Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
A huge thank you to the marvellous Greswold PTA and all of the staff, pupils and families who attended Friday's PTA Social evening; it really was a lovely way of bringing our community together.
From refreshments, BBQ food and face painting to the wonderful circus skills, archery and all the other activities to take part in, everyone contributed in making it a memorable event for the Greswold family.
Staff received a lot of positive feedback from families and we look forward to repeating the event in September, as a prelude to next year's impressive array of PTA events.
Year 3 pupils were given the opportunity to provide feedback on a very special story that was read to them yesterday. One of our wonderful volunteers, who regularly reads with year 3 pupils on a 1:1 basis during the week, read the children a story written by her about her own guide dog called Buzz.
Year 3 teachers were blown away by the incredibly thoughtful and kind messages the children responded with Every child was extremely complimentary and understood how important it is to have a guide dog to help children and adults who are visually impaired.
Well done children and a very special thank you to Mrs Manning for not only working with the children in her own time but for providing such a wonderful opportunity for the children to meet an actual children's author too!
On the subject of volunteers, Greswold are always on the look out for volunteers to help with reading at school so if you have some spare time and don't mind us carrying out a DBS check, share your interest with your child's class teacher or email the school office.
Today's Borough Sports' competition, an outdoor athletics event at Norman Green Track at Tudor Grange Sports' Centre, attracted over 20 schools this year, with Greswold being grouped with 7 other large schools.
Each competitor had to participate in a throwing event (Javelin or Shot Putt), jumping event (Standing Triple Jump or running Long Jump) and a running event (75m sprint or 600m) with 8 other pupils making up the final event of the 300m relay.
Despite a heavy 30 minute downpour, the Greswold team, consisting of 12 Y6 boys and 12 Y6 girls, competed admirably against some very tough opposition.
These were some of the stand out Greswold performances during the day:
Silver medal in Boys' Long Jump
Gold medal in Boys' Shot Putt
Bronze medal in Boys' Long Jump
Bronze medal in Boys' 600m
Gold medal in Boys' Standing Long Jump
Gold medal in Girls' 75m sprint
Silver medal in Boys' 4x75m relay
Bronze medal in Girls' 4x75m relay
Greswold took 3rd place in the final standings, the school's best performance in the event for over ten years. Final positions as follows:
1st - Solihull School
2nd - Dorridge
3rd - Greswold
4th - Monkspath
5th - Sharman's Cross
6th - Shirley Heath
7th - Balsall Common
8th - Olton Primary
Special thanks to Miss Bragg and Mrs Mills for accompanying the children as well as marshalling an event. A wonderful day out for everyone!
Next week all classes will be completing a series of challenges centred around “Future Transport”. The challenges will take a day to complete and depending on the age of the children, activities may include researching and identifying problems that existing transport may experience in the future, looking at how to be eco-friendly when creating their transport and then pitching and marketing the finished product.
We are looking forward to seeing some great designs and hope the children have an exciting challenge day.

A huge congratulations to the Y6 Rounders team, who took part in a tournament last night with 20 other schools from Solihull at Lode Heath Secondary School.
In the first round, they won all their games with absolute ease!
They were faced with Oak Cottage in the semi-final, where they won 3 and a half to 2 and a half and sailed through to the final. In the final, the opponent was Solihull School, who unfortunately did beat us, but only just! They were the toughest competition the team had come up against by far.
Our Greswold team played incredibly well throughout and showed all of Greswold’s values in supporting each other, staying positive and working as an exceptional team. Mrs Foster couldn't have been more proud of them and she is ecstatic that we came home with silver medals.
Thank you for all of your hard work in training sessions at lunch and giving up an evening last night to compete.
Well done to everyone involved
As we approach a very busy time for the Greswold PTA, this is a chance to celebrate the numerous curriculum enhancements that their fundraising has helped to purchase.
