  • Explore Learning writing competition

    Wed 10 Apr 2019

Today we were visited by Lauren and Siobhan from Explore Learning who came to launch this year’s writing competition. The theme is ‘a chance to change the world’ and the children have been encouraged to think about ways they can make the world a better place. Your child will be bringing home a leaflet that explains how they can enter the competition. If your child would like to enter, they should complete the writing task at home and return it to school. Happy writing!

  • PTA Easter Egg Competition results

    Tue 09 Apr 2019
PTA and school staff would like to thank all Greswold families who contributed to this year's Easter Egg competition.  The entrees were judged yesterday by the lunchtime cooks who found it eggs-tremely challenging to choose a winner from each class.   As egg-pected, the creations were cracking!  The winners received their prizes at the House Point assembly this morning. The first slide contains a selection of winners' designs.
  • House Point Race

    Tue 09 Apr 2019
Today's House Point assembly highlighted just how close this year's competition has become.  Well done to those children who achieved the most house points this half term in their classes culminating in a tie between St George's and St Andrew's with only one term to go.
  • Athletics Assembly

    Mon 01 Apr 2019
This morning, pupils from year 2 to 6 were treated to an assembly by Zoe, from Specialising in Sport, about indoor and outdoor athletics and its benefits.  It was probably the first time the pupils had ever been allowed to sprint in assembly!  She also mentioned that the current World and European indoor champion at 60m hurdles, Andrew Pozzi from Stratford-upon-Avon, began his career doing Sportshall Athletics at primary school, something for our successful year 5/6 team and all of our children to aspire to.  The children will be bringing home further details about how to get involved in athletics.
  • Walk to School month gets underway

    Wed 27 Mar 2019
Today we were visited by David from Living Streets. In assemblies for Key Stage 1 and 2, David helped the children to become more aware of the reasons for travelling to school using their own energy. With this month being Walk to School Month, we are encouraging our pupils to get to Greswold by walking, scooting, cycling or Park and Stride. Leaving the car behind has lots of health benefits and combats the congestion we can experience outside school.
  • PTA tuck shop

    Fri 22 Mar 2019
As a special treat, Greswold PTA ran a tuck shop for children after school. There was a good selection of sweets available and all the money raised goes back to supporting pupils here. Thanks to the parents who helped to run the stall.
  • Walk to School Month starts next week

    Fri 22 Mar 2019

Monday 25th March marks the start of Greswold's Walk to School Month.  Your child will receive a Stroll n Roll booklet to record how they travelled to school and back home again.  They will have to walk, cycle or scoot to get a tick, with a sticker being awarded once five ticks have been achieved. The sticker is attached to a class chart with the first class reaching the end rewarded with a trophy.

For parents who live too far away to walk, the two Park and Stride venues (St Helen's Church and the Redhouse Public House) will enable families to walk the rest of the way to and from school and therefore still achieve their ticks.  Pupils from families who use a bus service will still achieve a sticker as they will have to walk the rest of the way from the bus stop.

In Unison with the Stroll n Roll initiative, children can also record their mode of transport on Travel Tracker at school with a badge being awarded to those who choose a healthy travel option at least once a week across a four week period.  This initiative, organised by school in partnership with a charity for everyday walking will be further explained and promoted to the children on Wednesday when a representative from Living Streets will visit to take an assembly.

A truly remarkable final result capped another astonishing display by the year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics team who won their School Games Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull County Final against eight other regional winners by a staggering 92 points.

Final result:  1st - Greswold (South Solihull) 380 points, 2nd - Whitmore Primary (Coventry West) 288 points, 3rd - Ernesford Grange Primary (Coventry East) 284 points, 4th - St Nicholas CE Primary (South Warks) 270 points, 5th - St Nicholas CE Primary (Central Warks) 250 points, 6th - Marston Green (North Solihull) 230 points, 7th - St Marie's Primary (East Warks) 178 points, 8th - Milby Primary (North Warks) 140 points, 9th - Warton Nethersole's Primary (North Warks) 140 points.

The children have been a credit to Greswold and its community all the way through the three rounds of competition which began with over 400 schools across three regions entering, a fact which shows just how impressive their performance has been.  Well done children.

  • Basketball league results

    Wed 20 Mar 2019
Congratulations to our two basketball teams who finished 1st and 3rd in the Tuesday basketball league. Excellent attitudes were evident throughout. When the two teams played each other, the result was a draw. Good luck to Team 1 who will now play the winners of the Wensday and Thursday leagues.
  • Primary Maths Challenge

    Fri 15 Mar 2019
Every year, Year 6 pupils enter the Primary Maths Challenge which is a national competition. Over the past few years, I have awarded a couple of certificates to children who have reached the bonus round. Today, 6 certificates were awarded in assembly for children who had reached the bonus round or achieved bronze or silver awards within the bonus round. Well done to our very talented mathematicians.
