Curriculum Intent
For every child to develop a sound understanding of Maths, equipping them with the skills of calculation and applying these skills to reasoning and problem solving tasks that they will use beyond school, in real life.
At Greswold, we will provide exciting, ambitious and empowering learning that develops resilience in pupils through the use of Growth Mindset. Our Maths curriculum is devised in a way that allows children to store knowledge to long term memory. We give children the opportunity to apply their maths skills that allow them to see how it is used in real life situations. We use curriculum enhancements, such as extra-curricular activities and theme days, to provide opportunities for children to apply and develop personal, social and academic skills.
Greswold Maths Vocabulary Progression Map
Below is a document which shows the vocabulary we use at Greswold. This is a progression map, and shows the language which we introduce each year, building on previous years.
Greswold Calculation policy
At Greswold, we follow the White Rose scheme of learning, and adapt to the needs of our pupils.
Below is a copy of the calculation policy we follow here at Greswold, which shows the methods your child will use for the 4 main operations.
KS1 Number fluency
At Greswold, in Year 1 and Year 2, we follow the White Rose Fluency Bee scheme in order to develop the children's number sense so that they leave KS1 with a secure understanding of number.
This project aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number.
