefit from such a perfect school environment!

  • Greswold learning galleries........sometimes mistaken for school corridors!

    Thu 23 Nov 2023

In case families didn't get chance to see our fabulous learning displays at Parent Consultation evenings last month, here they are in the picture gallery below.

At Greswold, we are firm believers in displaying children's work that they are proud of and the school corridors are the perfect places in order to achieve this.

We sometimes reference that classrooms are the 'workshops' and our corridors are the 'gallery'!  We think our school community would agree that these sorts of displays really showcase the pride and work ethic of our children along with our diverse and expansive curriculum offer.

Notice just how inventive and creative our school staff can be in presenting children's work among eye-catching and complementary scenes.  You may not be aware that a teacher's skillset often stretches to other vocations such as interior designing and artistry!

Look out for new displays at the next Parent Consultation evenings in February though as we change our displays throughout the course of the year!

  • Girls' school football team suffer another cancelled match!

    Wed 22 Nov 2023

After the first girls' school football team match was cancelled a couple of weeks ago due to the opposition not being able to fulfil the fixture, they were ready and eager for their first game this evening against Widney.

However, bad luck has struck again, for a different reason this time.  Unfortunately, due to contracted works being carried out at the Tudor Grange Sports' Centre astro-pitches, all matches have had to be cancelled meaning the girls will have to wait another couple of weeks to play for the first time!

Unlucky girls but don't worry, that means there's more time to practice!  If you'd like to come along and support the girls in their first match (hopefully) of the season then it's against Sharman's Cross on Thursday 14th December at 5pm at Solihull Moors, Damson Parkway.

  • All smiles for photograph day!

    Wed 22 Nov 2023

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in making today's photograph day a real success.

It's a mammoth task to ensure all 700 pupils have their photograph taken in just one day along with the numerous sibling photographs that are taken at the same time.

A collective effort involving photographers, teachers, PTA members who helped and, of course, the office team, meant that a day which can be very hectic went very smoothly indeed.

The children all looked so smart and fabulous so thank you to parents as well, and hopefully, the final photographs can be enjoyed by families for many years to come!

  • Y1-3 PTA Movie Night proves a real hit for pupils!

    Tue 21 Nov 2023

150 year 1-3 pupils were treated to a movie night experience yesterday hosted by the PTA and school staff.  Not only were the children treated to drinks and snacks but the film they chose to watch, Sing 2, kept them very entertained throughout.  Some children brought with them blankets and cushions while others happily joined in with the songs and even some of the dance moves!

Thank you to the PTA for providing the help and snacks and a big thank you to members of the school office for helping to organise the event.

  • Ecological Action Group at work!

    Tue 21 Nov 2023

Greswold's newly formed Ecological Action group were busy this afternoon undertaking one of their first school tasks.  Using maps, the children located every single tap in the school to ensure they were fully turned off when not in use.  This helped to ensure there wasn't any water waste, helping to maintain our environment as well as the school budget!

  • A letter from the Prime Minister!

    Tue 21 Nov 2023

A couple of weeks ago, Latest News reported on the fabulous presentations year 6 delivered, inspired by Greta Thunberg.  The subject of those presentations was deforestation, an important topic which they explored as a part of their Geography lessons on rainforests.

Subsequently, they used their presentations to generate letters which were then sent to the government.  Well, yesterday, they received a response from the Prime Minister's Correspondence Officer which you can view on the gallery below.

This is just another example of how skilled Greswold staff are at devising series' of lessons which not only add a sense of reality and context to what the children are doing, but also add a real purpose and reason so that pupils can see the impact and justification of why they are learning what the are learning.  Thank you to everyone involved and especially to the children for their magnificent letters and presentations.

  • Miss Nock and Mrs Mitchell launch this year's advent writing event!

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

This morning saw the start of this year's advent writing event.  Every year group from reception to year 6 joined Miss Nock and Mrs Mitchell in the junior hall to find out about the theme for this year's event.  The Michael Morpurgo book called 'Coming Home' will form the basis of the creative writing each class will undertake in order to, once again, generate a fabulous winter theme whole school advent calendar.

Watch this space over the coming weeks to see the finished work, as each day in December. a different door will be opened on the calendar...

  • KS2 lunchtimes - exciting, caring and innovative!

    Mon 20 Nov 2023

With the introduction of the new outdoor gym equipment on the KS2 playground, lunchtimes are getting even more exciting for Greswold pupils, so much so that some pupils are being inspired to come up with their own ideas! .

Two year 4 pupils put together an idea about starting a Bead Club and shared it with Mr Hornsey.  Their aim is invite pupils from all year groups to come and design bead bracelets that could possibly be sold to raise money for charity.  This two day a week club taking place in the outdoor classroom started last week and is another example of how caring and innovative Greswold pupils are!

  • Despite dominating, Greswold boys' football team edged out by the odd goal

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

On Thursday evening at Solihull Moors, Greswold boys' football team played their second league match of the season against Tidbury Green.  Despite having a host of chances and most of the possession, it was Tidbury Green who scored the only goal of the game just after half time.  Unlucky boys and onto the next match in the new year.

On a side note, thank you to Mr Bartley, a parent, for kindly refereeing.

    Players' report to follow......

This was only Greswold’s second game of the season. After drawing the first game 2-2, the team needed a win. The game started well with Greswold dominating the first half but the half ended 0-0, meaning Greswold needed to score in the next 11 minutes.  Unfortunately, the second half started with Tidbury Green scoring to break the deadlock. So with around 7 minutes to go, Greswold had to score either 1 or 2. Unfortunately, every time Greswold got an opportunity, the last shot, dribble or pass just wasn’t good enough. With their goalkeeper playing very well along with their defender, the game ended 1-0 to Tidbury Green. A disappointing result.
