  • History is the theme of the day for Gifted and Talented workshop

    Thu 30 Apr 2026

This morning, Greswold once again hosted a collection of children from local schools, including some of our year 5 pupils, for our half termly Gifted and Talented workshops.  Today's theme was History and, as you can see below, the children had a wonderful time exploring the artefacts on show and applying their historical enquiry skills.

  • Y3 pupil has poem published in national competition

    Thu 30 Apr 2026

Congratulations to Kiyam in year 3 who has had his entry to a national poetry competition chosen to be published in a special book.

His wonderful poem based around the theme 'I have a dream in 2026' was part of the Young Writer's national showcase competition and a great example of how Greswold pupils explore their academic interests out of school too.

Well done Kiyam, we're all very proud of you.

  • Young Carers come together to share their experiences

    Thu 30 Apr 2026

Last week, a group of Young Carers spent time together sharing their experiences of tube feeding.  All the children have direct experience of assisting with this process for loved ones.  The children conveyed a lot of care, empathy and understanding of their situations.  The children all spoke about the unsettling feelings they experienced at first but also realised how being Young Carers gives them many incredible skills.  They all agreed that it was a positive experience to be able to share their stories.

Young Carers groups in UK schools are support initiatives designed to identify and assist pupils under 18 who look after a family member with an illness, disability or other type of need.  At Greswold, this extends to children who help to look after adults too.  This group, led by Mr Jones, provides safe spaces to talk about experiences and peer support.

  • Our successful Sponsored Read raises nearly £1,000 for our school and class libraries!

    Thu 30 Apr 2026

Thank you to all of our Greswold families who took part in the Sponsored Read event last term.  The total raised was an incredible £604.14. This total was then added to with an extra 60% reward from the publisher meaning the total raised for school was £966.60!

Not only will this money, along with the money raised from this year's Book Fairs, fund improvements to our school library but our aim this term is to also enhance every single classroom library too.  This ambition will enable pupils to fuel their curiosity of current learning topics, to become more aware of our school's diversity and to promote their enthusiam for reading even more.

Winners from each year group, in terms of total minutes read in a week, were as follows:

    • Nursery – Arthur
    • Reception – Freya
    • Year 1 – Roman M
    • Year 2 – Maryam
    • Year 3 - Daniel
    • Year 4 – Shashvanth
    • Year 5 – Evelyn
    • Year 6 – Hamna

Each winner received a certificate in an assembly and a £10 book voucher.

  • A wonderful gesture from Ellie and another example of pupils demonstrating our values!

    Thu 30 Apr 2026

Yesterday morning, Mr Hornsey found a bag and a message on his chair.

He'd previously asked Ellie, in year 5, if he could borrow a pair of her goalkeeping gloves for the football festival he was organising.  Although she is a very talented footballer, Ellie knew she couldn't take part in the festival as she had already represented the school team throughout the year and the festival was for children who hadn't already.

Nevertheless, perfectly demonstrating our value of Belonging, Ellie provided the teams with a bag full of goalkeeping gloves and shinpads for other children to use in case they didn't own any themselves.

What a wonderful gesture from Ellie and a perfect example of how our values are applied by pupils in many different ways, both in and out of school.

Thank you Ellie, we're all very proud of you.

  • Our hardworking PTA are always raising money!

    Thu 30 Apr 2026

For the past three months, the Greswold PTA has been one of the charities that shoppers, visiting Becketts Farm farm shop, can donate special tokens to as part of their community funding programme.

When a shopper buys a carrier bag, they donate a token to one of the charities and as a result, the PTA have been awarded a cheque for £490.56!

This is just one example of how our magnificent PTA exhausts every avenue, both in and out of the school, to raise precious funds for school to buy those extra curriculum enhancements which help us to achieve our ambitions for the pupils.

Currently, we are still part of the Tesco token scheme which is running in shops in Solihull centre, Hobs Moat and Hermitage Road.

Thank you to the volunteers who selflessly give their time and energy for the benefit of all the pupils here at Greswold.  We're all extremely lucky to have you!

  • A festival of football fun enjoyed by everyone in attendance!

    Thu 30 Apr 2026

Yesterday evening, over 70 pupils from Greswold and Dicken's Heath schools came together for a specially arranged football festival for year 5 and 6 pupils.

This annual event, once again hosted by Lode Heath school, was an opportunity for boys and girls, yet to represent their respective school football teams, to have receive the chance to play for the school team.  2 girls' teams and 2 boys' teams from each school played a total of 3 matches each in perfect conditions, especially for their spectating families.

The values on show from Greswold pupils were exemplary, a really positive common theme when the school takes part in inter-school events, and a perfect chance for year 6 pupils to show their determination and enthusiasm for football as they approach their KS3 journeys in September.

    Well done to everyone involved.

  • Both boys and girls football teams narrowly miss out on play-off finals!

    Fri 17 Apr 2026

It's been a very busy football season for the boys and girls school football teams this year which culminated in very pleasing league finishes.

However, both teams narrowly missed out in qualifying for the end of season play-offs with the girls' team finishing second in their league and the boys finishing third.

Well done to all the pupils who have represented the school this year at football, you've been a credit to your year groups, families and the school as a whole.

However, the football season hasn't completely ended as year 6 children and some year 5's who haven't yet represented the school team this year will get a chance to take part in a specially arranged football friendly festival against Dicken's Heath on Wednesday 29th April at Lode Heath starting at 4:30pm.

Why not come along and lend your support.

  • Happy Puthandu to our Tamil families

    Tue 14 Apr 2026

Happy New Year to our Tamil families.  Currently, at Greswold, we have a number of pupils whose families are from a Tamil background, originating from Southern India or regions of Sri Lanka.

Puthandu or Tamil New Year is celebrated on the first day of the Tamil month Chithirai, typically falling on April 14th. It marks the beginning of the Tamil solar calendar and is a day of new beginnings and joy.

Thank you to Tanvikaa for designing a wonderfully colourful and informative poster to celebrate the occasion.
