Year 5 Learning

 

This week we will be learning:

 

Maths - The focus will be on adding fractions and subtracting fractions.

English - The children will be writing informal letters, pretending to write emails from a space station on Mars).

 

Foundation subjects - half term overview

 

Geography - This half term, the children will be learning about how the water cycle influences geographical features including rivers and those found along the coastline. 

Science - We will be learning about the Earth in space. The children will be learning about the solar system, the way the Earth and Moon orbit the Sun and how this creates a number of natural phenomena.  

Art - The focus is on sketching and using shading to create light or shadow.

Computing - Linked to the space topic, the children will programming Mars rovers and learning about the computer architecture of these devices. They will also be learning about how binary is used to transmit data from between Earth and the rovers on Mars. 

MFL - The children will be learning Spanish throughout Year 5. This half term we will be focusing on giving personal information such as saying how old you are.

PSD - This half term's unit is 'Celebrating differences'. The children will consider how they fit into different groups and consider the impact of excluding people. They will learn about the consequences of bullying, including cyber-bullying, and learn to appreciate the value of happiness.

PE - Indoor PE this half term focuses on working as a team and completing challenges by working together. Outdoor PE will be invasion games (hockey and football).
