  • Greswold 'blown' away by another entertaining musical performance!

    Wed 12 Jul 2023

KS2 children were treated to yet another musical extravaganza on Tuesday when year 4 performed a brass concert to the rest of the school.  Year 4 have all been learning a brass instrument this year as part of our Wider Opportunities curriculum and the concert was the culmination of all their hard work.

Well done to all the pupils for their performance, you were amazing!

  • Sustainable Travel - Greswold rising to the challenge!

    Mon 10 Jul 2023

Greswold's determination to raise awareness of the benefits of travelling actively to travel to school will never diminish, and this year, we've made great strides in our quest.

Walk to School Week, the Walking Bus, Bikeability, the Living Streets Travel Tracker, the input from the Solihull Susatinable Travel team and the increased involvement of Junior Travel Ambassadors have all helped to engineer vital change in the choices made by our whole school community.  Admittedly, there's still a long way to go!

As always, we will endeavour to continue spreading the message of how to keep our children and community safe as well as endorsing a healthier way to travel to school.  The quest goes on! Here's to another successful year next year.

  • KS2 enjoy a very competitive Y6 House Sports' afternoon

    Mon 10 Jul 2023

As is tradition, KS2 pupils spent Thursday afternoon being entertained by year 6 pupils who were competing in their annual House Sports' competition.  Football and Rounders were the two sports on offer with all pupils representing their houses in at least one event.  The expectant crowd were both entertained and gripped by the action, with Greswold's values being clearly demonstrated by all pupils throughout.

Well done to St Andrew's who won the football competition and to St George's for winning the Rounders.  Points gained from the afternoon will go towards the whole school House Challenge leaderboard, with the winner for 2022-23 being announced on the 24th July.

  • Violinists put on a show for Greswold

    Mon 10 Jul 2023

KS2 pupils along with some parents were treated to a wonderful performance by the children in Y4, 5 and 6 who are currently learning to play the violin at school.  The children performed a whole host of pieces of music and were magnificent in front of such an avid audience.  Thank you to Miss Plumber, their teacher and to the pupils who treated their audience to an engaging concert.

  • A polite reminder to protect our new Y5 cyclists by NOT dropping off on double yellow lines!

    Sat 08 Jul 2023

A few weeks ago, the vast majority of our Y5 pupils successfully completed their L1 and L2 Bikeability courses, meaning they are now allowed to cycle on roads safely.  As a result, several of our Y5 pupils, along with Y6 pupils (some of whom have completed their L3 accreditation) are cycling to school more often which is wonderful and sustainable.

However, there is an increasing amount of vehicles who are dropping off pupils outside of school on the double yellow lines.  This endangers pedestrians and cyclists especially as they have to veer out of the way into the middle of the road.

Please refrain from dropping off on double yellow lines or zig zag lines directly outside the school on Buryfield Road please.  It would appear to be convenient however please show awareness of other vehicles who are parking in the correct places, cyclists and pedestrians.

The photographs were taken by a conscientious parent who raised these concerns.

  • Greswold welcomes our new Peace Pole...courtesy of our School Council and the Rotary Club

    Tue 04 Jul 2023

This morning marked the planting of Greswold's new Peace Pole, a joint venture between school and the Solihull Rotary Club.  Greswold became the first school in Solihull to have received such a symbolic gesture, something which conveys the message of peace and good will.  Each message has been written in a different language, with the languages being selected by members of our School Council who nominated the 8 most spoken languages in school.

Mrs Scott officially unveiled the Peace Pole yesterday along with Phil Godfrey from the Solihull Rotary Club.  Thank you to everyone involved in this wonderful project.

  • Skills Builder Challenge Day 2023

    Sun 02 Jul 2023

This year's Skills Builder Challenge Day was focused on future transport.  Thank you to members of our parent community who offered to come in and talk to various classes about transport in our everyday lives.

The children gained a great deal from their experiences of the day with the photograph below demonstrating how children from Y3 Sparrows used essential skills to design a future mode of transport.  They then practised their pitches in English the following day to try to persuade Mrs Groves to make an investment, Dragon's Den style!

Skills Builder is a strategy for schools, devised by a global group of businesses, education institutions and impact organisations, to help teach essential skills. Greswold adopted the strategy about five years ago and has expertly integrated it into our whole school curriculum offer.

  • Year 4 have a 'Terrific Time' on Tudor Day!

    Thu 29 Jun 2023

Year 4 had a fanastic time learning more about the Tudors today.  We re-enacted the Battle of Bosworth, dug deep for archaeological treasures, looked at and tried on amazing artefacts, fired at targets in archery, discovered facts about the Tudor Economy and got to know more about all the Tudor Kings and Queens.  Well done, Year 4 and we hope you enjoyed yourselves!

  • Y5 Greswold Maths Team crowned champions of KES competition!

    Thu 29 Jun 2023

Wonderful news from yesterday.  Our year 5 Maths team who again entered this year's King Edward's School Maths competition, an annual invitation to schools across Birmingham and Solihull, and made it to the final, ran out eventual winners for the second year in a row!

What a wonderful accomplishment and a clear indication of how wonderfully well the children achieve in Maths across the Greswold community.  Well done children and than you to Mr Hobday for supporting the children.

  • West Midlands Police visit school to offer welcome support to Y6 with their transition to secondary

    Mon 26 Jun 2023

Y6 were very lucky this morning to meet with PC Birch from the Youth Intervention Team. He delivered a presentation to the children about transition to secondary, the importance of their uniform, taking care on social media and respect. He also talked about the 'right to say no' and the importance of this, discussing the potential consequence of actions.

PC Birch will be supporting their transition to their respective secondary schools within Solihull so it has been helpful and insightful for them to meet a friendly face ready for September!