Ranging from sporting equipment to help our sports' teams excel at inter-school competitions, to the vital IT resources such as Ipads and the hall sound systems needed every minute of the day, their impact is evident everywhere you look!
Upcoming events such as the Father's Day Gift Shop, PTA Movie Nights, the PTA Social and the PTA Summer Fayre are just a handful of reasons why the pupils at Greswold are extremely lucky to have such a selfless committee and members.
But please remember, anyone can get involved with the PTA, whether that's helping on stalls at major events, supervising children at Movie Nights or being part of the team that organises these fabulous opportunities, everyone can make a difference.
So why not pop down to the PTA Social evening next Friday 23rd June and get a feel for the fabulous work the members of the PTA do whilst enjoying the community spirit that the PTA inspires!
Please take some time to have a look below at the endless items that the PTA has purchased for school in recent years.
Wow!
We are so proud of the children and their families who have created these fantastic exhibits for the 'Together in Solihull' project - thank you! The boxes will be displayed in The Core Library as part of Solihull Borough's celebrations to showcase the diversity we have in our borough, as part of Refugee Week 2023. We hope you will be able to visit this wonderful exhibition! If you can't don't worry, we hope we will be able to showcase the boxes at Greswold with a display later in the term!
Everyone at Greswold Primary would like to thank our whole school community for their patience , understanding and efforts in working in partnership with school and taking the feelings of our pupils on board to make some really successful changes to school life.
As our Hometime Harmony campaign draws to a close, staff are really appreciative of the changes that parents, in particular, have made to their hometime routines, which have culminated in safer and happier Greswold children at the end of the day.
However, we have decided to continue promoting two of our aims. 'Keeping to the paths is cool as we love our beautiful school' is still very relevant, especially considering the planting and gardening every Greswold child has taken part in recently to celebrate the coronation of our new king. We want to ensure that these wonderful additions to our school site are protected and maintained throughout next term.
Also, 'Please put away your phone, this is a chat and smile zone' is being retained to continue promoting a sense of community on the playground at the end of the day. Seeing our parent community taking the time to acknowledge and chat with other parents, staff and children is what makes our school such a hub of the community and a unique place to visit. We would like to continue this aim.
We also want to acknowledge our wonderfully diverse community further so thank you to the pupils and parents who have offered translations of the two slogans we are keeping. Below, you'll see the Urdu translation and we've also received Polish, Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Chinese and Arabic versions too. These will be used to advertise the two remaining slogans for the rest of the academic year.
Again, a wonderful demonstration of how our school community comes together for the common good!
As a prelude to the value focus of Curiosity for next half term, Mr Hornsey set all the children in KS1 and KS2 a challenge.
Inventing something is a perfect example of how curiosity can be positively used, with the inventors of Iphone and the internet then discussed.
Mr Hornsey then showed the children a number of different everyday items and asked the children to find out how they are all linked?
Look at the inventions on the slide below. What do they all have in common?
Having high expectations of yourself was the name of the game at today's House Point assembly.
With only one half term to go this academic year, Mr Hornsey spoke about the importance of everyone maintaining high expectations of themselves and each other to ensure we do the very best we can and achieve our potentials.
We hard from Lizzie from year 3 who competed in the Knowle Fun Run at the weekend and Ezra in Year 5 who contributed a short story to a competition run by Chelsea Football Club and ended up in the top 50! This means his story will now be printed in a published book.
Sam from Year 6 spoke to use about his upcoming involvement in a national U12 tennis tournament called the Edgbaston Junior Classic. The year 6 boys' football team all received certificates for competing admirably in the South Solihull Large Schools' league competition while the impressive Sportshall Athletics team were awarded a trophy for their efforts in winning the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire County Finals.
Owls, Cedars and Bumblebees were also awarded trophies and badges for attaining the best engagement during Walk to School Week and Oaks and Owls were given certificates for the best attendance for the half term.
St Patrick's are still ahead in the House Point Competition but only just from St David's. Roll on next term when the value of Curiosity will be the focus.
