Y6 continue their lifelong cycling training!
Mon 17 Jun 2024After passing Level 2 in Year 5, a number of Year 6 children had the opportunity to take part in some Level 3 bike training in preparation for managing busier roads and obstacles.
They learned how to manage multi lane roundabouts and cycle in queuing traffic in particular. Although it was a hot afternoon for both groups, they all came back very excited by their new skills and we hope they will get to use them in the future - maybe even on their journeys to their new secondary schools.

Greswold enjoying National Picnic Week!
Mon 17 Jun 2024This week is National Picnic Week so it is a perfect opportunity to show how children get the chance to eat their lunches outside on picnic blankets. The children love being able to do this and, as you can see, it really promotes community and socialising too.

Busy, busy, busy on a Monday at Greswold!
Mon 17 Jun 2024Today is the sort of day which typifies life here at Greswold for the pupils. There's always so much going on to learn and enjoy!
First up this morning was the launch of this term's Writing Event, a themed week of lessons around a specific topic or current affair, which highlights our continued promotion of writing. This week's theme is World Music Day. Please see dedicated Latest News story for more details.
Soon after, year 4 pupils left to take part in their Chance 2 Shine Cricket competition against other local schools. This event at West Warwickshire Sports' Club is the culmination of dedicated PE sessions where representatives of Warwickshire CCC have visited school to work with the pupils over a number of weeks. Fingers crossed for some positive results later!
And finally, while all this was going on, year 5 have started their Bikeability sessions, promoting our commitment to lifelong learning and keeping the children safe. Today's session is school based so that the children can demonstrate enough confidence to continue learning on the roads around school from tomorrow. Good luck to all the pupils.

It's National Picnic Week next week! Let us know your favourite picnic spots!
Fri 14 Jun 2024It's National Picnic Week next week (17th - 25th June), something as a school we're always keen to promote. Below is some information and useful websites which may help you to decide where your next family picnic might be, weather permitting of course!
As always, the picnic blankets will be out at lunchtime next week for children to eat their lunch on, to relax and to chat with their friends. Look out for some follow-up photos!
After asking some of the staff where their favourite places to picnic are, here's what they've shared:
Mr Hornsey loves taking his family to St Nicholas Park in Warwick as, not only is it picturesque and spacious but there's so much for children to do. He's also a fan of Sheldon Country Park where there's a farm to visit, completely free of charge, along with the chance for his children to stroll up to the other end of the park to watch the planes take-off and land at Birmingham International Airport.
Mrs Woodcock is very fond of picnicking at Hatton Locks on the A41 on the way to Warwick, another very good choice. Watching the day by by as canal boats pass through the numerous locks can be a very relaxing and interesting activity for families.
Mrs Lowry is always keen on visiting Kingsbury Water Park with its massive outdoor area, adventure playground, lovely walks, bike rides and miniature railway.
Mrs Rowe offered a number of possible picnic venues which she regularly frequents with her family including Knowle Park, Dorridge Park, Blythe valley Park and Kingsbury Water Park. The following link has information about local parks in Solihull:

Brueton Park in Solihull is a favourite of Mrs Farrell and her family. Not only is it very accessible from Solihull town centre but it contains a nature reserve and playgrounds for the children.
Alternatively, Mr and Mrs Cooper simply take a picnic with them whenever they go walking and pick their own idyllic spot when they see it. For information about Solihull walks, click on the following link:

Thank you to our parent community for making Open Afternoon so special
Tue 11 Jun 2024We wanted to thank our parent community for making Open Afternoon on Friday so special. It was so inspiring to watch so many families come together to share and enjoy their children's school work.
Nearly every nook and cranny, both inside and outside of school, needed to be used for the 364 families who attended to meet with their children, but it was most definitely worth it. Thank you to all of our families for taking time out of their busy schedules to make it such a special occasion for the children and we hope you also enjoyed the experience of spending some time in school.

Greswold pupils shine at 'Our Voices Heard' event at Solihull Council House
Mon 10 Jun 2024A number of our children had a brilliant time at the 'Our Voices Heard' event at Solihull Council House today.
They had the opportunity to share what they like about school & the community as well as how it could be improved. They showed both enthusiasm and compassion. Holly, in particular, spoke about support needed for the homeless and talked about the police / ambulance & fire services as well as the need for outdoor spaces & upgrades to some parks in the local area. All the pupils spoke very highly of Greswold and have shown our values effortlessly.
They also had a free ice-cream and medal to say thanks!

Year 4 girls take the pitch!
Mon 10 Jun 2024With a few weeks of the school term to go, we've decided to open up girls' lunchtime football club to year 4. Not only does this help the club to run to capacity and be cost effective, but it gives the girls a perfect taster of what to expect next year. In terms of representing the school, players need to be in year 5 and 6 so hopefully this experience will motivate the girls to continue in September too!

A wonderful Nursery visit to Attwell Farm!
Thu 06 Jun 2024Nursery had a wonderful day at Attwell Farm yesterday. It was a great opportunity to consolidate all of the children's recent learning about farms. The children were so excited to meet all of the different animals, such as goats, donkeys, chickens and rabbits. We also met and held insects too!
In the afternoon, the children practised their gross motor skills on the adventure playground and by using the small tractors. It was a brilliant day and the staff were so proud of the children.

Year 2 excel at Performance Poetry!
Thu 06 Jun 2024This week, year 2 have been learning how to perform poetry. Not only did they attempt to recite poems from memory but they also devised actions to go with them and refined how they use expression to engage an audience.
This culminated in each child performing a poem in a small group for the rest of their class. Mr Hornsey dropped in on each class and was incredibly impressed by their attempts. Well done children, your performances were thoroughly entertaining.

A history lesson to remember for Y5 Sycamores!
Thu 06 Jun 2024Today in Sycamores, the children were introduced to their new history topic about the Vikings. They began with a very challenging true or false activity where they had to recall their previous history knowledge to decide whether the statements about the Viking were accurate or not.
The children then took on the role of Anglo-Saxon spies who attempted to interrogate a Viking shipbuilder (Mrs Howell) in order to find out more about how longboats were designed in a way to make raiding so easy.
The knowledge and application of it, by children was incredibly impressive while their questioning was of such high quality that as Anglo-Saxons, they're now much better equipped to defend themselves from Viking raiding parties!
