  • Greswold family generosity helps to fund even more library books for school!

    Tue 07 Nov 2023

The success of last term's Book Fair during Parent Consultation evenings has meant the children's reading at Greswold will benefit even more!

Over £2,000 was spent by Greswold families on the two evenings meaning the commission raised equates to £1,433.37 for school to purchase even more reading books for our wonderful library.

Thank you so much for your generosity and for promoting reading amongst your families and Greswold pupils.  Your positive attitude towards reading means all pupils will benefit in the near future!

  • The Midland's Air Ambulance charity visit school, helping the children to see and learn life saving skills

    Tue 07 Nov 2023

This week at Greswold, we have been delighted to welcome the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity to work with our Year 5 and 6 children to teach them the vital life skill of CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation).

Across the two days, the children learnt about the work of the Midlands Air Ambulance including statistics on how many 'missions' they attend, as well as the level of fundraising they require to continue operating. The children also learnt how to deal with a catastrophic bleed using a bleeds kit or everyday items they could use if a kit is not nearby.

Children in Year 5 as well as other KS2 children at lunchtime also had the chance to visit the 'pod', a mock up air ambulance helicopter to see the conditions in which critical care doctors, paramedics and pilots work to save people's lives.

Thank you to school staff for organising such an enjoyable learning experience, another example of how Greswold strives to enhance our curriculum offer with added purpose and context.

  • Our Language of the Month initiative, helping to celebrate Greswold's diversity

    Mon 06 Nov 2023

Greswold's commitment to developing the language skills of our pupils as well as celebrating the school's wonderful diversity is being promoted through our initiative called Language of the Month.

Languages promoted so far this academic year have been French, Urdu and now, Bengali.  However this year, the children are really getting involved and sharing their expertise by helping to design the posters (displayed across school) and generating phrases which are also displayed in key areas.

As a school, we have over 30 different first languages used by pupils and this initiative helps to demonstrate how wonderfully talented and unique our children and families really are!

  • Left over scooters are looking for their owners!

    Mon 06 Nov 2023

As well as being a fun and active club, it will also help school to select pupils to represent the boys' and girls' school football teams whose season starts this week!

    Good luck to everyone involved.

  • Exciting changes taking place during half term!

    Wed 01 Nov 2023

School may be closed for the half term holiday but there's a hive of activity both inside and outside of school!

As well as the upper school hall being redecorated, the replacement for the old KS2 trim trail is currently being installed.  It's taking over the week to complete the work but the results will definitely be exciting for all pupils and staff alike!

  • Our Year 6 pupils' proving once again that they really can change the world!

    Thu 26 Oct 2023

Over the last half term, Year 6 have been focussing on the topic of the Amazon Rainforest. Through Geography they have been learning about how people live and use the rainforest, through History we have been looking at how deforestation has shaped the rainforest and how living in the rainforest  has changed over time. Through English we have developed our descriptive story writing and this week, we have used our learning to write persuasive speeches that we want to send to COP28. It was inspiring to listen to the children deliver their speeches with such passion and enthusiasm, showcasing their learning from the past 8 weeks.

A handful of children gave a presentation of their speeches to Mrs Scott and Mr Hornsey who were both considerably impressed both by the quality of powerful and descriptive language used and by how they passionately they presented their speeches.

  • Forest School Fun

    Tue 24 Oct 2023

The heavy rain last week certainly did not dampen the spirits of the children who attended our forest school. They made the most of the flooded areas while staying safe, of course.
