  • Year 4 Brass Blast

    Tue 24 Feb 2015

Our Year 4 pupils have been learning to play a brass instrument since the beginning of the year. This evening they took to the stage at Warwick Arts Centre to perform as part of Solihull's 'Brass Blast' concert. They performed some of the songs they have been practicing over the past few months to an excited crowd of parents and siblings. Well done, children - you were real stars tonight. There are more pictures in the Year 4 Brass Blast Gallery.

  • Our first top attendance award goes to...

    Fri 13 Feb 2015
5W were the first winners of our new attendance award. We have good attendance here at Greswold - but we're always looking to make things even better. To encourage our pupils , each class is now competing to see which has the best attendance in their year group and also which class has the highest attendance in the school. We will see if 5W retain their position at the end of next half term or if another class takes the title.
  • Book Fair

    Thu 05 Feb 2015
Our library at Greswold gets better each year because of the lovely new books in it. Our Book Fair helps to buy books to stock the main library and the classroom libraries. We would really value your support for this year’s Book Fair and we all know that our children will enjoy the books you buy.

Each class will be visiting the library to look at the books and write a short wish list. The books will not be purchased at that time, so they won’t need to bring money with them into school. On the Parents-Teacher Consultation Evenings (Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th February) you will have the opportunity to buy the books if you wish. Your support for this event will be much appreciated. Thank you.
  • Year 5 and 6 learn about fire safety

    Tue 13 Jan 2015
Officers from Solihull fire station visited Year 5 and 6 to talk about fire safety. The children learned what to do in emergency situations, how to make a 999 call and identified fire hazards that can occur in at home. Each child has also been given the task of discussing fire safety with their family at home including their escape plan in case of a fire at night. By completing this task at home they will receive a certificate from West Midlands Fire Service. A big thank you to White Watch for their time this afternoon.
  • BRICKS

    Fri 09 Jan 2015
Over the past year, we have been reflecting on the values we think are important to the Greswold community. With Mrs Woodcock leading the process, we have involved representatives our staff, governors, parents and pupils to help us decide our core values. After a lot of discussions we have now decided that the values we think are key to life at Greswold are belonging, respect, independence, curiosity, kindness and success.

In this week's whole-school assembly, Mrs Scott launched our new values. With some help from the children she explained what the values mean and how they will make Greswold an even better school. The values can be remembered by the acronym BRICKS - which is also a good way to think about them. They are the building blocks of our community. We will promoting each of these values with our pupils, starting by focusing on respect this half term.
  • Stroll and Roll

    Fri 19 Dec 2014
This half term, our classes have been encouraged to walk, scoot or cycle to school as part of Solihull's Stroll and Roll initiative. Each pupil was given a collector card and got to put a sticker on their class' chart after making their way to or from Greswold in an environmentally friendly way. Well done to 1F who completed the challenge first, to 3S who were second and 2H who finished third. Each class received a trophy to look after for the next half term - well done.
  • School Bank Competition Winners

    Fri 12 Dec 2014
To encourage our School Bank members to save, each time they made a deposit this term they were given a lottery ticket. Today in assembly the tickets were drawn by members of the banking team. Well done to the winners from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 who each received a special money box which counts the money put into it. The school bank will reopen for business on Friday 9th January 2015.
  • House Point Assembly - Autumn 2

    Fri 12 Dec 2014
St. David's House led the last housepoint assembly of 2014. They shared the origins of different Christmas traditions and told the story of the Christmas Mouse. After totalling up all of the housepoints from this last half-term, St. Andrew's got 22 points towards the total, St. David's 23 and the joint winners were St. George's and St. Patrick's with 28 points each. This means that St. Georges edge into first place in the overall competition
  • Christmas Dinner Day

    Wed 10 Dec 2014
It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas... Today our pupils enjoyed their traditional Christmas dinner. The kitchen staff had been busy since early this morning cooking turkey with all the trimmings (including the ever popular sprouts). There was a real festive feel in the hall with Christmas songs, hats and even crackers to pull. Our dinner supervisors had to explain to a few children how the fake mustaches they had found in their crackers were used.
  • Greswold's PTA Christmas Fair

    Sun 07 Dec 2014

Our traditional Christmas Fair was a great success with hundreds of members of our community visiting throughout the day. There was lots to do for young and old alike including tombolas, games, craft stalls and, of course, hot food and drink. For the children there was also a chance to visit Father Christmas. Another highlight was Mrs Jellicoe's Song Squad performing a selection of carols.

A huge thank you to the PTA for organising the event and to everyone who supported by donating items or their time. All the money raised will go towards the children here at Greswold.

Well done to everyone who entered the gingerbread competition. There were some very creative entries - you can see them below.
