• Innovative, creative and informative curriculum work to celebrate

  A wonderfully innovative and creative piece of work emerged from year 6 this week which really needed to be celebrated.  As you can see below, a map of Europe designed by Seb in Cedars using Lego completed at home was brought in and shared with classmates after being inspired by his recent Geography topic.  Well done Seb. 

   

  Every classroom and the school hall now contains a map of the World which helps the children to see the connections between what they're learning and it's locality on our planet.  The Geography curriculum display board is another example of this lovely and purposeful idea.  On the subject of corridor display boards, why not take a few moments to view some other subject curriculum boards from around school, especially considering families haven't been able to see the inside of school for quite some time now.  There's always a lot going on at Greswold!!!

  Parents may have noticed a fabulous new climbing structure has appeared on the Early Years' outdoor area this week and the whole school community should be thanked as a result.  It has been school's intention to install a structure to help develop the gross motor skills of both the Nursery and Reception children for some time now and, as a result of the wonderful fundraising work of the Greswold PTA, it has now arrived!  Thank you to everyone who has had a helping hand in making this happen.  The children absolutely adore it! 

  

• Marie Curie fundraising success

  Clair from Marie Curie Solihull visited school on Wednesday and was presented with a cheque for £313.55, an amount raised by school staff through a Christmas jumper donation campaign.  The idea was suggested and led by year 3 pupil Kyla-Rae who wanted to raise money for the nurses and doctors at the hospice as a way of saying thank you.  Well done Kyla-Rae, we're all very proud of you and thankful for your efforts.  

  

• The Stone Age comes to Greswold!

  Last week, year 6 children were involved in a very successful Stone Age experience.  Many thanks to the support given by parents who helped make the day so exciting and realistic.  The children's costumes were amazing! 

  

• Green Level Modeshift STARS accreditation

  Greswold is pleased to announce they've been awarded the Green Level Modeshift STARS accreditation, a national award scheme which offers support and rewards to schools for taking steps to promote safer, greener, healthier travel.  The Latest News and Sustainable Travel pages on our website help to demonstrate our commitment to this very important aspect of life at a very large Primary School.  Our next aim to achieve the Silver and Gold awards and, with the help of Greswold families, this is definitely attainable.

  

• Another exciting round of school football!

  Thursday 3rd February saw another exciting round of school football matches involving Greswold teams.  Although the girls' team's league match against Berkswell was cancelled and forfeited by the opposition, the 'A' team played their fifth league game of the season and the 'B' team made an appearance too against a very strong year 5 Widney team. 

   

  Both matches were extremely gripping for all spectators, especially the Greswold families who again attended in high numbers and offered their usual vocal support! 

   

  Crossbars were clattered on numerous occasions, magnificent saves were made by both Greswold goalkeepers, near misses were in abundance and the sportsmanship and values demonstrated by all players was again evident throughout.  Even though the boys in the 'B' team were disheartened by their 3-1 defeat, it didn't stop them from giving a belting three cheers to the well deserving opposition of Widney School.

   

  The 'A' team came away with an admirable 0-0 draw against Balsall Common with last ditch tackles a plenty, tireless running throughout and the chance to nick the win in the final seconds but for a match saving deflection from the opposition defender.  Well done Greswold, your reputation of trying your best, respecting the opposition and representing the school superbly was again on show tonight. 

  

• Children's Mental Health Week 2022

• Happy Chinese New Year 2022

  Greswold would like to wish all of our families a happy Chinese New Year for 2022.  This year marks the change from the Year of the Ox to the Year of the Tiger. It is also know as the Lunar New Year and in some cultures it is called the Spring Festival.  Wishing you all a year of prosperity and good health. 

  

• National Storytelling Week - Mr Hornsey needs your help!

  This morning's whole school assembly explored several themes, messages and morals contained within the story of Zog by Julia Donaldson.  As an introduction to National Storytelling week, Mr Hornsey discussed this entertaining children's tale paying particular attention to elements of the story which highlighted the need to have enthusiasm when learning and putting effort into learning in order to be successful, along with building on our strengths, coping with adversity, respecting and valuing others and helping others to achieve their goals.  

   

  He then set the children a challenge relating to the important message of helping others to achieve goals and in this case a collective goal.  Mr Hornsey has started writing a version of the fairy tale Cinderella in the form of a narrative poem and can't remember how the story ends.  Can you help him retell the rest of the story starting from the beginning or from where his poem is up to at the moment?  He will then include as many ideas as possible to create a whole school version.

• Installation of Speed Indicator Devices on Buryfield Road

  Over the course of the last few months, the wider school community will have started to notice a number of changes taking place directly outside of school.  These changes, to ensure Greswold families and the local community remain safe, have included additional disabled parking spaces, vehicle parking areas being relocated away from the school frontage, Zig Zag areas being increased in length and now the installation of Speed Indicator Devices.   

   

  As detailed in this academic year's Greswold Travel Plan, school made contact with the Highways Agency to suggest further safety proposals with speed indicators being a priority, so it's very pleasing to see that two have been installed.  As well as the device directly outside school, another has be located further along Buryfield Road closer to the Warwick Road. 

   

  Rest assured that Greswold will continue to explore all avenues in ensuring pupils and their families remain safe whilst travelling to and from school.  Detail of other Greswold proposals and actions can be found in the Travel Plan located in Key Information in  About Us.
