  • INSET Day - it's the staff's turn to learn!

    Fri 14 Feb 2025

As we approach the halfway mark in this academic year, it was an ideal opportunity for all staff to come together and continue their lifelong learning journey, not only for the benefit of the whole school community but their professional wellbeing too.

As well as exploring and reflecting on the feedback from pupils during our recent whole school Pupil Voice meetings, staff were also involved in really important work in relation to equality, diversity and inclusion.

There were also three rounds of workshops for staff to attend, run by a number of staff members themselves.  These included:

Supporting pupils with SEND in Maths

    Parental Partnerships

    Supervision

Meditation and Mindfulness in the classroom

    Community Week

    Welcome to the library

    EDI

    Subject Leadership

    SEND surgery

    Spelling

A thoroughly productive and informative day was had, achieved by utilising the vast array of expertise we already have here at Greswold.

  • National Volunteering Week brings Y10 students to Greswold

    Thu 13 Feb 2025

This week, Greswold has been hosting Year 10 students from Tudor Grange Secondary School and James Brindley Academy (Parkway).

Each student has been working with a different class and the feedback from both the staff and pupils has been very positive.

Thank you to the students for their very polite and professional manner.  You are a credit to your respective schools.

  • Successful Parent Consultations help to finish another enjoyable half term

    Thu 13 Feb 2025

Thank you to all Greswold families who attended this week's Parent Consultations.

It's always lovely to welcome parents into school and for such an important reason too.  The partnership between school and families is always vital in supporting children to achieve their potential and enjoy their primary school journey.

Even though the BookFair had to relocate this year, we still raised over £2,000 which means Greswold will benefit from over £1,000 of new library books, courtesy of the commission obtained through generous parental sales.

  • Year 5 share and celebrate their Home Learning projects

    Thu 13 Feb 2025

As part of our continual effort to work with parents and extend learning beyond school, today saw Year 5 share their homework projects with their peers. It was great to see a range of projects including recipes, presentations, three dimensional models, clothing designs, posters, diary entries, videos and the teachers' favourite, cake!

Year 5 visited each others classrooms this morning to have a look at the projects, ask questions and show appreciation of each others' efforts. This could not have been achieved without the support of our parental community, so thank you to all parents and carers in Year 5 who have supported this work.

  • An extra treat for parents this week at school!

    Wed 12 Feb 2025

Just in time for this week's Parent Consultations, the corridor displays have been updated to showcase the children's learning from this half term.

As you can see below, the children have been hard at work in their learning this term so please take the opportunity to view the fabulous displays, as well as admiring the recent art competition entries judged to be winners and runners-up.

  • The BookFair is coming!

    Mon 10 Feb 2025

This week's Parent Consultations marks the return of our very popular BookFair.  Hopefully, the children will get to view the BookFair before Parent Consultations this week so they can see what titles might interest them.

However, the fair itself will not take place in the library on this occasion but in a classroom further up the long corridor.   There will be signs for parents an families to follow.

Don't forget that the more books purchased at the fair increases the amount of commission the school receives to buy new reading books for our library!

  • St George's and St Patrick's neck and neck at halfway mark!

    Mon 10 Feb 2025

This morning's House Point assemblies helped to sum up the schools' hard work around this half term's value of Success.

Helping others to achieve their targets, maintaining a positive attitude, having a go and breaking challenges down into small steps were all themes explored this term in assemblies and Jigsaw lessons.

Mr Hornsey used the story of Miron Muslic, manager of Plymouth Argyle, who beat Liverpool in the FA Cup this weekend, as an inspiration for looking at what success actually means.

Muslic was a refugee at the age of nine, fleeing war torn Bosnia to travel to a new home.  The children realised that for Muslic, success wasn't beating Liverpool but was the culmination of years of overcoming challenges to get where he is today, thus emphasising small steps and retaining a positive attitude.

The story is not too dissimilar to a number of pupils and their families we currently have here at Greswold.

On other matters, well done to Y4 Nightingales and Y5 Oaks who achieved the best attendance for this half term and a special well done to Y1 Owls who achieved the most improved attendance this half term.

In terms of this year's House Point Leaderboard, both St George's and St Patrick's have scored 137 points so far, followed by St David's and St Andrew's.  However, we are only at the halfway point of the year so still plenty of time for things to change.

  • Greswold celebrates Number Day 2025!

    Mon 10 Feb 2025

Maths subject leaders, Mr Hobday and Miss Mears, helped kick of our NSPCC Maths Day celebrations with a special assembly this morning which highlighted the importance of Maths in our everyday lives.

The children then took part in a variety of Maths related activities throughout the morning, most of which adopted cross-curricular themes, helped to embed the fact that Maths is visible in all areas of our lives.

Well done to pupils, families and staff alike for making a real effort to promote the day with their wonderful Maths related costumes!

  • Any excuse to dress up! Greswold staff embrace Number Day

    Mon 10 Feb 2025

It wasn't just the children who joined in with the fun of Number Day 2025.  As you can see, the staff really threw themselves into the occasion!

Now you can see where the children get their creativity from here at Greswold.  Well done to all the staff for making the day so enjoyable.
