  • Greswold reflects...

    Fri 09 Sep 2022

Pupils from Y1-6 joined a special virtual assembly this morning to mark the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. At this time at Greswold, we call on our values to help us, especially belonging, kindness and respect. The children have show great respect today towards the Queen, our new monarch King Charles III and also our school community. We are very proud of them.

  • No time to rest for our new year 6 pupils!

    Thu 08 Sep 2022

Pupils are already settling into life in their new year groups and classes this year and, as always, staff are ensuring the children start the year as actively as possible.  As you can see from the photos, year 6 pupils as well other year groups are already undertaking the 'Daily Mile' or the 'Daily Dash', a successful initiative employed at school for several years now, aiming to maintain an active lifestyle and stimulate the children's minds and brains to help meet the demands of the rest of the day!  Keep it up children, fabulous work!

  • A new academic year spells new site additions to school!

    Thu 08 Sep 2022

The site team have been very busy over the course of the summer.   Mr Hindley has securely and safely covered the drainage trenches around KS1, meaning they still drain rainwater away but without the constant influx of stones onto the playground, thus making the whole area safer.

New interactive 'Activall' boards have been installed on the KS2 playground helping to make lunchtimes even more active and enjoyable for the children.

Finally, the lower school hall floor has been repaired and updated to ensure a fresh look and safer environment for all who use that particular space.

Thank you to everyone involved in improvement works over the summer, helping to ensure Greswold is a safe, stimulating and modern environment to visit and learn in.

  • Greswold and its community at its best!

    Mon 15 Aug 2022

Though the school term has finished, there are still plenty of signs that Greswold is still very much at the heart of our region's community.

The Commonwealth Games was a huge success as we're sure you'll agree, and provided a spectacular platform for which our region could be very proud of itself.  While teachers and pupils bumped into it each other at several of the sporting events, it was also apparent that members of our wider school community were very much involved in the games too.  A parent, Mr Kailey, who for so long now has been a great source of energy and help during several events at school over the years, especially Community Week, was pictured on the official Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022 website, contributing to one of the many citywide community events taking places during the games.  Well done Mr Kailey!

On a visit to Victoria Park in Leamington Spa recently, a staff member noticed a brand new outdoor gym centre for the general public to use, funded by the Rotary Club, the same organisation that school have recently started working in partnership with to help year 6 transition amongst other schemes.

Finally, it has come to our attention through the media that Buryfield Road will soon be a 20mph speed limit zone, something we feel all families will appreciate, especially those who travel to school by walking, cycling or scooting.  For more details, click on the link below for the article:

  • Greswold leading the way in recycling

    Thu 21 Jul 2022

As you may well gather, this time of year in school, there's a great deal of sorting out to do, especially if teachers are moving classrooms.  Here at Greswold though, we ensure that we don't just randomly throw things away.  Every class has a recycling box for paper and card, the staffroom contains recycling for card, plastic, glass and tins and there are a host of other sustainable initiatives that the school has in place.

You may have noticed school has accumulated al lot of second-hand school uniform which it sold at the recent summer fayre or distributed to families.  The uniform that is still left (7 bags!) will be taken, by teachers, to various charity shops around Solihull so not to be wasted.

Felt tip pens are other items which can easily be tossed away with general waste but here at Greswold, we have recycling stations to store used pens which can then be recycled properly.  Look out for one such station in the entrance foyer!

Milk carton tops are currently being saved by all members of our school community.  These will in turn be used to help fund another school defibrillator, a wonderful and useful way to recycle things people might sometimes take for granted!  Again, there is another collection station for these outside the school office.

Finally, any story or non-fiction books which are no longer needed are earmarked for other children across the world.  We fund the postage of used books (£8 per 20kg) to Africa in partnership with Books2Africa charity.  The following link provides information about the charity:

    https://books2africa.org/

However Greswold is always looking for other ways to become even more sustainable and would be happy to hear from members of our school community with ideas and initiatives of their own to help us.

  • Alayna top of the 'Drama' class!

    Mon 18 Jul 2022

Further success in out of school clubs by our pupils include Alayna in year 6 who recently received a special trophy from her performing Arts school, Starstruck.  She'll now get to keep it for a year and have her name inscribed on it.  Well done Alayna, we're all very proud of you.

  • National Geographic helping to develop the reading of year 3 pupils!

    Mon 18 Jul 2022

This year, Greswold have been working in partnership with National Geographic to help develop children's reading in year 3.  Five identified pupils were each given a whole year's free subscription to National Geographic Kids with each child receiving an issue each month.  The school itself received an issue for its library.  Another example of Greswold sourcing expertise to support and enhance our curriculum further!

  • House Trophy winners for 2021-22 revealed!

    Mon 18 Jul 2022

Congratulations to St George's who, for the second consecutive year, have won this academic year's House Trophy.  Although 3 houses were in contention going into the final week of term, it was St George's who pulled away and finished the competition with 262 points.  A special mention should go to St David's for achieving the most house points this half term.  Ava, house captain of St George's received the trophy in assembly this morning.

Sparrows were was rewarded with another attendance certificate, this time the class with the best attendance in the whole school this year (96%).  Chaffinches were 2nd on 95.5% and Elms 3rd on 95.3%.  The average whole school attendance for this year is 94.1% to give some perspective.

  • Brodie shines for Solihull Moors!

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

At Greswold, we always like to hear about our pupils' successes out of school too and one particular child in year 6, who has endured some challenging times over the past couple of years, definitely has something to celebrate and be proud of.

Brodie from Maples in year 6 originally signed to play for Solihull Moors Under 11's for this season and has now signed for Solihull Moors U12's for next season 22-23 where she will continue playing in the position of centre forward.

Each of the girls in the team were awarded a trophy for completing the season and for their excellent contributions. There were 5 additional special trophies and Brodie was recognised as being “Most Improved Player” of the season.

Her family as well as Greswold are so proud of Brodie’s achievements so far and the potential she shows is very exciting. She’s possesses a brilliant attitude and works hard both in training and during the matches. She’s also made new friends and the whole team support one another which is fantastic.

Well done Brodie.  You're a real role model to us all!

  • Wonderful Nursery Sports' marks end to fabulous Sports' Day season at Greswold!

    Thu 14 Jul 2022

This week has seen the pupils in Nursery participate in their Sports' Day.  Not only were there numerous examples of sportsmanship and encouragement being shown by the pupils but really impressive running, scooting, hurdling and balancing skills too......and not just from the pupils!  The parents had a race as well!  Thank you to all the pupils, staff and parents for making the two events  very memorable occasions.
