Against the odds, Greswold reach County Finals after being crowned South Solihull champions!

Yesterday, Greswold's Sportshall Athletics team competed at the School Games South Solihull Area Final at North Solihull Sports' Centre against 8 other schools.

After winning their qualifyng heat, Greswold were ranked second going overall into the event over 40 points behind the top ranked school, Knowle.  The children had been practising for the event as part of their PE lessons and their classmates all contributed to helping get the athletes ready.  However, the task to overtake Knowle was always going to be challenging.

However, after 12 track and 12 field events including baton, obstacle and over and under relays along with javelin, standing long and triple jump, amongst others, the children had to wait nervously to find out the final results at the end.

There were some notable individual performances along with brilliant teamwork to surpass even the expectations of Mr Hornsey.

In the end, the team did in fact overhaul a 44-point deficit to win the event by 8 points, a truly incredible performance.  This means Greswold will now represent South Solihull at the County Finals on the 25th March against regional winners from North Solihull, Coventry North, South, East and West along with representatives from the county of Warwickshire too.

Well done to all the children involved and to their classmates who contributed to such a wonderful performance.
