Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Last week, Mrs Beddow had the first meeting with the new Language Leaders for this year. The children launched the Language of the Month poster competition for this year. We are proud of the diversity of the many languages that our pupils and their families speak here at Greswold. The Language Leaders are looking forward to looking through all of the poster competition entries and choosing the winners, ready for the first Language of the Month on October 1st!
Thank you to all the parents who joined us for Meet the Teacher meetings over the past two weeks. It was wonderful to welcome everyone and the turn out was really positive.
All year group presentations are now available in year group pages in Community/Year Groups or by clicking on the link below:

The Senior Leadership Team's presentation has been recorded and is also available in the Video Centre in Community or by clicking on the link below. We advise any parent, who wasn't able to attend their respective Meet the Teacher meeting, to please watch the recording so that you're also aware of expectations shared with our parent community. Parents of pupils in EYFS did not have an SLT presentation so it would be good for them to view the recording too.
Thank you
This year’s PTA Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Wednesday 24th September at 7:00pm. We’d love for you to join us to show your support, hear about our exciting plans for the year ahead, and get involved in a range of fundraising and social events.
During the meeting, we’ll be voting in the new committee, and it’s a great opportunity to meet other parents from across the school community.
The meeting will be held in the Infant Hall. Parents wishing to attend (please note, no children at this event) should use the Greswold Greyhounds entrance.
For those unable to attend in person, we will also provide a virtual link, which will be shared closer to the date.
We hope to see you there!
This morning, Mrs Foster met with the new members of this year's School Council, a very important role which helps to give a pupil perspective to everything we do at Greswold.
School Council contains a representative from every class in Y1-6 who were chosen by their classmates.
We look forward to hearing about the wonderful ideas the council has in the coming weeks.
School have received an important letter from West Midlands Police which we will send out to parents this week. The subject of the letter is parking so we ask all parents, respectfully, to read it carefully and adhere to its expectations.
The Solihull Sustainable Team have also put together a flyer detailing the most important points of the letter.
Well done to the following year 6 pupils for being chosen as the new house captains for this academic year. Last week, they had to deliver a speech to the rest of year 6 on the reasons they should be chosen. Well done to the other year 6 pupils who also also took part in the nominations, it was a very tough decision!
St George's - Maitri and Akshera
St Andrew's - Sofia and Aadil
St David's - Anusha and Rayyan
St Patrick's - Devaash and Dhruvi
This week's Picture news in assembly prompted a lot of discussion around what makes buildings special.
One of Sweden's biggest wooden structures, a church in Kiruna, is being moved 5km due to the ground becoming unstable.
Mr Hornsey then talked about other famous structures being moved such as Marble Arch and London Bridge.
One particular type of special building which can't be moved but can sometimes be replaced are football stadia (linking in with Saturday's England match) and this was discussed too, nicely coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the closure of the previous Wembley stadium.
So, for all those football fans out there, can you name 5 football or sports' stadia which have been rebuilt elsewhere? Here's one for starters....Everton, which was discussed in assembly, and whose new stadium has actually been built over a dock on the river Mersey.
Starting Monday 8th September, Sarah Marshall our resident play therapist will be hosting a weekly coffee morning in the main school hall at 8.45am.
The purpose of the coffee morning is to meet with other parents facing similar challenges and learn some new strategies and skills to help.
If you wish to attend, please sign in at the main office and Sarah will welcome you in at 8:45.
One very important element of Greswold, which helps to make our school such a successful setting, is our commitment to promoting healthy and active life styles and providing children with school sport experiences which help to boost their self-esteem.
As a school, we participate in a large number of inter-school sporting events which include football, basketball, athletics, cross-country, rowing, cricket, rounders, rugby, orienteering and netball, amongst others. Just this week, school staff were contemplating which additional events we wanted to provide for the children this year.
Most of the events are organised by SGO's (School Games Organisers) and take place at local venues. There are three types of events:
ENGAGE – Non-competitive festivals created to inspire a targeted group of young people who would benefit most from a positive physical activity experience.
DEVELOP - Develop events are for pupils who enjoy friendly competition but do not want to solely focus on winning and losing. Develop events will have a strong emphasis on the School Games values and will primarily focus on supporting the development of physical, personal, emotion and social health.
COMPETE – Compete events are for pupils who are competitive in nature and enjoy performing and competing against others.
If your child is chosen to represent the school at an event this year, South Solihull Schools' Sports' Partnership, based at Lode Heath School, have shared a set of Solihull Event Expectations which are below. These include competitors (pupils), leaders, teachers & officials and spectators.
When attending events, please could families abide by the expectations as well as demonstrating our own school values at all times. Results and photos of these events will always be published on Latest News to be celebrated.
Thank you
