Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Over the last few weeks, a number of school events have helped to raise money to, as always, fund enrichment activities for all the children of Greswold.
Following another very successful BookFair, nearly £1,200 commission has been raised, through the generosity of Greswold parents, to be spent on the school and class libraries.
£194 was also raised by the PTA as a result of the Cauliflower Cards scheme which ran through Christmas. Thank you to all those families involved who contributed to that donation.
Following on from our very successful Science Day and as a prelude to the upcoming Science Fayres, a selection of year 6 pupils were invited to visit the Science department at King Edward's School in Selly Oak.
It gave the children a really useful insight into what Science learning will look like when they start secondary schools and judging by the photos, the children can't wait to start!
Recently, year 4's History learning around the topic of Ancient Greeks has enabled them to develop and refine their sculpting skills. Below is a selection of photos from Nightingales of pupils and their very authentic greek pot scultptures.
Well done children.
Next week, the Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics team will be competing in the South Solihull Area Final against nine other schools, all hoping to clinch that all important first place which enables the winner to compete in the subsequent County Finals.
The team have been very busy training for the event. However, two members of the team have been able to undertake some extra training as Jess and Lizzie both represent Solihull and Small Heath Athletics club at out-of-school competitions. This has enabled them to be selected for a combined Birmingham team at a recent regional event.
They both did amazingly well with Birmingham actually ending up winners! This bodes very well for next week when they be representing school in their track and field events at the Area Final. Well done Lizzie and Jess, we are all very proud of you.
Nearly 100 pieces of preloved uniform has now been given out to parents following our Parent Consultation evenings at the end of last half term.
Unclaimed clothing without names is accumulated and washed before being stored for parents to order at any point during the year, however most orders take place during the week of Parent Consultations due to the display at the entrance.
93 pieces of clothing in total was sent out this week alone, but it's worth noting there is still a huge amount of preloved uniform still available, including trainers and coats. Simply collect an order form from the main school office and we will do our best to find the items you need, completely free of charge. Alternatively, you can email your requests to the office email at:

This morning, I received a lovely but thought-provoking letter from a pupil about parking or dropping off on Zig Zag lines directly outside school and how this was affecting him. It was an interesting pupil perspective and a powerful way of reinforcing our expectations around parking.
As one of the most inclusive mainstream schools in Solihull, Greswold has a significant number of pupils at Greswold with a special educational need or disability.
Some of the traits of pupils with autism, for example, can include the need to follow rigid routines. They can also have interests which they follow intensely and be distressed by minor changes as pupils can be very 'rule' driven.
It's another and probably the most important reason for why parking considerately in the right places is vital at such an inclusive school like Greswold. Car horns can also cause great anxiety for young children with research proving excessive traffic noise, including horns, is linked to poor cognitive development, increased stress, and impaired concentration.
While Greswold concedes that some car horns are caused by commuters not connected to Greswold, it’s also a stark reminder to our families of how a simple reaction can cause distress to our most vulnerable learners which could last for the rest of the day.
Something to reflect on, I feel, for our whole school community.

Rowing fever has taken over Year 6 this term as Mr Isles invited pupils from Cedars, Willows and Maples to develop their skills in readiness for this year's annual School Games competition.
The enthusiasm of the children, with over half of the children in year 6 attending training, meant that Mr Isles was able to enter extra teams. In total, 7 teams and 28 pupils represented the school at the girls., boys. and SEND Area Final events.
The training well and truly paid off with Greswold team 1 placing 2nd in their girls' event, Greswold team 1 placing 1st in theirs and our SEND team placing 2nd in their event. These magnificent achievements mean each of those team will now go onto compete in the County Finals in March.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of our hands, the date of the event coincides with the Sportshall Athletics Area Final meaning pupils from the other rowing teams, who also did well, will now get the chance to step up and replace their colleagues and row for the school in the County Final, a real team effort. Well done everyone.
On Tuesday 10th February, our Year 6 Basketball Team attended the second part of our South Solihull School Games Basketball tournament (after playing the first part in November) at St Peter's School.
The event was a Develop event meaning the winners were not solely based on points and ability but also the way they demonstrated the School Games values throughout.
The team itself worked incredibly well and were a credit to their teachers, their families and the whole school. They managed to outscore every school they played including victories against St Patrick's, Balsall Common and Tidbury Green which was magnificent. What was even more pleasing was the team scored the highest points available for the School Games values of honesty, respect and teamwork as well, voted for by each umpire, which also helped to cement the team's overall victory.
While their basketball skills must be admired, the fact that each team member demonstrated Greswold values at all times throughout the competition is just as pleasing and important. Well done to the team, everyone at Greswold is very proud of you.
