Phonics Workshop for parents a real success!
This week, Miss Jones (Phonics Subject Lead) has been leading phonics workshops for Greswold parents. For parents, it was a chance to see how phonics is taught in school using our current scheme Supersonic Phonic Friends. Each workshop reflected what everyday phonics sessions looked like and were intended to give parents a better idea on how they can best support their children with reading and spelling at home.
The sessions each consisted of an initial recap, lots of segmenting and blending, reading with speed, teaching of the rules (if there were any) and strategies that we use if there is no rule. The sessions also demonstrated how new learning was then applied to the children's own writing and how they then edit their work by giving themselves a tick or fixing it quick!
