Pupil travel survey results make interesting reading
Thu 09 Oct 2025Last week, Greswold submitted a 'Hands Up' Travel Survey to the Solihull Sustainable Travel Team. This is a survey where children vote for how they usually travel to and from school and how they would like to travel to and from school as well. This was done in all classes from Reception to Year 6.
Admittedly, some of the data may not be completely accurate due to the youngest children being new to school routines. With this in mind, during the upcoming Parent Consultation evenings, we will repeat part of the survey for parents to take part in, helping to validate the data.
The Solihull Sustainable Travel Team then use the data to lobby for additional funding to be allocated to the promotion of active travel in schools around Solihull, a really worthwhile initiative which Greswold fully supports.

Interestingly, over 200 children wanted to ride their bikes. Although school couldn't accommodate over 200 bikes, we do still have plenty of bike stands and, conveniently, next week is national Cycle to School Week!

It's Cycle to School Week next week!
Tue 07 Oct 2025Next week marks National Cycle to School Week.
At Greswold, we have a number of bike stands to accommodate the possible increase of bikes next week, a set by the KS2 pedestrian entrance on the outside of the PTA shed and another set on the wall by the library just past the car park. The scooter pods could also be used as storage for smaller bikes.

Just out! Greswold's football league fixtures for this academic year!
Tue 07 Oct 2025This academic year's football fixtures have been released with both teams representing school having to play 6 matches each.
The girls' team will be competing against 27 other schools divided into 4 leagues. Their league season will include matches against Dicken's Heath, Eversfield, Knowle, Monkspath, Sharman's Cross and Valley as part of League 3.
30 schools are participating in the Boys' (Open) league this year with Greswold placed in League 3 against other large schools including Valley, Langley, Tidbury Green, Monkspath, Balsall Common and Haslucks Green.
The season starts on Thursday 6th November at Solihull Moors where the girls' football team will begin their league campaign with a fixture against Monkspath School at 5:30pm.
The boys' team is part of the Open league which means girls can represent the team too. Their first fixture is on Thursday 20th November, again at Solihull Moors, against Tidbury Green.
The 4 teams with the best records at the end of the season will play-off in a finals' round so fingers crossed and good luck to everyone involved.
Other venues include Solihull School and Old Silhillians. Why not come along and lend your support.

Mid-Autumn Festival event for families

The Mid-Autumn festival, also know as the Moon festival or the Mooncake Festival is a harvest festival celebrated in Hong Kong.

A welcome visit from West Midlands Police
Mon 06 Oct 2025On Friday afternoon, officers from West Midlands Police visited school to assist the senior leadership team and school governors with promoting the school values in relation to parking and vehcile use around school.
This was in response to a number of unpleasant incidents in recent days which eminate from inappropriate vehicle use and parking.
A number of parents showed their appreciation at the steps taken by school which were repeated this morning at drop-off time.
On Wednesday, Mr Hornsey and the school governors will be meeting a representative from Solihull Highways department to discuss ways of improving the current situation around school and its surrounding area.

Yellow is the theme for World Smile Day!
Fri 03 Oct 2025On the first Friday in October every year, people celebrate World Smile Day.
It's a great chance to think about what makes you smile, and maybe draw some smiley faces to bring your friends some cheer. The day comes from the artist behind the iconic yellow smiley face, who decided we needed a day to celebrate smiles.
At Greswold, staff incorporated the colour yellow into their profressional attire for the day and considering the dreary weather today, World Smile Day couldn't have come at a better time!

Y6 pupil excels at county dance festival!
Thu 02 Oct 2025It'a always a pleasure to share the fantastic exploits of our pupils outside of the school gates and what better way to kick off this year's celebrations by communciating the remarkable efforts of Eleanor in year 6.
Over the last two weekends, Eleanor has competed in solos, duets and group dances in ballet, contemporary, modern, lyrical and acrobatic dance at the autumn festival of the Associated Board of Dance, West Midlands.
She placed in every dance entered and was very proud of her results with 4 gold medals, 5 silver medals, 3 bronze medals and 2 x 4th place.
Her parents have pointed out that her efforts really typified Eleanor's commitment to demonstrating Greswold's BRICKS values outside of school, especially in "Belonging" to her dance team, and "Success" within the challenging competition.
Well done Eleanor, you are a role model and inspiration to everyone at Greswold. We're very proud of you!

October's Language of the Month is Japanese
Wed 01 Oct 2025The first language of the month has arrived for this academic year and it's Japanese! Language of the Month is used to promote the wonderful diversity we have amongst our pupil population in relation to what first language they speak.
Mrs Beddow and the language ambassadors help decide which language to focus on each month and design the posters which are then displayed in every classroom and communal area.
Teachers will encourage children to answer the register in the focused language of the month and promote that language in other ways, through their day-to-day routines and curriculum delivery.
Our pupil and parent population here at Greswold is so unique that we always look for ways to celebrate and showcase our community.

Greswold celebrates our indispensable support staff on National Teaching Assistants Day
Tue 30 Sep 2025Friday marked this year's National Teaching Assistants Day, an opportunity to show appreciation to our dedicated team of over 40 teaching and learning support assistants.
There are over 244,000 TA's working in schools across the UK and 96% of Headteachers firmly believe TA's add value to their schools.
At Greswold, we are so lucky to have support staff, most of which have dual roles which impact the wider school community, including Play Leaders, Lunchtime Supervisors, office staff, Learning Support Assistants, key workers at Greyhounds, Advanced Teaching Assistants, Learning Mentors and, of course, Teaching Assistants.
Without them, Greswold would definitely not be the Greswold we are today!
