  • Spring is here!

    Thu 20 Mar 2025

It's the 20th March, the sun is out, daffodils are aplenty and we have some lambs in school day!  It must be Spring!

The first day of spring welcomed a small flock of lambs to our Forest School area today.  The lambs were courtesy of one of Mr Cooper's contacts, Jo, from her farm in Barston.  Different groups of pupils received the chance to spend time with them throughout the morning and lunchtime, a lovely way to see in a new season.

  • Spring unveils secret ways to promote active travel!

    Thu 20 Mar 2025

Spring is finally here and the glorious weather this morning prompted Mr Hornsey to stretch his legs and actively travel to school!

It was also a chance to check out some of the shortcuts, alleys and cut throughs around the local area which might make it easier for some families to leave their vehicles at home, on occasion, over the next few months.

There are a number of pedestrian alleys and short cuts which can very much shorten active journey times, one being the passage from Heaton Road to Links Drive, completely cutting out the need to use the Warwick Road. It's a lovely, scenic journey too as it creeps around the perimeter of Olton golf course.

So why not check out the map below for other alleys and short cuts and try ditching that car just once a week maybe during the fair weather months?

  • Lego Workshops help Y1 to develop their designing skills!

    Thu 20 Mar 2025

This week, for the first time, year 1 pupils have had the opportunity of taking part in Lego Workshops as part of their cross-curricular learning this half term.

Create-Build-Learn is an educational provider who work with children to develop their designing skills using the medium of Lego.

The focus of each session was on castle building as this is the theme of History lessons this half term.  The sessions have really helped the children with their design and technology learning which will be supplemented further when the children actually visit a real life castle, Warwick Castle, in a few weeks.

Thank you to Miss Smith, D&T subject leader, for organising such a memorable experience, another example of how the staff here at Greswold strive to inter-connect learning and use different contexts and immersive experiences to help children embed knowledge, skills and understanding long term.

  • Good news story from one of our Greswold families!

    Thu 20 Mar 2025

Greswold has recently received some marvellous news about a pupil from our school and her ex-pupil brother.  Sophia in year 3, along with her brother Noah who left Greswold last year, are getting the opportunity to showcase their musical talents on one of the biggest stages of all....the Birmingham Symphony Hall!

It's all part of a specially designed music festival for inclusive communities and music groups.  Their hard work and commitment has even been recognised by news outlets including ITV who have already covered the story.  This can be accessed through the link below.

Well done Sophia and Noah, it's always so wonderful to find out about the amazing achievements of our pupil community, especially away from school too!

  • Y3 Sparrows showcase their drumming skills!

    Tue 18 Mar 2025

This morning, parents of Y3 Sparrows' pupils were treated to a fantastic display of drumming from the class.

The children have been learning percussion skills through the use of Djembe drums and their specialist teacher, Miss Kormann from Solihull Music Service, put together a lovely performance for our visiting parents.

The standard of percussion was so impressive with several parents commenting on how good the children were.

    Well done to everyone involved.

  • Happy Holi

    Sat 15 Mar 2025

Reception enjoyed learning about Holi, the Hindu Spring Festival of Colour.

We didn't have any powder to throw, but we did have a very colourful afternoon splattering paint and designing our own Rangoli patterns.

We would like to wish all our families celebrating, a Happy Holi.

  • Learning from each other - school to school!

    Wed 12 Mar 2025

Yesterday's staff meeting involved all Greswold class teachers collaborating with other class teachers from three different local primary schools.  Greswold hosted Oak Cottage, Burman Infants and Bentley Heath for a special writing moderation session.

These sorts of sessions are vital in ensuring staff confidence and accuracy when assessing the quality and standard of a child's writing ability.

  • World Book Day at Greswold!

    Mon 10 Mar 2025

To end Community Week, Greswold pupils celebrated World Book Day by coming to school in their pyjamas, ready to cosy up with a good book.

In order to appreciate reading within our school community, one of the activities that children took part in was a class buddy book swap where all pupils had the opportunity to read their favourite books with children from other classes.

Also, throughout the day at different intervals, Mrs Scott rang the bell three times which indicated all children had to stop what they were doing and spend 5 minutes enjoying their book.

There was so much excitement and enthusiasm around school - another very successful World Book Day!

  • Science projects celebrated in assembly

    Mon 10 Mar 2025

All children from Years' 1-6 were invited to take part in a Science Project competition over February half term. We were hugely impressed by the number of children who brought projects in; they all showed creativity, curiosity and dedication as well as enthusiasm for scientific discovery and problem solving.

Winners were chosen from every class, who all received a special book prize in this week's assembly, when we launched British Science Week.

A further 6 children were chosen, 1 per year group, who went to Tudor Grange Academy on March 5th to represent Greswold at a Science Fair, amongst other children from local schools.  These children got to present their projects to members of National Grid, who judged each one on various categories. Each child was absolutely incredible, and showed all of Greswold's values.

Arjun in year 6 won overall 'best scientific content' for his project based on melting ice and Saathvik in Year 4 won the LKS2 category with his project about environmentally friendly adaptations.
