Greswold finish 3rd at Borough Sports'
Mon 23 Jun 2025It's been another momentous year for athletics here at Greswold. After impressive performances at the Cross Country event in October and Sportshall Athletics Area Final (2nd place) in March, Greswold were at it again at today's Borough Sports' at Tudor Grange track.
Borough Sports' is an outdoor athletics event which brings together all the primary schools from South Solihull. Each of the chosen 24 pupils (12 boys and 12 girls) have to do a 75m sprint or a 600m run, a Standing Triple Jump or a traditional Long Jump and a soft javelin or shot put throw. Four additional pupils then take part in boys and girls baton relays.
Our notable successes included:
Gold (Esme) and Silver (Heidi) in the girls' 75m sprint
Gold (Heidi) and Bronze (Gabrille) in the girls' Standing Triple Jump
Bronze (Esme) in the girls' Long Jump
Bronze (Paola) in the girls' Javelin
Silver (Esme, Heidi, Nikita and Zahra) in the girls' baton relay
Bronze (James, Billy, James, Isaac) in the boys' baton relay
Gold (Isaac) in the boys' Standing Triple Jump
Gold (Billy) in the boys' Long Jump
Overall, Greswold finished the day in a very respectful 3rd place behind Solihull School and Dorridge. Well done to the all the pupils who represented school so well and special thanks to Mrs Foster and Mrs Bagnall for attending the event.
Large Schools' Final results:
(1st) Dorridge - 405 points
(2nd) Solihull School - 376
(3rd) Greswold - 314
(4th) Balsall Common - 312
(5th) Sharman's Cross - 244
(6th) Monkspath - 162
(7th) Shirley Heath - 158
(8th) Olton Primary - 129
St James' won the small school competition and Knowle won the medium schools' competition.

Y5 excel in Bikeability this week
Fri 20 Jun 2025This week, our Year 5 children have been working with the Bikeability team from Solihull Council on their Level 1 and 2 Bikeability training. They started on Monday by completing Level 1 at school before going on the road for the rest of the week. The children have acted as fantastic ambassadors for Greswold and were able to showcase our BRICKS values, particularly curiosity and independence as they applied the learning from the instructors to become more proficient cyclists.
We are really proud of them all and look forward to seeing who will be completing Level 3 in Year 6.

A day of discovery for Y2 pupils!
Fri 20 Jun 2025Year 2 had an exciting educational visit to Brandon Marsh recently, where the children explored nature and discovered the fascinating world of minibeasts.
They enjoyed searching for tiny creatures like beetles, worms, and spiders in their natural habitats and went pond dipping where they found water boatman, dragonfly larvae and even water snails.
The day was filled with fun, hands-on activities that helped the children learn how to care for wildlife and protect animal habitats. From building hedgehog shelters to creating bird seed balls for birds to eat, everyone played a part in supporting the environment. It was a wonderful adventure that sparked curiosity and a love for nature in every child.

Overcoming fears at Condover Hall!
Fri 20 Jun 2025During the Year 6 residential to Condover Hall, the children tried new things, overcame personal challenges and showed resilience throughout. Whilst some children were a little hesitant to begin with, with encouragement from staff, they gave it a go and succeeded - what an achievement!
Although they got a little wet on the Thursday, it didn't dampen any spirits - they still managed to make smores at the campfire!
The children were a credit to our school throughout the visit - well done Year 6. Thank you also to the staff who gave up their free time to make the residential such a success.

Y3 become Romans for the day at Lunt Fort!
Fri 20 Jun 2025Year 3 had a fantastic time visiting Lunt Fort last week where they were able to become Roman soldiers for the day: practising battle drills; learning about the life of Roman soldiers; and getting their hands on a range of real Roman artefacts.
They all demonstrated our values extremely well and showed copious amounts of this half term's value of curiosity.

Nursery visit Attwell Farm to help reinforce their learning
Fri 20 Jun 2025Nursery pupils enjoyed a truly wonderful day at Attwell farm for their annual educational visit. As part of their ongoing learning about farm animals, the visit provided a valuable opportunity to reinforce and extend the children’s understanding in a real-world setting.
The children were really excited to see a wide variety of animals and thoroughly enjoyed learning interesting facts about each one. In addition to exploring the animals, they also engaged in a range of other enjoyable activities. We are very grateful to our fantastic parent volunteers for their help and support on the day. A real team effort!

Despite the heat, Greswold still flourish at Y6 Rounders!
Fri 20 Jun 2025Due to the hot weather, this year's School Games Y6 Rounders competition was scaled back with a reduced number of teams attending Lode Heath school.
Nevertheless, our Y6 team, who have been practising since the start of term, performed admirably. Not being deterred by a first game loss to St Augustine's. Greswold followed it up with a win against Widney and an agonising half a rounder loss to Berkswell. However, Greswold finished with a big finale and a win in their last game against Yew Tree courtesy of James who bludgeoned a hit which nearly ended up in the tennis courts!
Overall, Greswold finished 3rd and played amazingly well, demonstrating fantastic sportsmanship throughout! Well done team!

Year 4 attend the Chance to Shine competition
Wed 18 Jun 2025Recently, all Y4 pupils attended the Chance to Sine Cricket festival at Hampton Cricket Club. The children took part in competitive games and showed sporting values throughout. Each class was split into two teams; we then played against other schools and against other year four classes. These games were very competitive and very close in terms of scores.
The children showed how much they'd learnt from the cricket coaching they'd received throughout the term and very much enjoyed their time competing against other schools.

National Grid give year 6 pupils immersive experience
Mon 16 Jun 2025All Year 6 pupils took part in a very special workshop with the STEM team from National Grid today.
The workshop was an immersive learning session all about how important it is to save energy and the impact on our world if we don't. Thank you to our Science subject leads, Mrs Foster and Miss Pearson for arranging such a memorable and pertinent experience.
