Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
The last couple of weeks at Greswold have marked the return of a few of our favourite end of term events. Families of Reception and Nursery pupils were all treated to wonderful performances from their children in Reception's outdoor Christmas play first followed by Nursery's. Both were absolutely fantastic and enabled everyone who participated and attended to get into the spirit of the occasion.
This week has featured each year having a Christmas party where children can dress up in their wonderful party clothes and enjoy games and food with their year group and class. This also coincided with a super Christmas lunch on Wednesday which all the children took part in and enjoyed. Again, festive jumpers were out in force on that occasion too!
Saturday 4th December marked the return of our beloved PTA Christmas Fayre and what a memorable occasion it was! Thank you to everyone who came and made the whole event not only enjoyable but safe as well. Your generosity was unparalleled and we're very pleased to announce a magnificent £5,600 profit. The proceeds will go back into school to provide curriculum and learning enhancements for every single Greswold pupil to benefit from.
It couldn't have been achieved without the outstanding endeavours of our wonderful PTA members who spent weeks preparing, the Friday evening setting up and hours afterwards cleaning up ready for the first working day of a new school week on Monday. In short, it was an occasion which really showcased what the Greswold community is all about. Thank you again.
The children of Greswold have been very busy creating stories and poems associated with Christmas and winter to form a whole school advent calendar. You may have seen it on the upper school hall at our recent Christmas Fayre. It's been wonderful to unveil a new door each day in assembly and discover the wonderful work underneath. The brainchild of this lovely idea is Miss Nock, our English Subject Leader. Below is a selection of door designs along with the story, poem or piece of writing underneath.
St Helen's Church on St Helen's Road is holding a Christmas Carol Service on Sunday 19th December. The service will be held outside on the car park so the organisers have encouraged vehicle users to park on surrounding roads instead. St Helen's Church is a venue which Greswold already have strong partnerships with. Previously, Greswold's annual Harvest Festival
service was held at the church itself while the car park is one of the two locations offered to parents as a Park & Stride venue. It would be lovely to show our support to a church that has done so much for Greswold Primary School in the past and present. Everyone is welcome.
You may have noticed some new festive editions outside the main office entrance recently. Mr Cooper, our resident sculpture/carpenter/outdoor expert has rustled up these wonderful creations just in time for our Christmas Fayre. Thank you Mr Cooper, they're amazing!
It was wonderful to receive so many impressively creative entries for our PTA Christmas decoration competition this week. It has been such a difficult task to choose only one winner from each class. The children will find out who the winners are in this Friday's certificate assembly. Thank you so much for your participation and we look forward to using them to decorate the two school Christmas trees in preparation for this Saturday's PTA Christmas Fayre.
Winter is definitely with us now as the weather has turned colder and brought snow. This morning the sky was looking particularly spectacular over the Snowy field as you can see in these pictures.
Not one, not two but three different football teams represented Greswold at West Warwickshire Sports' Club on Thursday evening as part of the South Solihull School's football leagues. First up was the Y5/6 'A' team who played Olton Primary in round 3 of the Large Schools' league. Greswold managed to win 3-0.
Up next was the Y5/6 Girls' team who played their first match of the new league season beating Tidbury Green 3-0. The 'A' Team then played their second match of the evening and round 4 of their league losing to a strong Shirley Heath team whilst the girls' team played another match, this time a friendly, against Sharman's Cross. Greswold won 2-1.
Finally, the Y5/6 'B' team played their first game of the season against Dicken's Heath in a friendly. A very close fought game ended in a 2-1 defeat for Greswold. All in all, a wonderful night of football for the 25 boys and girls who played for the various Greswold teams and lots of memories to take away.
Yesterday, following a short online assembly, children from Y1-6 assembled outside for a minute of silence to mark Remembrance Day. Our younger children listened to a piece of music indoors.
Tuesday COL club run by Mr and Mrs Cooper created a beautiful pot of crosses for Remembrance which is currently on display in our main reception area.
Thank you to our Y6 volunteers who have accepted donations for poppies after school this week. Greswold will announce how much money was raised for the Royal British Legion shortly.
Diya and Josh from Y6 will accompany Mrs Scott to lay a wreath on behalf of everyone at Greswold at the war memorial in Solihull on Sunday.
Thursday 11th marked the return of the South Solihull Schools' Football League with Greswold being placed in the large schools' league due to our size. West Warwickshire Sports' Club was the venue for the first round of matches with Greswold earning a very respectable total of 6 points out of a possible 10 from their first two matches. A loss to Dorridge was preceded by a convincing 3-0 win over Sharman's Cross. The players represented the school exceptionally well and we look forward to next week when, not only do the next round of matches take place for the 'A' team, but the school 'B' team will play a friendly against Dicken's Heath and the Girls' team begin their league campaign against Tidbury Green.
