  • Extra football clubs to help celebrate English Schools' Football Week

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

Y5 and 6 pupils received additional lunchtime football clubs this week, in part to celebrate English Schools' Football Week but also to prepare for next week's football friendly festival against Dicken's Heath at Lode Heath School.  As always, pupils were enthusiastic, committed and displaying the high expectations of school and its values.  Roll on next week's festival!

It is worth noting that school received 3 Nike footballs from the ESFA for participating in the event.

Since this story was posted, the festival had to be postponed due to extenuating circumstances.  However, it will be rearranged for next half term so the children don't lose out.

  • Imagination, creativity and genuine skill on show everywhere at Greswold!

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

There will be an extra treat in store for visiting parents at next week's Parent Consultations, especially as they wander through the corridors of Greswold.  Not only will you be able to see the fabulous writing on display but you'll be amazed by the wonderfully creative and imaginative work done by Year 3 and Year 4!  Based on their topics of Ancient Greece (Y4) and Polar Regions (Y3), the children have produced some wonderful scenes and labyrinths for home learning, just in time to create an exhibition feel for next week's meetings.

However, that's not the only things on show in the long corridor.  KS2 children have been invited to enter an art competition, organised by Miss Summer, Art Subject Leader, with children's entries, in both 2D and 3D, on display for all to enjoy.

  • Over 500 WOW badges already won by Greswold pupils!

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

We're now into our 4th months of using the Living Streets' Travel Tracker for pupils to log their active travel and, so far, over 500 WOW badges have been distributed by the Junior Travel Ambassadors!

Engagement has increased to 26% of the whole school community for the month of January with over 7,500 journeys being logged by pupils and families, with 97% of them deemed active and healthy!

Let's see if we can increase engagement for February to 30%.  Remember, families only need to log one day of active travel a week in order for pupils to win a badge!  Instructions on how to use the Travel Tracker are located in the Parents section of the website under Sustainable Travel.

  • Safety Week at Greswold

    Wed 08 Feb 2023

This week, Greswold's curriculum was further enhanced with the inclusion of several lessons and assemblies relating to the theme of staying safe.  This included safety in unfamiliar places, safety online, safety out and about, safety at home and safety in school.  The children approached each aspect of the week with a great deal of thought, maturity and awareness, with Star Pupil certificates on Friday being awarded to children who made significant contributions to the success of the week.  School also received a visit from Solihull Fire Service on Monday.  The week culminated in a whole school practise of lockdown procedures, something which was done with incredible maturity by all pupils.

  • Enhancing our school's natural environment!

    Wed 08 Feb 2023

After Mrs Mills acquired some free trees from the National Trust, Mr Cooper and Mrs Cooper planted them on the school grounds over the weekend.

4 new trees were planted on the junior field with 2 additional ones in the new Nature Area extension.  In total, two Ornamental Cherry trees and four pear trees were planted.  Hopefully, we can enjoy some homegrown fruit later in the year!

  • Attendance on the up!

    Fri 03 Feb 2023

Last week's attendance was an improvement on the previous week's and saw us going back up to 96% for the whole school. Well done to Owls and Maples who both had an attendance of 99.3%.

  • Tense and exciting finish to the school football season

    Fri 03 Feb 2023

Yesterday evening, the boys' school football team once again impressed to win their 5th league match of the season!  Their resounding 4-1 win against Valley Primary means Greswold are currently top of the South Solihull Large Schools' football league with one game remaining.

Admittedly, there are a few schools who have yet to upload all of their results but considering every school has lost at least one match, it might mean goal difference separates the winners from the runners-up!  The school's in the mix for the title of best large school in South Solihull include Greswold, Dorridge, Shirley Heath and Monkspath.

Greswold's remaining match against Monskspath J&I School, originally postponed because of cold weather last week, will be played soon.  Good luck to everyone involve and well done to the players for their commitment, dedication and sportsmanship.

  • Lots of parental engagement at this week's Y1 and 2 Maths Workshops

    Tue 31 Jan 2023

Greswold welcomed over 70 parents of pupils in years' 1 and 2 this week, eager to find out more about how Greswold's approach to teaching Maths could be con9tnued at home.  Mr Hobday organised a really productive and purposeful workshop which enabled parents to become more familiar with Maths Mastery.  For anyone who wasn't able to attend, the following links contain each year group's presentation slides which will still enable parents to be aware of how Maths is delivered in KS1.

    Mon 30 Jan 2023

Congratulations to four of our year 5 pupils who competed as a team in the prestigious King Edwards School Maths Challenge 2023, an annual event held by the leading independent school for primary schools across the region.

The aim of the team was to get through to the final, which they did with flying covers, achieving 1st place by a considerable margin!  We look forward to hearing about the team's achievements in the final and thank you to Mr Hobday, Maths Subject Leader, for providing the children and the school with such a wonderful opportunity.

  • Holocaust Memorial Day

    Fri 27 Jan 2023

Three pupils from Year 6 accompanied Mrs Scott to the Holocaust Memorial Day Service in the Civic Suite at the Council House in Solihull. The programme for the service was inspiring and reflective. Our pupils showed tremendous maturity and respect throughout.
