• Key Stage 1 Playground Redevelopment

  We have been looking at giving our children in Key Stage 1 more space to play on. Mr Gooch has removed the tunnel on the playground as it has become dangerous. He got the ground level and planted grass seed but there was a problem - the birds keep eating the seed. Year 1 came to the rescue and made some super scarecrows that are now frightening the birds away. Well done! We look forward to using this area in a few weeks.

  

• Boys' toilets refurbishment

  After a lot of hard work from Mr Gooch, the boys' toilets near to Y3 and Y5 are ready to use. They have been completely refurbished and look (and smell!) fantastic. The year 3 and 5 School Council reps were invited to see them first and they were very impressed. Thank you to Mr Gooch. Girls' toilets are almost ready too.

  

• Year 2 Football Coaching

  Pupils in Rabbits and Badgers are developing their football skills with coaching from FA Skills. Coach Liam will be with the children for the next few weeks, teaching them important basic tactics as well as ball control. Thanks to Miss Sumner for arranging the visits. Otters will be having coaching later in the term.

  

• The Great British Spring Clean

  Mrs Cooper's Eco Club headed to the local park to give it a bit of a spruce up as part of the Great British Spring Clean 2018. The group of children, armed with litter pickers, dig a great job collecting rubbish that other people had carelessly discarded. By the end of lunch time they had gathered enough litter to fill two bags. A job well done.

  

• Sport Relief 2018

  Today Greswold looked very sporty in aid of the charity Sport Relief. Children and staff dressed in sports kit or as their favourite sporting heroes for a suggested donation of £1. During the week our pupils have also been completing different sporting challenges including races. Greswold Greyhounds also joined in with children walking, jogging, hula hooping and hopping around the hall. Well done! Many thanks for all donations that will be passed onto the charity.

  

• Professor McGinty visits Year 3

  Our favourite time travelling detective, Professor McGinty, dropped into Greswold to tell Year 3 about his adventures in ancient Rome. The children loved hearing the professor's stories with Dr Hoot, his pet owl. There were lots of laughs and a few got to dress up as Romans as well. A highlight was getting to handle real Roman artefacts (or as Professor McGinty called them "stuff").

  

• HRBQ

  Every other year we ask children in Years 2, 4 and 6 questions about themselves as part of the national Health Related Behavior Questionnaire survey. The survey is completed anonymously online and asks children questions that help us plan our PSD lessons to their needs. Thank you to all the classes that took part and to Mrs Woodcock for leading the survey lessons.

  

• Art competition winners

  Many thanks to all the pupils who entered Mrs Scott's portrait competition. The challenge was to draw a picture of Mrs Scott, Mr Hornsey, Mrs Glover and Mrs Jellicoe for a new display board. There were lots of brilliant entries. Well done to the winners whose pictures you can see below.

  

• Potatoes!

  Mrs Cooper's Gardening Club have been getting ready for Spring. Although it's still a bit cold to start planting in the allotment yet, some seed potatoes are now chitting in the corridor where it is warmer. They will be put outside in a few weeks and be used to cook with later in the year.

  

• Year 2 Multi-Skills Competition

  Pupils from Year 2 got to try out a number of different PE skills in a competition organised by South Solihull Schools Sports Partnership. Mr Davis from Lode Heath trained up children from Year 5 who then helped lead the activities including jumping, throwing, running and balancing. The Year 2 pupils enjoyed taking part in the event and gave all the activities their best. Well done! More pictures on the Year 2 page.
