Phonics

 

To start your phonics session have a go at recapping some phase sounds and tricky words. Choose a different set of digraphs, blends or words to recap each day.

Linked below are the Year 1 and 2 common exception words. Your child should be able to read and spell the Year 1 common exception words by the end of Year 1. If your child is confident with reading and spelling the Year 1 common exception words try learning to read and spell the Year 2 common exception words. 

 

Today's recap blend is 'thr'. Put the sounds buttons on the 'thr' words in the pre recorded phonics lesson.

 

Today's focus sound is 'wh'. Use the link below to see what 'Geraldine the Giraffe' found around the house. 

 

Play the 'wh' four in a row game with a member of your family. If you are unable to print, copy nine of the words into a quick table to play noughts and crosses.

Please read with your child for 15-20 minutes each day by choosing a free ebook from the correct book band using the Oxford Owl website here. This can be done in one chunk or broken up into smaller chunks throughout the day. Please send a Tapestry message to your child's class teacher to find out which coloured band your child is on.

Guided Reading

 

This week's Guided Reading story is 'The Three Ninja Pigs' by David Bedford and Becka Moor. Click here to take part in today's pre-recorded lesson. Today you will be answering retrieval and choice questions about the front cover. You can either record your answers verbally and upload them to Tapestry or write them on a piece of paper. 

English

 

This week in English we are looking at 'The Three Little Pigs' fairy tale. Today you will be using adjectives to describe characters. Click here to watch the pre recorded lesson.

Science

 

In Science this week we are learning about the weather. Please click on the pre recorded lesson to learn about the different types of weather that we can get in the United Kingdom. 

 

You can print off the 'observation grid' worksheet below to complete the activity within the video presentation. If you do not have a printer at home, please write any observations down on a piece of paper.

 

The activity this week is to create a weather diary for the upcoming week. Please use the 'Weather Diary' worksheet below, or create your own.

As of this week we will be introducing Fluency Fact Fridays. By the end of Year 1, we will have learned all of the fluency number facts to pass Planet Pluto in our Number Solar System.

 

Watch the pre-recorded lesson to find out more about it and to practice your first fluency facts - adding 0. Use the Matching cards below, or create your own to help learn the facts off by heart. 

 

Parents can find an overview of all Fluency Facts the children will need to know by the end of Year 2 below, but we will be focusing on a small set of the number facts each week.
