Phonics

 

To start your phonics session have a go at recapping some phase sounds and tricky words. Choose a different set of digraphs, blends or words to recap each day.

Open the 'Beat the Teacher' file below. Write down as many words as you can think of using only the letters and graphemes on the worksheet. I will reveal how many I created on Fridays live catch up session and you will be able to see if you were able to beat the teacher!  

Today you will be recapping all of the phase 5 sounds. Please play the 'Phase 5 Blast Off' game with a family member. 

Reading 

 

Please read with your child for 15-20 minutes each day by choosing a free ebook from the correct book band using the Oxford Owl website here. This can be done in one chunk or broken up into smaller chunks throughout the day. Please send a Tapestry message to your child's class teacher to find out which coloured band your child is on.

 

We currently also have access to the Collins Big Cat Ebook Library which a a variety of colour banded books. Click on the teacher portal and log in using the username and password below.

Today is going to be an active phonics session. You are going to pretend to be Geraldine! I would like you to hunt around your house for as many items that you can find that contain the long 'a' vowel sound (ai, ay, a_e). Write a list of the items you find or take pictures and upload them to Tapestry. Who will find the most?

Today you are going to write a character description based around a character from the story of your choice. Please choose from the 'Character Description Templates' below. You can describe what the characters look like, what they are wearing and their personality. 

 

Remember to check that you have included everything in the success criteria.

 

As an extra challenge, try to include other punctuation such as commas, an exclamation mark or even a question mark.

You may wish to design it using food items that you already have at home so that you can actually make and eat your snack too!
