New football season begins with tense draw!

The boys' and girls' football seasons began this week with two games arranged at Tudor Grange Sports' centre astro.  The girls' team's game was unfortunately cancelled, however they have upcoming games against Shirley Heath, Tidbury Green, Widney, St Alphege and Sharman's Cross schools as part of open league 3.

The boys' team are the medium/large school open league 3 against yesterday's opponents Our Lady of the Wayside, Valley, Langley, Monkspath and Tidbury Green.

The winners of each league will then go through to a South Solihull play-off in March or April against all other league winners to crown the South Solihull boys' and girls' champions.

In yesterday's boys' game against Our Lady of the Wayside, the pupils selected represented the school magnificently and were very unlucky not to win their match, hitting the post in the final minute.  The final score was 2-2.  Considering it was their first match playing together with some players playing in unaccustomed positions, it was a very promising start.

Match Report by Joseph and Dylan

Greswold vs Our Lady of the Wayside

This was Greswold’s first match. Families and supporters in attendance were treated to a mouth-watering game at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre on the new astroturf pitch. The line-up was Ahon in goal, Max and Toby in defence, Joseph, Dylan and Naren in midfield and Zain up front with Hari on the bench. Wearing the Greswold football kit gave us pride. After Dylan fired home his shot into the bottom corner, the opposition capitalized on a mistake and placed their shot past Ahon and quickly scored another meaning at half time it was 2-1 to the other team. Mr Hornsey gave us a quick team talk and we came out after half time strong.

After a nerve-wracking start to the second half, Dylan placed another strike into the bottom corner making it 2-2. Greswold dominated the rest of the game but couldn’t find the winner meaning the final score was 2-2. After the game the players thought they deserved to win but a draw was a solid result.
