Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
School would like to thank members of the PTA, school staff and Greswold families who all contributed in making Friday's PTA Social event another fantastic success.
The weather gods were definitely on our side which helped to create such an enjoyable, family friendly atmosphere, along with the activities and refreshments provided.
A special mention must go to the staff face painting team of Mrs Powell, Mr Jones, Mrs Rochelle and the returning Mrs Jellicoe, who worked tirelessly throughout to ensure every child got their wish! Even Mrs Scott jumped in to help out too!
There were football, basketball, athletics, Tug O' War and other games and activities available, run by teachers and school staff, for the children and parents to enjoy along with a specially invited circus skills performer. As the event was a prelude to this year's PTA event calendar, all activities were free and the refreshments were sold at cost price, helping to make it such a special occasion.
Thank you to everyone involved, and to those families who attended, in making the first PTA event of the year such a memorable evening.
Today, Greswold said a huge thank you to our incredibly talented support staff on National Teaching Assistant Day. Each member of the TA, LSA, Inclusion, Greyhounds, Walking Bus and Lunchtime teams had a personal message displayed on bunting, along with a special mention on. In assembly, all children were asked to say thank you to our wonderful TAs.
After meeting with the house captains two weeks ago, today it was the turn of the school council to meet with Mrs Scott for a drink and chat. She was very impressed with the initial ideas and their commitment to bringing about positive changes at Greswold.
Attendance is a key priority for Greswold and I'm pleased to say since we started back our attendance has improved each week. Even though Greswold children were away from school for six weeks during the summer, it didn't stop them from continuing their love of reading.
Dozens of children completed the Solihull Summer Reading Challenge where they successfully read at least six books from Solihull libraries and then recall the stories for the benefit of a a librarian to listen to.
They were then awarded with a certificate and a special medal. Well done to all the children involved in the reading challenge this summer and congratulations to those children who completed it.
In two weeks' time, the PTA Social event on Friday 27th September marks the start of our Greswold PTA fundraising calendar for this academic year. All funds raised through these events goes to enhancing every Greswold pupils' education further.
This year, there are a number of projects that school and the PTA have identified as perfect ways to spend the funds raised throughout the year.
Firstly, there are three outside areas next to year 3 which have received extensive ground work over the summer to allow each to be used functionally by staff and pupils. Each area looks fabulous, with the one outside Robins even having a canopy fitted so it can be used in all weathers. The aim now is to use PTA funding to purchase furniture and resources to make the spaces interactive, sensory and flexible.
Outside The Nest in upper Key Stage 2 is another location identified for a revamp with PTA help. Sensory wall maps and fidget walls have already been identified as possible purchases to help make the area a fully sensory and interactive environment.
Finally, our school library has always been a favourite amongst pupils, staff and parents alike. However, we feel that it now deserves a bit of tender loving care to ensure the children have a comfy and cosy place fit for purpose to enjoy their reading, and is another project that the PTA intend to get involved with.
With the help of the parental community, these projects can be funded and up and running at the earliest opportunity during this academic year. Thank you in advance for your generosity and for working in partnership with school and the PTA.
See you at the PTA Social on Friday 27th September!
As highlighted in assembly this morning, Greswold would like to wish all who are celebrating the Mid Autumn festival or Mooncake Festival, a happy celebration with families and friends. Particularly celebrated in Hong Kong, it is a harvest festival and is a time for family reunion. Click here for a video with more information. There is a large festival taking place in Touchwood Shopping Centre on the 14th September. Families are welcome to enjoy a free event involving music, food and arts and crafts. Mrs Scott is hoping to try some mooncake and cha.
Greswold has always enjoyed a very longstanding tradition of actively participating in a range of inter-school sporting competitions each year.
In 2023-24, we were crowned County Champions in Sportshall Athletics, came runners-up to Solihull School in the Borough Sports' event (Our best result so far) and reached the play-off finals in the boys' football league competition.
2/3 of our year 6 pupils represented the school in at least one inter-school sports' event and our aim is to increase that figure this year.
Below is a calendar of events Greswold will be participating in during this academic year and we are actively looking to increase our participation in other events, including Netball. If anyone in our parent community is aware of any local Netball coaches who might be able to assist Greswold with specialist training, please feel free to contact Mr Hornsey, Mr Isles or Mrs Reilly.
