  • Greswold celebrates our indispensable support staff on National Teaching Assistants Day

    Tue 30 Sep 2025

Friday marked this year's National Teaching Assistants Day, an opportunity to show appreciation to our dedicated team of over 40 teaching and learning support assistants.

There are over 244,000 TA's working in schools across the UK and 96% of Headteachers firmly believe TA's add value to their schools.

At Greswold, we are so lucky to have support staff, most of which have dual roles which impact the wider school community, including Play Leaders, Lunchtime Supervisors, office staff, Learning Support Assistants, key workers at Greyhounds, Advanced Teaching Assistants, Learning Mentors and, of course, Teaching Assistants.

Without them, Greswold would definitely not be the Greswold we are today!

  • Top 20 finishes for Greswold girls at Cross Country competition!

    Tue 30 Sep 2025

It was the turn of the girls to represent Greswold at the Y5 and Y6 Cross Country competition at Old Silhillians this evening.

After a brilliant 2nd place team finish by the Y6 boys on Thursday, the girls all performed admirably and showed a great deal of commitment with Shriya (11th), Ellie (18th) and Florence (18th) finishing in the top 20 on their respective races. Overall, Y5 girls finished just outside the medal places in 4th with Y6 girls finishing in 8th.

The mile long course was challenging for the 90 girls in each race but the level of teamwork and support on show from Greswold and other schools was so lovely to see.

Having so many confident runners also bodes well for Sportshall Athletics and Y6 Borough Sports' later in the year too!

Thank you as always to the parents who lent their support and to Mrs Rochelle and Mrs Foster for attending.  Without staff giving up their time, these sorts of invaluable events couldn't take place.

  • Introducing the new PTA newsletter!

    Tue 30 Sep 2025

On behalf of the school, we would like to thank the parents (in-person and online) who attended last week's PTA Annual General Meeting.

It was a really positive meeting with new personnel being voted onto the committee, a comprehensive review of last year's events and discussions around the exciting events taking place this year.

As always, we are immensely grateful to the committee for making a massive contribution to curriculum enhancements across the school with at least one theme day/workshop for each year group being funded by the PTA.  Additional contributions to library furniture, the KS1 Trim Trail, sports' kit replacements, amongst other things, were also approved.

The PTA have also decided to release a termly newsletter which will enable the Greswold and local community to be more aware of the events that the PTA will be running or be involved with this year.  A wonderful idea which really demonstrates how forward thinking the committee is.

Click on the link below to take you to the PTA website page in the Community section of the website.  This contains more information about the PTA and the events being organised as well as a bigger version of the newsletter:

  • Year 6 boys acheive silver medal at annual Cross Country competition

    Mon 29 Sep 2025

The start of the inter-school sports' events for this academic year was marked by a superb performance from our boys' cross-country team, with the year 6 boys acheiving a brilliant second place in the large school team event.

The aim of the event is to score the least amount of points possible with the position of each member of the team added together once they have completed the 1 mile course.

Super congratulations to James and Gino who finished 4th and 6th respectively out of 85 year 6 participants and, Seb in year 5, who finished 12th in his race.

Well done to all the boys who took part and thank you to families for supporting.  A spoecial thnaks to Mrs Rochelle, Mr Isles and Mr Chater for attending the event.  Tomorrow sees the girls' competition, once again at Old Silhillians.

  • Another 'magical' PTA Social!

    Mon 29 Sep 2025

This year's PTA Social event was another roaring success on Friday where parents and children were entertained by, not only by staff, but by a visiting magician too!

The event acts as an introduction to the PTA event calendar for the year and it was wonderful to see so many families attend.  Over 20 Greswold staff members were on hand to entertain the children with free games and activities, including an obstacle relay, penalty shoot-out, face painting, tennis, parachute games, target games, and many more.

Refreshments were provided by the PTA and the overall feedback from parents was very positive and complimentary.

Thank you to everyone who helped orgnaise such a lovely community event and thank you to so many families for attending.

Dont' forget, the next major PTA event is the Christmas Fayre on Saturday 6th December.

  • Impressive colour mixing from year 2

    Fri 26 Sep 2025

In Year 2 Otters today, we have been learning how to mix colours.  Dylan was so proud of his piece of abstract art so why not share it with the whole school community.

What's really impressive is just how much variation of colour he has acheived in one lesson and by studying each mix individually, you can see the different colours used clearly.

    Well done Dylan.

  • National Highways visit upgraded spaces thanks, in part, to their generous funding

    Tue 23 Sep 2025

This morning, Mr Hornsey met with two representatives from National Highways who came to see spaces around school that their funding have contributed to.

Previously, Greswold applied for funding from National Highways, who were reimbursing schools for any problems arising from ongoing works on the M42. As Greswold is such a large school with some families travelling significant distances, we were rewarded with a grant of over £7,000 towards regeneration work we were doing in the three outdoor areas between the long corridor and year three classrooms.

The generous funding instigated a large-scale regeneration of the areas mainly funded by the school budget, with help from the PTA.  We now have three usable spaces which can be used by all pupils, with one space utilised for SEND provision all year round. Look at for these spaces at the upcoming Parent Consultations in October.

These sorts of funding grants are becoming so valuable to schools nowadays so if any parents are aware of other funding or grant avenues offered by local businesses, please let us know.

  • Summer Reading Challenge success!

    Fri 19 Sep 2025

Once again, Greswold are very proud to share our pupils' love for reading after so many completed the Solihull Reading Challenge this summer.

The children successfully read at least six books from Solihull libraries, recalling details of each story, to a representative of the library they visited, on each occasion.

They were then awarded a certificate and a special medal.  Well done to all the children involved in the reading challenge this summer and particularly to those children who completed it.  We're very proud of you all.

  • Introducing Greswold's new Junior Travel Ambassadors for 2025-26!

    Fri 19 Sep 2025

This morning, those year 6 pupils who have been chosen for the role of Junior Travel Ambassador, for this academic year, received their badges.

The role is very important in highlighting the importance of active and sustainable travel across the school, helping to alleviate traffic congestiona nd keep families safe.  They are also heavily involved in running the Living Streets Travel Tracker, awarding monthly badges, as well as promoting other activities and opportunitites to the rest of the school during assemblies.

One such activitiy will be the annual 'Be Bright, Be Seen' art competition which prepares the whole school for things to think about when travelling to and from school when the darker monrings and evenings draw in.

Well done to Devaansh, Rohan, Gino and Isaac for being chosen.  We know you'll be amazing.

  • Language Leaders Launch Language of the Month Poster Competition

    Fri 19 Sep 2025

Last week, Mrs Beddow had the first meeting with the new Language Leaders for this year.  The children launched the Language of the Month poster competition for this year. We are proud of the diversity of the many languages that our pupils and their families speak here at Greswold. The Language Leaders are looking forward to looking through all of the poster competition entries and choosing the winners, ready for the first Language of the Month on October 1st!
