  • Hearing Impairment awareness along with creativity on show today at school!

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

From one of our many SEND and pastoral intervention groups today, the children from Mrs Rochelle's Hearing Group have been studying how ears work and why we may need additional support or aids to help us hear.  Well done to Jessica, Annie, Lauren, Sia and Kaiden for their fabulous work.

The session nicely tied in with a Bricks theme for this week of respecting others for who they are and their differences.

  • Marvellous Marble Run Magic!

    Mon 20 Mar 2023

Greswold's two day Science festival was a roaring success last week with lessons, activities and games undertaken by the children all related to science and engineering.  To bring the whole school together, Mrs Mills and Miss Smith (Science subject leaders) organised for year groups to design and create a section of marble run which would then be joined together with other sections to create a whole school marble run.

It was wonderful to see the children and staff so enthusiastic about the challenging project with older children helping younger children to be successful.  There were also so many examples of science and engineering knowledge on display with children generating ideas by themselves on how to raise the marble once it had reached the bottom of one section so that human hands weren't involved in touching it on it's journey.

Several Star Pupil certificates given out on Friday were for contributions made by individual children in constructing the Marble Run and how their endeavours reflected our school values.  Winners were also able to launch marble on a separate marble run specially constructed for the assembly by the senior leadership team!

Several members of staff were involved in filming the journey of the marble on Friday after school from Willows on the first floor of the year 6 corridor all the way to the Reception and Nursery corridor.  The children will get to see this video in this Friday's Star Pupil assembly with it being uploaded onto the website after the assembly for our whole school community to enjoy as well......so please watch this space!

Well done to everyone for making it such a purposeful and inspiring experience.

  • Nothing stops Greswold, not even snow!

    Fri 10 Mar 2023

Even after the heavy snowfall in the early hours of Friday morning, year four pupils were still eager to go on their residential visit to Standon Bowers.  To our relief, as the conditions improved, the children happily disembarked on their adventure on Friday afternoon.  Watch this space for more Standon Bowers photos to follow....

  • Even more creativity (and this time engineering too!) on show during snow day part 2!

    Fri 10 Mar 2023

Shelters and igloos were the order of the day for the children on the second snowy day of the week.  Along with the very creative snowmen and women, being made, older children collaborated exceedingly well to construct the foundations of an igloo (using boxes to form cuboid shaped snow bricks!) along with a seven foot snow shelter!!!!

Another perfect example of how Greswold staff adapt to challenges and use all sorts of opportunities  to embed and apply learning, knowledge and skills!  Well done everyone!

  • Snowy day brings its challenges but lots and lots of fun too!

    Thu 09 Mar 2023

Take some time to view some of the photos of school from today.  Well done to families for travelling to school in some very challenging circumstances but as you'll see from these photos, the children had a wonderful time playing in the snow this morning!  Lots of imagination and creation on show!

  • Greswold win area final to become South Solihull representatives at Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire County Finals!

    Thu 09 Mar 2023

Buoyed on by a balcony viewing crowd made up of mostly Greswold parents, the Y5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics team once again proved why the school has such a strong tradition in this annual event.

Up against 4 other large school finalists, the boys and girls represented the school magnificently in performance, attitude and sportsmanship, culminating in a convincing win and passage through to the county finals on the 22nd March, representing south Solihull.

Of the 24 events, Greswold won 14 and came 2nd in another 6, proving just how committed the children were to each other, the team in general and their school as a whole.  Their achievements were also favourably commented on by several of the other teachers in attendance and each and every pupil was a credit to both Greswold and their families.  Well done to everyone involved.

School Games Level 2 South Solihull Area Final results:

    1st - Greswold (256 points)

    2nd - Knowle (218 pts)

    3rd - Dicken's Heath (198 pts)

    4th - Dorridge (166 pts)

    5th - St Alphege (132 pts)

On a final note, thank you to all the parents who attended as well.  Although spectators weren't  formally permitted in the bleachers, the viewing balcony was still advertised to all schools to be used by parents if they wanted to and, in usual Greswold fashion, our parents turned out in force to cheer on the children.  Thank you so much for your support and encouragement, it really shows just what our whole school community is all about!

  • Staff throw themselves into character on World Book Day!

    Mon 06 Mar 2023

Thank you to all the Greswold staff who embraced World Book Day completely and, along with the children, went above and beyond in getting into character for the day.  Year groups cleverly chose a theme for their outfits and I think you'll agree, they were a credit to the children, families and school as a whole.

I wonder if you can guess the chosen books from their outfits?

  • Fingers crossed for Greswold's three entries in the Living Streets' WOW badge competition!

    Thu 02 Mar 2023

This week, pupils in KS2 were invited to take part in the Living Streets' WOW badge design competition, a chance for their design to be turned into one of the badges for the 23-24 Travel Tacker campaign.  The theme for the designs was 'A British nature walk' and considering the children only had one day to enter if they wanted to, Mr Hornsey received over 30 designs.  However, he was only allowed to choose three designs to forward onto Living Streets to be judged in the nationwide competition following soon.  Greswold's winners were Ember in year 4, Amelia in Y6 and Mia in Y4.  Well done to everyone who took part and fingers crossed for our three finalists!
