Year 1-Week Beginning 04.01.21

Phonics

 

This weeks focus sounds are 'ow' and 'ou'. Watch the Geraldine the Giraffe videos and have a go at completing the phonics challenges.

Have a go at writing some silly sentences with as many 'ow' and 'ou' words as you can think of.

 

Don't forget to complete your spelling test on Thursday and send your results to your teacher via Tapestry.

English

This week we are introducing out topic of Fairy Tales. The children will be looking at using capital letters for proper nouns and recapping our work on conjunctions. Videos to support the children's learning can be found in the video resource centre or linked below.

 

This weeks activities are:

 

Using the 'Once Upon a Time' pictures below write sentences that describe what is happening in the picture. Make sure you include capital letters for proper nouns (like names and names of places) and conjunctions (such as and, because, but). 

 

Draw a picture of your favourite fairy tale and explain why you like it. A template is provided below.

 

Share some of your favourite fairy tales with you family. 

 

Handwriting- Long ladder letters l, t and i.

Maths

This week in Maths we are introducing time. Videos to introduce the topic and support the children with their learning can be found on the video resource centre or linked below.

O'clock Times Spicy/Hot- Read and write the times on each clock and then draw the hands to show the correct time. Remember that the hour hand is short and the minute hand long. If you do not have access to a printer use the online teaching clock linked below to create the different times.

Make a Clock Face- Have a go at creating your own clock using the template

 

Time Sorting Card Game- Which amount of time matches which activity. 

 

Time Board Game- Play the time board game with a member of your family. Make sure you read the time on the clock you land on.

This term we will be looking at friendship. Think about who your friends are and what kind of things you do with them. Draw a picture of yourself with all of your friend and write a list of some of the things you like to do together.

Geography

 

This week we are looking at the cardinal directions. Watch the 'Cardinal Direction Song' on YouTube. Label the compass sheet and then write your own set of directions to a fairy tale character of your choice using the fairy tale map, for example- Start on 'start' then go north 2 squares, east 3 squares, north 2 squares. This will take you to Rapunzel.
