  • Over 100 badges awarded for active travel today!

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

Y6 Maples, Y4 Chaffinches and Nursery lead the way with the most badges gained in January using the Living Streets Travel Tracker.

In total, so far, 103 badges have been given out today for children who have shown they've travelled to school actively at least once a week.  Engagement was only 18% this month which is slightly down on previous months but this should increase when families add their belated results.

However 95% of 2,152 journeys recorded were classed as active which is really positive.

Don't forget, you can still claim your badge for January, simply fill in previous days or weeks on the Travel Tracker which you've missed.  You can still even claim for September, October, November and December if you haven't already!

  • Join in with the football fun as Greswold celebrates National Schools' Football Week!

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

Starting on Monday 5th February, Greswold will be marking national Schools' Football week with a series of activities across the school.

Year 3 and Year 4 pupils will get the opportunity to take part in lunchtime football coaching, courtesy of the Football Development Scheme.

There will also be a football kit design competition for any child who wishes to enter, with the most creative design from each year group being entered into the national competition.  Below are some slides from a presentation which will help the children with their ideas.  We wonder if parents can also answer some of the questions, some of which are quite hard!  Blame Mr Hornsey for that!

There will also be fun picture quizzes situated around the school for the children to take part in.  We hope your children enjoy the week!

  • Compliment from a member of our community

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

Mrs Scott received an email from a member of our school community complimenting some of our eldest children.

'I wanted to let you know that as I walked home this evening down Buryfield Road I witnessed some lovely independent walking home from school. Obviously I don't know who they were but I was especially proud of 3 boys- 2 of whom were on bikes and one on foot. They were clearly having fun but looked out for each other and crossed the busy road with care and support.'

How lovely to receive such positive news!

  • Another '5 star' performance from the boys' school football team

    Fri 02 Feb 2024

After recording their first win of the league season last week, the boys' school football team repeated the impressive feat of scoring 5 times for a second consecutive match, this time against Monkspath at Solihull Moors.

Thank you to Miss Carpenter and Mrs Woodcock who were on coaching duties and a massive well done to the players who are now playing with such confidence and teamwork.  Their 5-0 win has seen their league position improve and fingers crossed that this winning run is repeated in their next match

on Monday 26th February at Old Silhillians.

  • Girls' school football team edged out in tight game

    Wed 31 Jan 2024

On Wednesday, the girls' school football team was back in action, again at Tudor Grange, this time against Shirley Heath.

A much improved team performance saw the team deserve a victory.  However, the ball just wouldn't hit the back of the opposition's net! In the end, Shirley heath scored the decisive winner midway through the second half after a break away move, with the eventual score being 1-0.

Greswold can take heart from a really good performance and use it to spur them on in their next match on the 21st February against Widney School, again at Tudor Grange.  Plenty of time for more practise!

  • The Bookfair returns to school next week, just in time for Parent Consultation evenings!

    Wed 31 Jan 2024

During Parent Consultations next week, parents are very welcome to visit the Bookfair in the school library. The children will get a chance to visit the fair beforehand to view the books on offer, however below is a link to the Scholastic website so that you can also see selection in advance.

Remember, that for every book sold, Greswold receives a percentage back from the publisher to spend on books for our own school library!

  • Greswold's donation being put to great use!

    Mon 29 Jan 2024

Just over a year ago, Greswold collated a collection of old reading and text books that were still in good condition to be shipped over to Africa as part of our work with the charity Books2Africa.  Today, we received notification that our donation is being actively used in the country of Nigeria, accompanied by a photo below.

Currently, school are collating a second collection to again be shipped over to help charitable causes.  Well done to everyone involved.  This type of project really helps Greswold pupils to learn about community outreach and the positive impact that thinking of others can bring.

  • Y6 pupils attend Holocaust Memorial event at Civic Suite

    Fri 26 Jan 2024

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year and is a time to remember the millions of people who died during the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

Greswold were generously invited to attend a service at the Civic Suite in the morning of the 25th Jan with dignitaries including the Mayor, the Chief Executive of Solihull Council and the Lord Lieutenant.  The pupils who attended with Miss Carpenter left a message on behalf of the school in the book of remembrance. The guest speaker at the event was Dr Martin Stern, a holocaust survivor.

In the afternoon, the 3 pupils who attended also got the opportunity to speak to Dr Stern, himself, and got to hear about how things were for him when the war started and how he ended up in a concentration camp.

The children were incredibly respectful, as always, and represented the school impeccably at such an important event.

  • Welcome back to Mr Kailey

    Thu 25 Jan 2024

Year 6 Willows received a visit from former parent, Mr Kailey, who spent some time trialling a new dance programme with them as part of his work with the Arts' Council.  His aim is to gain feedback from the children about the suitability of programme so he can adapt and improve it for future use in schools.

Mr Kailey has visited school many times over the years and was a key contributor to our very successful Community Weeks where he delivered his wonderful Bhangra workshops.  We hope to welcome him back in the future.

  • No shortage of commitment but mixed fortunes for Greswold teams in the football league tonight

    Wed 24 Jan 2024

Tonight's round of football league matches took place at Tudor Grange with both the girls' and boys' school football teams in action.

First up were the girls' team who put up a very battling display against a strong St Alphege team.  Without their usual goalkeeper, the girl's showed great commitment and teamwork but eventually were beaten 2-0.

The game was immediately followed by the boys' match against Langley.  Looking for their first win of the season, the boys' showed really strong teamwork and used communication effectively to produce some free flowing passing football.  This eventually resulted in two goals being scored before half time.  Their energy and confidence continued in the second half with Greswold running out 5-1 winners.

Well done to everyone involved and, as usual, thank you to the families of all Greswold pupils who came to watch and support the teams.

The girls' team's next match is next Wednesday 31st at 4pm against Shirley Heath, again at Tudor Grange, with the boys playing the following day against Monkspath at Solihull Moors at 5pm.
