  • Community Week celebrates connections!

    Mon 10 Mar 2025

Last week's Community Week was full to the brim of exciting opportunities!

From learning about engineering to trying out different types of dancing; from planting seeds and showing that we care about our environment to singing songs and listening to stories in different languages, we were very lucky to have some fantastic and generous volunteers who joined us in school to show us all a wealth of amazing things that we can do. A heartful thank you to everyone who made the connections created last week possible.

The fabulous children showed all of our values throughout the week and as always, we were very proud of them. What a wonderful way to celebrate our community here at Greswold!

  • Bookfair grand total unveiled!

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

Mrs Mason, librarian, would like to confirm that due to the generosity of our families during parent Consultation Week, Greswold has earnt a remarkable £1326 worth of commission from BookFair sales.  This means, school has that amount of money now to spend on new books for the library.

It's perfect timing as the library is currently undergoing a bit of a facelift with new furniture, funded by our very own PTA, due to be installed very soon!

  • World Book Day helps to launch Greswold's new 'Buddy' system

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

As part of the World Book day festivities, staff introduced a new 'Buddy' system in school, a way of children mixing more often with other children from different year groups.  Today, sharing books with buddies was the way to introduce the system to the children.

From now on, Y6 and Y3 and Reception will always be buddies as will Y5 and Y2 along with Y4 and Y1.

For the remainder of this year, the buddy classes will be:

    Cedars and Robins and Dragonflies

    Maples and Sparrows and Bumblebees

    Willows and Wrens and Ladybirds

    Oaks and Rabbits

    Elms and Otters

    Sycamores and Badgers

    Skylarks and Owls

    Chaffinches and Squirrels

    Nightingales and Hedgehogs

Th system will be used for a variety of occasions but today's perfect opportunity couldn't be missed!

  • Important Travel Tracker update! Please read.

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

This week, parents received an app message reminding them to complete the Living Streets Travel Tracker for February if they wanted their children to be awarded a WOW badge.

However, Mr Hornsey was then informed by a couple of parents that some previous weeks can't be accessed anymore.  Indeed, the Travel Tracker now states you can't log journeys for days more than two weeks in the past.

This is something that has been introduced recently without the knowledge of the school.  Therefore, Mr Hornsey has contacted Living Streets to gain clarification and, unfortunately, this is true.

From now on, pupils and families are only able to log journeys two weeks in the past.

Therefore, Mr Hornsey will speak with all the children next week and, if they let him know, he will be able to manually award a badge for February even if pupils or their parents can't access previous days anymore.

Thank you for your understanding.  School will begin systematically reminding parents to log journeys twice a month from now on.  However, older pupils are able to log their own journeys using an Ipad in their classrooms.

  • Boys' school football team complete their league fixtures for this season

    Fri 07 Mar 2025

On Thursday, at Solihull Moors, the boys' school football team completed their league season fixtures with matches against Langley and Monkspath.

Two very good performances by the team weren't necessarily reflected in the final score lines with the opposition schools winning 2-0 and 1-0.

It was a shame for the boys as they deserved better from each game but that's football for you!  However, the boys who have represented the school this year have been an absolute pleasure to manage and have been a credit to their peers, their families and the whole school community.

Thank you to the parents who have supported this year too.

  • Parent / Carer Forum includes a tour of the school!

    Thu 06 Mar 2025

Monday's Parent / Carer Forum included an extensive tour of the inside of the whole school.  This was to enable parents to become more aware about how Greswold operates on a daily basis as well as seeing the journey of pupils from Nursery all the way up to year 6, e.g. 3 years old to 11.

Parents were able to visit The Nest, Year 5 Sycamores, The Cabin, Year 6 Willows, Year 4 Skylarks, Year 3 Wrens, The Den, the Blue Room, the library, Year 2 Rabbits, Year 1 Hedgehogs, the Studio, the Nursery and Reception Dragonflies.

We hope the tour was enlightening and we look forward to our next Parent / Carer Forum which will also include a short tour of our school but this time focusing on the outside and outdoor learning areas.

  • High praise for Greswold from local secondary school!

    Thu 06 Mar 2025

Recently, two teachers from Lode Heath Secondary School spent a day each with year 6 as part of their Early Career Teacher programme.  They spent their time here with Year 6 Willows and this week, one of them kindly sent a thank you message to Mrs Foster, the class teacher,

'Once again, thank you so much for letting me into your Year 6 classroom before half term. The children were beyond exceptional, from their manners to their hard work, I was thoroughly impressed with all of them, especially the two students who gave me an excellent tour of the school. During the tour, it was very obvious that they were proud and confident members of Greswold.  I really hope I get to teach many of them next year!'

We do pride ourselves as being a school that is very much a hub of the community, forging links with other schools and organisations and helping people to develop their experiences.  However, to receive a lovely response like this is wonderful to hear and perfectly demonstrates what we already know about our exceptional Greswold pupils.

  • Greswold achieves 2nd place in South Solihull Area Finals for Sportshall Athletics

    Wed 05 Mar 2025

This morning, 28 year 5 and year 6 pupils took part in the Level 2 School Games Sportshall Athletics competition. Today's event was the South Solihull Area Final which followed the qualifying event which took place in January.

The event brings together all the leading schools from South Solihull with only the best school going through to the Level 3 County Finals.

An enthralling competition culminated in Greswold winning several of the events but just missing out on that all important top spot.  However, their 2nd place finish out of the 8 schools who made it to the final, typified the commitment, athleticism and teamwork all the pupils have shown over the course of the competition.

Thank you to the parents who came along to offer their support and well done to the children.  You're all a credit to your classes, your families and the whole school community.

    Final standings:

    1st - Knowle (330 points)

    2nd - Greswold (294pts)

    3rd - Balsall Common (260pts)

    4th - Dorridge - (230 pts)

    5th - Oak Cottage (196 pts)

    6th - Sharman's Cross (160 pts)

    7th - St Patrick's (138pts)

    8th - Bentley Heath (136 pts)
